No not military, he is a west coast BC pilot. slinging long lines, in out of tight spots day in/out for forestry work, fire fighting etc. I had complete trust in him, had to do hover enter and exit a few times too...not just toe ins.
I was a wildland firefighter and a linecutter and met some awesome pilots. Toe-ins always made me nervous. Man I miss the flights to and from work. Perfect end to a long day. 😁 🤘❤🇨🇦
Wow. Back in my younger days, I used to hover like that, and in a C model which was slightly underpowered than this D. Great finesse in handling the offset of the crewmen getting in, while holding positions. Of course, the trees block any wind, but still superbly skillful and, in getting out. Well done.
Much respect for mountain chopper pilots. Flew in the flat lands. Came out to fight fire in BC one year and almost crapped my drawers during my first toe-in on a wooded mountainside. A slope-side pad in 300 foot timber looks like a postage stamp compared to a pad in the flats in 100 foot timber. Lots of verticalling to get in and out for sure.
Excellent hovering job and keeping it stable in one position while loading passengers on the skids with shifting balances. This pilot was exceptionally smooth hovering in ground effect.
Fantastic pilot! Compensating for the weight when people were boarding even though he was had his skids in. You would still get a weight transfer when the guy got into the rear passenger compartment. Great flying & excellent video, Thanks for sharing it.!
Nice ending. I was hoping not to see any tragedy.. thank God i didn’t. Sometimes I see cool videos then all of a sudden you see a head flying by .Thanks for this cool video. Very talented and skilled pilot. The helicopter barely moved.
Superb machine and piloting. I miss my 500 more than any woman in my life. Repatriated it back to the US form BC Canada.Such fond memories Thanks for the cool video, holding back tears for real.
Great to hear all the positive comments. For the people who insist on giving their negative, armchair opinions on whether it is safe or not, keep your dumb-ass comments to yourself - obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. Regardless of the country of origin, once you get past the licencing, flight instruction jobs, tour pilot jobs and the like, you get into stuff like this. This is what we do all day long - this is our job and we do it professionally. Great video.
These are the guys you want to take chopper lessons from...Clown to Franklin chopper pilot was one that I always admired. He was flyin' all the Hollywood stunt stuff back then.
First floor ladies lingerie and tree tops. 👍 The pilot has skillz! I grew up in NZ at the time of the Deer -Wars- Hunting so was very used to seeing these sorts of skills displayed every day and those guys were nuts but great skills. The only thing I regret about this video is the image resolution and there is nothing you could have done at the time. Nice job having the SA to video it. *Thank You* Jordan.
Our unit flys Astars but used to fly 500's. I missed out on flying them but the guys said they were solid in a hover in ground effect. Clearly, they are and that took great skill and concentration. If I tried that in an Astar it would have been much more of a challenge. That was awesome! I would love to try something like that.
to thebullet44739. as I am the one who recorded this video, I have no idea who you are, and I am a friend of the pilot, and you are not him. On another note, thanks to all who have looked at and had positive things to say about the video.
haha well actually, the 2 guys only got flipped down to the main road, and had a 20 min truck ride, then an hour long boat ride....we waited for his return, then had a 15 min ride all the way home....
nice flying the guys getting on did a excellent job they did not pile on and throw the helicopter of balance, did this many a time myself when sismograph drilling with hughes 500d and c helicopters in forest and moutain areas
WowSmooth👍⛾I remember a MD500 pilot saying that the best way to set one down was to plop it down & let the struts absorb the impact. I don't think he would be a good candidate for this type of operation🖖😎☮
we had a pilot. called him cowboy Bob. Wore dirty overalls and his cap on backwards. chewed tobacco so ya stuck to everything inside the chopper. wouldn't even bother to land he'd just hover. in the hills of Hinton Alberta. ah. the memories. great to be young and bullet proof. And we were a little insane when break up came. no fat on us though. 3-D seismic. gotta love it
How could you not trust someones skill and do this work. Everything rides on the pilot so you get to see the special lady and the precious lady at the end of "EACH" workday.
One of the finest aircraft ever made. 👍
Best helicopter ever made.

I had complete trust in him, had to do hover enter and exit a few times too...not just toe ins.
Wow, now that's a real confined area landing. Hats off to the pilot.
Awesome skill. I flew OH-6's in the military, you could land them anywhere there was enough room for the rotor disk...even in my back yard once!

Woehaaa that is SICK!!! Super flying....!!
Fantastic pilot! Compensating for the weight when people were boarding even though he was had his skids in. You would still get a weight transfer when the guy got into the rear passenger compartment. Great flying & excellent video, Thanks for sharing it.!
Pretty insane skills. I mean many could try but few will leave. I read the little Hughes had pretty amazing stability too

Oh man, I feel that too. My 500D also back to the US after many years of flying in South Africa. Good memories forever.

Awesome. Such nice tight flying. BC, helicopter paradise.
Incredible helicopter pilot.
Smooooth!
One hell of a pilot. Stable hover even while loading people..
Mad skills!!
Amazing pilot !!
Skills!!!
how these pilots judge their rotor clearance amazes me
Awesome....hats off to the pilot
These are the guys you want to take chopper lessons from...Clown to Franklin chopper pilot was one that I always admired. He was flyin' all the Hollywood stunt stuff back then.
Dude, thats some mad piloting skill!
A Master at his craft. Excellent!
amazing control now that guy is a pilot!
Nice piece of flying ...well done...
First floor ladies lingerie and tree tops. 👍 The pilot has skillz!

This looks like one of those old Mikes hard lemonade commercials. They are probably on their way to fish for Great White Sharks in a John Boat. COOL!!
Kudos to the pilot but the guys climbing on did a kick as job as well. Pays to know what your doing... They all played a part...
Excellent flying, must be the F version to lift vertically with a load.
Awesome !! That heli did not move
!!
Lucky the ground moved around so it made it look like the pilot kept a perfect hover.
That ain't nothing but amazing!
Great 🚁‼️ & the Pilot got real skills! 👍🏼
That's insane. What a pilot....!
Pilot got skills!
Good grief. At least give the passenger in the back a few seconds to put on his seat belt.
haha well actually, the 2 guys only got flipped down to the main road, and had a 20 min truck ride, then an hour long boat ride....we waited for his return, then had a 15 min ride all the way home....

Pure skills!
Great PILOT !!!!
You have to be one the best in business to be flying in holes like that ! That is to dangerous !
thats yrs of experience flying that lil bird
thats a man with a lot of stick time ,,, load change tight spot , all in all a very skilful pilot.
Dude your pilot is a bad ass!!!
This is oddly musical. Someone should sample the sounds for some sort of industrial-thrash thing.

Top level pilot. Nice job
It makes me think of "power is nothing without control" (the title of an award winning advertisement with Carl Lewis, dated 1994).
Damn, havent seen flying like that since the New Zealand Deer harvest!
One hell of a pilot - almost impercetible movement when they climbed aboard.
BRAVO!
That is just bad ass!!!
Exelent pilot bro! thx for sharing
Kick ass pilot there.
Wow...nice
Balls of steel. Mah gawd that gave me a stiffy.
thats a good pilot!!!
How could you not trust someones skill and do this work. Everything rides on the pilot so you get to see the special lady and the precious lady at the end of "EACH" workday.
Good Pilot
Un bon pilote est... un vieux pilote !
Wow.. dealing with weight transfer while hovering like that..
....and the poor camera man, unable to pay the extraction fee, is still down there to this day.
Bad ass pilot mode active!! :D
Vry gd !!! :-)))
wowww...scary!!!
skids are steady cause he got the fron skids on the rock
Brav-f'ing-O!
awesome!!!!
That's one hell of an expensive commute.
How big of an area do you need to land a heli between trees?
FUCK YEA!! I fly heli but not like that!
Круто!
uaooooothat was best
Hell of a pilot - excellent control. Ex military????
good pilot really
We have 7 star hotel. This is a 7 star pilot !
Any idea what company is operating this 500
Hi Jordan, thanks for the response.
Poor camera man. He is like "aww - don't leave me alone"
Who picks up the camera guy???
He flipped them down the hill to a truck, came back for us (2) and we flew back to town.
thanks
