Ride with Kiwi Rail Part 3

Riding in a express freight train with my good friend Steve at the controls. Heading on our return journey North again through the King Country with a whopping 850 Meters in length of train and 1,500 Tonne in weight. Two Electric Locomotives each had around 4,000HP to pull this load home.

Ah awesome, you lucky sod. & a view of the concrete sleeper / footplate rubber pads too yeah, that's to stop any "high speed / crushing impact" of any flat spotted loco or carriage/wagon wheel passing over these fastenings, from impact crushing the concrete sleeper underneath, (just 1 or 2 mm of "give" in pads allows use of concrete sleepers otherwise the old wooden sleepers would still be the only form of sleeper available, Oh & great "site" as the closest MAIN LINE rail pad has NO SPRING CLIP)
