    I feel very sorry for anyone who misses out on the joy of watching and understanding and enjoying Australian Rules football. It's a game I would never want to play, but it's the best sport to watch. I have personally taken part in competitive tennis, basketball, and swimming, and loved doing all of them. But Australian Rules is much more enjoyable to watch than all three of those. The only rugby I watch is State of Origin and Rugby World Cup, both of which I enjoy, but don't come close to watching an AFL game.

    They are both called "football" because they all came from the same sports.... When they were trying to set the rules for "football" in England the majority agreed on what is the basic rules of Soccer. However Rugby (it's a place) wanted to keep to their rules so they made a "union" of other teams. Some however, mostly in the north, wanted slightly different rules again and hence broke off to form a different "League". The AFL broke off from Irish football, which again was a variation of soccer. Oh and League > AF > Union.

    • @austopinion4388
      @austopinion4388 Před 10 lety +4

      None of that's true. Rugby union was invented in 1845 by a bunch of school kids, at a school called Rugby. Rugby league was invented in 1895 after Rugby union players were unhappy that they weren't getting played, so they broke away and formed a separate league, and over time they changed the rules. Irish football is not a variation of Soccer. And Australian rules football is older than Irish football, and has no origins from it, or any other sport, and there is no evidence of that.

      All oval ball codes including league, AFL & American football owe their origins to Rugby Union. AFL even used Gilbert Union balls in the early days. The Marngrook yarn is a crock. Newspapers also report football being played in Sydney in the late 1700's but the form or rules is not known. Harrison, the guy that codified the AFL rules, attended Rugby school.

Also the so called mark that the Australian football claims it invented from the mangrook game was been used on early rugby before the game of Aussie rules existed ! and even made its way to early association football, but in time was eliminated in soccer . *NSW trumpeting their haloed ignorance of Rugby League being superior to Australian Rules. Complete State-conditioned bias. The utter and accepted homophobic slurs were also a worldwide norm. People in the West say they've become more tolerant and understanding, but tokenistic words aren't really a way to salve the millennia of State sanctioned execution, imprisonment, ostracism and blatant hatred. I still remember the days (when this show aired) when AIDS was dubbed 'The Gay Plague'. Australia is renowned for its 'casual racism/sexism/homophobia/xenophobia etcetera*
    *Sorry for that little rant, but it just went off on that tangent*
    *The world perceives Australians as laid back and accepting, which is true, if you're a white, straight, man who likes fighting, cars, sports and women*
