Approaching Tauramanui - but well outside town theres a mention of them going "pretty fast" which gives the illusion that they are.! However (on the main road beside them) open_road traffic is 'allowed" to do 100 kph & there's a road vehicle slowly passing the loco cab. Thus I'd estimate train speed as 95 - 98 kph (that's about 60 Mph & not very fast at all; and then (through Tauramanui itself) the town speed limits are usually around 50 kph for road vehicles, a small SUV was slightly slower.

PLUS: the OCB RM Railcars OFTEN exceeded the limit of their own speedometers, with a needle "bent" at the max speed (70 MPH) yet the railcar were both "felt & heard" to increase speed above that point.! (Even sometimes exceeding 75 mph - an "excessive" speed - which was easily confirmed simply by timing the railcars "travel_time" between the OCB's trackside "mile pegs") Oh and yes: As a District Engineering Staff (NZR) member - I often rode REAR END CAB of railcars and on ENGINES & GUARDSVANS.!

    IS IT WOW..?
When I was employed on the NZR in the 1970's - FREIGHT TRAINS on the OCB were not "allowed" over the speed limit for class C branch lines..
However, on MANY SEPARATE OCCASSIONS (usually 3 or 4 times a month)
DUNEDIN NZR FITTERS needed to go out to a DJ locomotive.. stationary somewhere on the Ranfurly, Wedderburn or Oturehua straights because the DJ's OVERSPEED RELAY WAS TRIPPED (driver had deliberately RUN loco well above the running timetable posted speed) So? What's Ur problem?

Me encantan los trenes de vía estrecha como este de 1067 mm y los de 1000 mm como el ferrocarril General Belgrano de Argentina.

Nice video - shame about the spelling. The town is of course "Taumarunui"
