Miggy on the left v Villa played well.
Able to use his left foot 😛
Played on the left and able to hit first time balls into the danger area because the ball was immediately on his best foot. With the pace we have available up top this will create so many more chances.
miggy and gordon swaping positions on the left looked good against villa miggys ball for the goal was class
The problem we have re injuries is that we are currently compensating quality with intensity and work rate. Isak was rarely injured before he joined Newcastle, but he’s now running longer and harder than he ever has and his body can’t cope - it’s a similar story with Willock and Joelinton.
As Klopp did with Liverpool after a few years - we are going to have to make the transition to being a team that controls games and possession more to reduce the amount of running the team do. Sandro Tonali was a big part of that which is why it’s a real shame he hasn’t been available.
Hopefully next season with more depth and better players the intense running will reduce and be better for everyone.
Thanks for the updates Craig, enjoyed as always. See you again tomorrow at st James after a win!
HWTL
Glad we held onto miggy if billing was the alternative
Not all sunshine and roses regarding injuries but we are still in the middle of the build after the disastrous Ashley reign. It seems that the club has done as much as it has been allowed to do and was willing to spend more if allowed so we cannot really complain (apart from the spoilt children on Twitter). It's just the way things are. The future is still bright and we're in a far better place than we've been for a very long time.
Yes we need a ‘robust’ striker like Ivan Toney but clearly the Club at this point don’t have access to the funds needed. The long term injury problems are easing and that in effect means ‘new’ players in the squad. By avoiding further ‘debt’ now we will be in a much stronger position to change/strengthen the squad in the summer
The annoying thing is we had Toney, but rather than wait till he reached his potential, Ashley cashed in on him.
Ivan Toney is also a complete and utter bellend. Shown zero respect for Brentford at any point despite their backing of him. Would be a terrible character to bring into our fold.
@@tonynewby7201 I agree about Ivan Toney, I was just using him as an example of ‘robustness’ not suggesting he would be a good signing, so bad example but you get my point.
despite the CF problem with injury prone players it is the midfield that is the biggest concern with absolutely no cover, I think Tino L could step into one the midfield positions as cover, this could have been worked on in training as the problem has been there for a good few weeks. Tino looks like a player who could do a reasonable job anywhere on the pitch. We have 3 very winnable games coming up so worth trying out options of Tino L, Lewis Hall or Joe White in one of the 3 midfield positions.....Miley looks like he needs a rest and Bruno is one yellow away from suspension.
Wilson and Isak are made of glass unfortunately, could do worse than put Schar up front.. probably our top scoring defender with an eye for goal. Great summary as always Craig 🙌🙌🙌
When the great Bill Shankly was asked "After talent, what if the next thing you look for in a player?" He responded "The ability to play 42 games a season" . Unfortunately our lads, brilliant though they are on the pitch, don't have that. And with the uber high intensity way we play they're never going to get there by the looks of things. I'm sure the player that can get 20+goals a season and play at least 80%of the time and not have niggling injuries, he'd be worth £100m anywhere.
We are compensating quality with intensity currently.
Sandro Tonali was a big part of us taking more control of games and therefore reducing the need to press like maniacs for long periods of the game - losing him was monumental and has had a far bigger knock on than just a player missing from selection.
Shankly said no such thing. In 25 years as a manager he barley managed 42 games in a season so why would he claim his players would have to play that many games.
@markmcguinness953 how many games were played in the 1st div 1967- 72? Go on, have a look. I'll accept your apology.
The one thing I would say in Isak's defense is that because Wilson is injured so much then it puts more strain on him which probably means he gets injured more than he should.
Very balanced view Craig as usual, always revealing.
It's not so much Isak, it's mainly caused by Wilson. Over 40% of games he could've played in missed since he arrived. He's fantastic when he plays and scored but he misses far too many games. This then increases the load on Isak who clearly has a groin issue that requires surgery, but he can't be spared for that length of time because we've got nobody else who can be relied upon.
If signing Lewis Hall levy us with no spending options this window then we should not have signed him as we had LB options. Agree both strikers not fit enough and most elite strikers are fit most of the time like Kane & Salah. Big win tomorrow hopefully and next few games give us a good chance.
Are all of our targets only premier league players Craig? feels like the only players we're getting linked with are either Bournemouth or English players. Would have thought we would have tried other markets given the success of Botman, Bruno and Isak
Definitely betters deals to be made in other markets
On the other hand it sort of makes sense that players that only have to move house, that are familiar with the league, etc, are the preferred targets. Plus, we've our British quota to maintain. I suspect most 'foreign' clubs will put a massive NUFC hike on any player we're in for. Probably more so than Mid table PL clubs. Just my opinion. Bearing in mind that £3m was too much for Besiktas for Jam! How screwed must one of the biggest teams in Turkey be for lira if that's true? He's worth twice that to stay till the summer.
Any younger players coming in from weaker leagues are going to be going out on loan for a season or two before being anywhere near the first team.
We have been linked with a few from other leagues, Sesko and Ederson spring to mind.
I think the players that fit for us are just out of our reach in this window for whatever reason but obviously FFP plays a huge part.
@crabby5700 agreed. I think a lot of those 'links' are just agents trying to talk up their clients either for better contracts where they are or to see who is interested.
If I was the club owner, I would be worried about giving Eddie money to spend in the summer.
Do you think that going forward we will see changes in how clubs are financed. Meaning that for those clubs who’s owners are not prepared or able to increase their equity in the club through direct investment of their own money, they will have to grow revenues by whatever means and focus on home grown talent to invest in the squad. The outcome of this being less capital available for big value signings across the board, which in turn will reduce demand and opportunity for big ticket prices both for transfers and consequently for wages. Ultimately we will see the market settle as demand is reduced by ability to spend. ??
Well said Craig, we can all see a striker who can play the vast majority of games is a must, isak is world class....when on the pitch
How was the timing of open a bottle of water, swig and then answer the question??
He went dry. Big surprise. He was just all words. No water.
I would get Mitrovich back, he's solid and more disciplined now. 😊
Hes a championship player at best
I think in the summer Wilson will be replaced by a more 'regular' striker (Sesko links etc)
We are not selling our players, and there is no one else to sell. So no business. Not that hard to understand why we did not bring in anyone.
I worry about Eddie sometimes. Left side of midfield is not the problem and Billing certainly isn't the answer. These safe and steady signings aren't going to get us to where we need to be. No6 is the problem and I'm very very concerned that he can't see that.
Billing is a Championship player.
Agree with your concerns but I think the people at the top have conceded the season is dead and want to keep all funds for the end of the season rebuild rather than paying over the top (January prices) plugging holes to get try and get CL football again, which to be honest doesn't look likely even with a signing in.
Yeah Isak & Wilsons consistant injuries is unmatched by any other strike partnership in the prem
I would play Gordon LW, Barnes CF and Murphy RW. Just to see how it works.
Craig, why do Newcastle have the longest press conferences?
Hall and tino can play midfield if needed or trips
I do hope the club get what they expect and need when it's time to invest in a new striker in the summer. That's probably the most important outlay they'll have to make for the next few seasons. Get it right and we're laughing, get it wrong and there goes ffp and possibly a regular top 4 push for a while.
Amadou Onana, not Andre
Our front 3 interchange during matches. I can see Murphy going up front at times so Gordon can wreak havoc from the wings
Mad Dog was a manager at AFC Bournemouth, he should be able to do a PC.
I'm sure decisions have been made carefully and thoroughly with our present/future situation in mind. If we'd been in a relegation fight I'm positive additions would have come in - as it is we have players coming back for a FA cup run and a real push for European qualification with a view to a decent shake up in the Summer
Thought JT did well there a chip off the old Eddie block on injuries... only time will tell if we should have 'gone in harder' on January window but without giving FFP even more airtime ...we didnt or couldn't. Perhaps with the injured players starting to trickle back we'll have just enough to make a European place. Calculated risks...
Given our current lack of options in midfield, and with Bruno one booking away from suspension, and willock still a couple of weeks away, why not keep a hold of Hayden rather than farm him out on loan? Yes he’s probably not the player he was, but it’s another experienced player to chuck on for the last 20 mins and cover for injuries/suspensions.
Why no loan deals from PIF sister clubs? Mitro & Neves perhaps? 🤔
Love your content craig 👏🏼 keep up the good work mate
It seems all the clubs have now reached FFP limits.
Good thing about that is that as soon as the so called big 6 are affected by ffp the rules will change. Also the sponsors of the league are turning the screw because they rely on big activities through the transfer window.
I'm treating Barnes and Willock and January signings due to how absent they have been this season, through no fault of their own. Like most new signing we will first see them on the bench and getting a few minutes at the end of matches, then in 4 or 5 games time hopefully both will be in a position to start. Feeling positive about the second half of the season.
Barnes will certainly feel like it, just as Tonali will feel like an upcoming Summer signing
50% for 2 strikers just isn't good enough.
Hopefully whatever has gone on in the background with treatment gets nipped in the bud because this season has been just ridiculous for injuries
Why did we eell wood
They did it with woods and shelvey
Hi Craig - I'm a bit baffled with the Iasaac Hayden loan. He was a decent player for us and seemed like a good professional. Why did we not keep him as an extra body to give Miley a breather?
I think it’s better to “accept” a lower league finish this year than risk a points deduction next for an FFP breach. But even then, it’s not all doom and gloom this season even with the squad problems.
nice one craig.
Best ability is availability
Does Neil and both Steve feel happy now we haven't weakened the squad . It Seems we were never in to sign players in
I wanted to cash in on miggy, thank god we didn’t if that’s the players we’d had gone in for. Apart from Gibbs-White
Almiron is on another level compared to Gibbs White. I watch Forest regularly and he's not that good. They've just signed Gio Reyna to replace him
Isnt it ironic that two strikers being touted as "solid" or "reliable" on the comments are Toney & Mitrovic...who were our players. 🙄
None of the players we get linked with can make us competitive in the champions league or against spurs, arsenal, city, Liverpool. I love Eddie but these links to Bournemouth players and relegated Leicester players are not good for the clubs ambition.
You make this management lark sound so simple Craig 🤔
Thats Eddie out for the season then
no excuse for not getting loans in
I mean has worked well in the past. Slimani, Bentaleb, De Jong, Barraco, Lazaro etc. 😂 no clubs are doing us favours in the loan market anymore, either huge up front fee's or over inflated obligation to buy prices tacked on.
Gordon goes wide right in his false nine role. See the third goal against Villa.
Luton have been goingvwell
They've signed a Japanese player. Can see us getting beat again tomorrow
It all comes down toFFP no money no players
Only it's not a risk because not all about the next 5 months.
Billing! 🤦🏻 We need to be aimer for better than that if we want to progress.
But currently we need cover, I'd agree 100% if we weren't on the nut for 1st team cover.
Ideally we need another CL quality striker and CB. They're not cheap. Billing is neither but EH knows him. It's all moot now though. 👍
We've got a team full of sicknotes, get rid of them.
9 potential points from low hanging fruit ? Never count ya chickens mate, every team regardless of there position in the premier league are capable of winning games.
Billing and KDH lol what are you smoking 😂😂
Shouldve sold Matt Targett, Lascelles and Paul Dummett. Couldve got £15m for all them. Big changes will occur when the new manager is brought in.
Isak obviously needs a groin surgery that they are trying to hold out on to the end of the season
To buy, we have to sell. So if we sold anybody and then couldn't sign a replacement we'd leave the team in an even weaker situation. If we had more players fit it might have been feasible, but we're struggling to put a bench worthy of the name out right now.
And Miggy would be the last person I'd sell. His effort, commitment, FITNESS skill and attitude is second to none. For the whiners who say "he doesn't get enough crosses in - DER!!! How many of Trippier's crosses come directly from Miggy dragging defenders one way and then creating space for Trippier to have time to pick his cross?
Eddie is FULLY AWARE that Miggy - like so many left footers - is totally left footed and if he wanted him to cross on the run he'd play him down the left - as he successfully did against Villa. He plays Miggy down the right for tactical purposes. Remember, he came in as a No10, not a winger. I suggest people let Eddie handle the tactics.
Want to talk about being good at your job? Every one of your predictions this window has been pure click bait. MSM, as always, FAKE NEWS.
Almiron is primarily a cam and left winger. He's played on the left wing a few times for Paraguay. Used to be a central midfielder for Lanus.
Should be selling Sean Longstaff, Dan Burn, Matt Targett, Lascelles, Ritchie, Dummett, Gillespie, Wilson etc
@@BrianPinas9 I meant he's not a right winger, I missed the word 'right' - my bad - but I think we agree that right wing is not his natural position. I'd love to see him play down the left wing because his pace gets him to the byline and he could then whip in crosses like he did v Villa - a cross that took out both defender and keeper with laser like precision. He can't do that with his right foot, but neither could other left footed players like Ben Arfa etc. Left footers do tend to only have one foot to pass and shoot with, but when they do it's usually a work of art.
Eddie wants to play him down the right and I do understand why - the number of crosses he lays on for Tripps and the times he cuts inside to play midfielders in or pick out the top corner.
On Saturday he spent most of his time having to double up with Dan Burn because their winger had BDB on toast until he did. If we played Tino as left back and Miggy left wing, Miggy could concentrate on attacking and whipping in left footed crosses on the run. That's where he would be most effective imo, but I leave tactics to Eddie and I'll just make noise from my seat to give the lads my full backing 😆
If you thought there was nothing cynical in Eddies absence THEN WHY MENTION IT 🤔🤔
They definitely should have kept Hayden until the end of the season to give an extra number in midfield. I just don't get why Howe doesn't fancy him. Either Tonali's space or the space left by Manquillo could have been used to get Hayden back in the 25 man squad.
Hayden would've relegated us
This is the 3rd or 4th time i have seen Isak go down unexplicably during a match, bad medical advice from Medical staff
I would have asked thatbhe has an op longbago like Rooney did many years ago
Dear Craig,
Canny video as always👍
Score prediction:5-0 the Toon👍🤘✊😎😁👏
Regards,
Such a hack to even mention Howe dodging questions on transfers "if you're a cynic"...then saying you dont think that...then repeating it. You can tell you work for the Daily Mail.
Maybe Jonny King has the midas touch to heal and prevent Wilson and Isak from breaking down for the rest of the season
I'm so tired of Isak picking up injuries. I'd not be bothered if we sold him to be honest. Nothing against his character or ability. It is because he just isn't on the pitch enough. I think we should just get his groin stretched out like Van Dam in kick-boxer.
Haha, great film. Isak needs a good feed and should bulk up so he looks like Atilla from the film AWOL
So..my guy can pass long and shot really well, he'd be amazing at hold up play, we know he can strike and score.....so why not start schar up front. I know its a rediculous thing to say, but just for one minute, put that out of your head and ask your self, why is it a rediculous thing to say?
We dont need Isak against Luton.
If we are paying more than we payed for Isak then the footballer better be better than Isak. Can't be wasting money on just the English tax.
Isak has to track back way too much, howe needs to drop longstiff he's the problem. Big Joe helps cover that role. I like isak but there is a reason why he's always injured.
The Japanese league, Austrian league etc etc are RAMMED with talent for dead cheap. Why are we only wanting over priced British players? We are wanting to over pay for players just cause they are British. It’s infuriating. Caicedo was 4M when Brighton signed him. Mitoma was like 1M or something. Why the fk do we have to sign players from the PL? It’s so depressing honestly.
Looking for players who go straight into the first team. We'll be looking at deals for young players (like Minteh, Koul etc) behind the scenes for sure. Hopefully we'll not hear about them until they're done so that the names can't get leaked to the press and push the price up.
Another bang average over priced english player linked... Eddie needs to realise hes not at Bournemouth anymore
He is atrocious in transfer windows. Goes for the wrong players and overpays for average British players
This guy is the negative person ever to walk the earth
Christ you’re turning into a miserable, negative get. You almost looked sad at the win at Villa.
Never thought i’d be grateful to keep miggy if the targets to come in were billing and dewsbury hall 🫣
No one in the squad can play in Bruno's position and he is a booking away from a 2 match suspension. I think we really needed someone - anyone to come in for that. Iasaac Hayden would have been perfect!
Would rather have Vurnon Anita back
