- What kind of pre-flight preparations do pilots have to do before they go flying?
Who does what and how do they determine how much fuel that they need to uplift into the aircraft?
This and many more things will be covered in this video. You will get to follow me and my collegue Luca when we go through the Weather, NOTAM's, Flightplans and much more. Make sure you watch the whole video to the end, you might have to do this yourselves some day!

Such a great person with a truly radicated passion. If there were more people like him, world would be a better place to be.
Thank you! Thats great to hear!
Mentour Pilot your awesome! If I was your student at a flight academy I will be soo lucky to have a great pilot like you as my teacher! I want to be a pilot just like you! It’s a career I have yearned for since the age of 4
I know, I fucking love this guy. My girlfriend says that I have a man crush lol
9881RootOriginPort11 lol
It is brilliant and amazing to have watch his video
Every time I watch one these videos my admiration and respect for a pilot increases. A lot of pre planning and knowledge is required to be one.
As a student pilot , it's really nice to see a captain taking his personal time to explain the "unknowns" . Great channel , great videos :)
Egitim bitti mi
You can know a man by his work ethic, professionalism, and attention to detail. Both you and your FO are pros.
This video tells about the meticulous preparation of the pilot work before takeoff and nothing can be taken for granted. Superb captain for your dedication
As someone who has always been a huge fanboy of flying and been around planes my whole life, seeing your day to day is really interesting to me. I don’t know or care to know what you get paid but you guys deserve more for all you do and have to know. huge fan of your channel btw
Great job - I love this peek behind the curtain. I'm watching these videos in an effort to get over a fear of flying (as a passenger) and, so far, this is doing an amazing job. BRAVO, Mentour Pilot!!!
I watch for the same reason, and because he is an awesome human! I have yet to get over my fear of flying, but I could probably get closer if Petter was the pilot!
Love your videos ! As a dispatcher I find them really interesting as they make me understand a bit more what's going on in the cockpit.
Great to hear!
This guy is obviously well respected as well as well liked. Very informative videos without getting boring. I always look forward to the vlogs. Please never change and continue to educate us regarding your career path. Oh and as a Scotsman it was great to hear you pronounce Edinburgh correctly 🤗
Haha I love how at the start the camera started rolling just before you began walking, so there's a moment when you haven't begun walking yet, and then you begin walking to take the intro shot. It's these little quirks/"mistakes" which make me realise that making videos like these takes a lot of deliberate work - they show just how much thought you put into the little details, how much effort you put into making this podcast as entertaining and polished as they are informative. I've been binge-watching your videos for a week now and I don't see myself stopping till I get through every single one of them. Thank you for all your amazing work :)
Thank you Mentour for motivating me every single day!
Captain Petter great video and as a former aircraft engineer approaching 80 years young who still loves to fly long haul, it is good to learn what goes on behind the scenes to get us safely to destination. There seems to be much information to digest and understand even before the pre-flight walk around. Many thanks for all the good gen.
As always, another great video. I love watching your videos specifically, for the fact that they are low key, precise and very informative. Thank you Mentour Pilot. I'd like to see you cover ILS landing procedures in an upcoming video.
A great flying officer, with pin point precision, really marvellous and enjoying all his videos with real enthusiasm. The physics of Aero dynamics elucidated so distinctly, although I'm no Pilot, watching his his videos has always kept me glued in it, I'm really obsessed as a ardent follower of this great channel. May God bless you and be with you always. Jacolyn (Srilanka).
Thank you for getting us close to the Aviation World✈❤
Fantastic video Mentour! Your videos are always very informative and never disappoint. All the best, and keep it up!
Thank you Petter for The Best Videos On CZcams. Thank you for all that you do for us !!!!
I definitely will be supporting you on Paetron !!!!
this is so comforting! i dont know about the rest of the people who watch your videos, but i was under the impression that you usually knew nothing about the weather when you were on an aircraft, i thought it was a bit of a surprise how the day would go and that's why turbulence scares me a lot, cause it feels like the crew didnt know about it or werent ready for it. but now i see you have everything in order and as much control as it can be!
You are really doing a great job. Thanks for the knowledge you are passing on. Well detailed, coordinated and straith to the point.
Very informative video captain. You're every video is fantastic
This is such a tough subject to talk about. #1 It's highly technical. #2 It's a dangerous game because you risk disclosing proprietary or security information. #3 There is a ton of material to cover because there is a lot of material that pilots have to sort through. Thank you for cutting through it and letting us see.
I highly admire and respect you first as a person and second as a really highly competent captain. Your video is very informative, gives a good insight for both youngsters who who want to decide the career and also to aspiring pilot. It also increases the knowledge of anyone watching any of your video. I wish other professionals in different field can also take the initiative to gives us especially the youngsters an insight in their relevant field.
Excellent video, fantastic overview! I really appreciate the time and effort taken to make your videos, the content of this video however I found especially interesting!
Great to hear! Feel free to share it with your aviation loving friends!
I have learned so much from watching your videos. You take the time to interact with your audience and it keeps us engaged no matter how long each video is. Great job as always.🛩✈️🤸🏽♀️
Thank you! Great to hear that you are appreciating the videos. Keep coming with suggestions and join me in the Sunday live-streams!
Fantastic video as usual !! Thank you so much for all your time and effort you put in for all these videos
Loved this video mentour! Its really awesome to see you out in the field!
Great video, and perfect idea of showing the before flight job!
Glad to hear that you liked it!
I'm becoming more and more comfortable with flying... I had no idea! On top of all the pre-flight checks you guys do this too? It seems like every avenue is covered, wonderful, thank you!
Awesome seeing this side of the profession. Thanks for the videos, Captain. Can you please make a video on cost index and how it's used to determine flight speeds/altitudes?
These videos are really fascinating. Thank you!
Love this type of video would like to see more with preflight planning and decision making ! Thumbs up!
Videos like these ones have really helped me get over my fear of flying. I suppose when anything bad happens with a plane you only ever see the disasters either in films or in real life on the news. So you never get a clear picture in your head of just how safe flying is or the amount of work that actually goes into flying a plane from the engineers, to the pilots, air stewards, safety checks etc.
I recently flew on a plane where someonething occurred with an airlock after the plane already landed safely. This fault occurred while loading passenger luggage onto the aircraft. We all boarded the plane but after about an hour of no joy trying to fix the fault we had to disembark and get back on another plane.
Then we got ready to go to the runway and an aggressive passenger kicked off so it was back to parking the plane to have him arrested and taken off.
7 hour delay in total but it was so reassuring to see no matter how long anything takes, if something isn't right then it's a case of hurry up and wait.
It was my husband and kids first time flying whereas I've flown for 28 years. I had to tell them these were highly unusual circumstances also the weather caused more delays stopping and starting take offs and landings and we were about no.30 in the queue for take off.
Flight was fine and flight home was very quick and smooth.
Love flying now :)
Hi Capt, I just found your channel
thank you for awesome video and pls know you are changing the life of many aviation kids. just wanna say we appreciated the work and effort you put into this.
subscribed and I will always be looking forward to your new video. have a safe flight sir
Great video, when I worked for AA in DCA, they had separate crew rooms and the main room had tons of computers set up for the pilots. I always miss the smell of Jet A in the morning. Very informative video, especially for someone who has never seen what you do before you get to the plane, most people think it's like a rental car, next flight crew jumps in and your off
Good to learn what your pilot have to do before your flight ✈️ thanks 🙏
Was waiting for a video like that one. Amazing job, thanks so much !
A truly fascinating video. Thanks for posting something very few of us non aviation people would ever think about.
You're a perfect pilot sir , 👨✈️🛩👍
I like the way how politely you talk with us
Only a great people are ready to share there knowledge and experience. Bravo!
Always incredible your professionalism Mentour! Waiting for the next one! :)

I can never get over how awesome those intros are with the engines starting and the aircraft in the sky
Glad to hear that you like it!
Thanks. Terrific tour of your paperwork and procedures.
Thank you Bruce! Great to hear that you liked it!
As always, awesome video! Very informative and good presentation.
Great video as this is one of the things I always wondered about! Absolutely fantastic! :)
This is absolutely fantastic! So cool to see what actually happens.
Great video as always, thanks for sharing!
Awesome video with very crisp information. Really like the way you present. Can you do a pod-cast specifically on way-points in the flight plan and how are they decided and what can influence a change...
I would like a video explaining more about the numbers and info on the flight plan... I guess I would be a great subject! Your channel is great!! Congrats
That can definitely be done!
Great video. I am not a pilot but i learn so much just by watching. I downloaded the mentour pilot app a couple weeks ago and all the info is top notch. My home airport is hartsfield jackson international in atlanta,ga. 20 min from my house.
Thanks for taking us with you on your preflight these vlogs are so good wow iam hooked
Im glad to hear that you like them!
Thank you for this informative and interesting podcast on pre-flight briefings for pilots. Also, please show a podcast on crew briefings too and what they do before the flight takes off.
wow...great video,loved it...keep it coming
Are you an instructor? If not, then you should definitely be one. I am not a pilot or even close to that level of knowledge but in just a few videos, I am learning. You have a way of making things seem to be so clear and understandable. Thank you for these videos.
Yes. Petter is a line captain & teches new cadets in sims and tests seasoned pilots on check rides and type ratings when a pilot changes to a different type of plane 737 from airbus 380 perhaps.
As an F/A i love how u are going to advice crew about CAT, so no one gets hurt. Not every pilot seems to look at turbulence chances and tell the crew. Beautiful explanation, safe flying to you and all reading this comment. Question did you ever come to LMML?
Thank you for making this video, really adds some perspective of what it means to be a pilot 🧑✈️
Mentour i really loved this video... you answered a lot of questions... i really hope more stuff like this comes out.. Cheers
Come with suggestions and they might just come true!
Who else likes the videos before watching them completely
Thats very nice of you but I want to her what you thought AFTER the video as well. Thanks for your support!
Your each and every video is perfectly shot and really helpful!! Love your work Mentour 🤗
Me :-)
I hit 'like' and go make dinner before watching!
Wel, I don't really like them, I love them 😉.
Captain, I commented over at your Patreon location... Good technical pre-flight video. Thanks for sharing the information in such a professional and interesting manner.
Thank you for your excellent support Kevin! It's much appreciated!
+Mentour Pilot Hello Petter. You just made one of the best, most interesting videos since you started Captain. It just turned into my favourite video and I really appreciated the huge effort you made filming it for us, and just before a flight, CRAZY . I feel really lucky to be part of the community you created and since I follow you from the very FIRST VIDEO you made, I can really say how much improvement you've been doing to the channel in these two years . Thank you so much Petter! As always keep on the GREAT GREAT job, hope to meet you soon in the skies (just give me some time to start my way towards flightschhol! ; ) ). THX Davide
Very cool video thanks!
Thank you sir😃
Your videos helped me convince my parents for Pilot Training.
And now flying and reaching my dream
Love that you fixed the sound on the intro, so it doesn't make the ears ache!
You should really do a video on preparation for the tests to get into a pilot school, what kind of maths you need, the tasks etc! We are probably many who are going very soon and want to be as prepared as possible, you could do that!
I will see what I can do
Thank you very much Petter, so glad to the dramatic increase of your subscribers for the roughly 2 years I've followed you, to a few thousand to 70.000+. I hope it keeps growing! :)
Thank you. I hope so to, it enables me to do much cooler things
I love your channel. Keep up the great videos!
Your videos are getting better all the time. Fantastic work. :)
Thank you! Im so happy that you think so!
Love the video Petter!
Great info. I would like a video that continues this one: What you do when you arrive at the aircraft, before you take off.
thank you very much for your videos, specially this for such a detailed information.
These videos prove that airline pilots are the CREME de la CREME in the hierarchy of professions. You guys earn every penny!
ha! felt like watching the weather forecast on TV mentour.
Hahaha
Superb video my friend. Thanks for making and sharing it.
Thank YOU for supporting and following the channel!
The flight plan looks so much like that used in simbrief( for flight Sims) now I can read it more accurately😁😄
As always the best ! Very good Captain.
Thank you! Great to hear!
Great video. Fascinating to see what goes on before a plane even takes off.
Can you show us what goes on in regards dealing with dispatchers etc getting clearance, push back etc
Dear Mentour. I love your vids I really look forward to them and enjoy every one. You've inspired me to become a pilot myself and I'm very grateful. Keep up the good work. ❤️
Thank You! I will do my best to continue to deliver.
Best of luck with your training!
Mentour Pilot Thank you so much for the reply!
No probs!
Very informative! Thanks for sharing!
Hi there. This is the first video of yours that I have watched, I'm quite interested in what happens before flights and how you prepare etc., so I have definitely subscribed for more! Also, I am from Glasgow, so it was interesting to see that you may have had to fly in an airport I always use😉 Usually, when flying into Scotland, you can expect some rain 😂 Love the video
Loved this video, nice and long! 😀 It was very interesting, I hope you have a fantastic day too!
Thank you! Great to hear!
Love your channel!
My dad is a retired airline Captain for American Airlines. I find it really interesting to see the prep work.
Very nice video.. Hope you to do multiple separate podcasts talking about each paper and explane to us what's written on them.. Many thanks for your efforts
@mentour great concept. learning alot from your videos. Keep it up
I love your video and training captain Joe.
Very nice video and fun to watch. Have a nice day.
Love your videos! Thanks for uploading!
Thank YOU for supporting!
Mentour Pilot could you make a video about the pilots impotence? It may sound silly haha! Like why does the nose radar affects it and so on?
I dont think thats a wide spread problem. The wx radar does NOT affect that.
Mentour Pilot ok thanks for the reply but maybe an overall video about the pilots health? In my country a lot of retired pilots are complaining about back problems caused by the constant pressure change :)
Thanks it’s interesting to see that you guys apply a lot of what we do in the single engine aircraft. I was surprised to see you don’t get your briefing using an iPad and ForeFlight
Love your videos very informative with style😄👍👍🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
Awesome video Petter! Enjoyed it ! Keep it up!! :D
Thanks man! Glad you liked it!
Great info, Thanks.
Perfect work
Awesome, as usual. All the best Captain
Thank you!
that was informative and gave me a good overview on how to read the METARs
Wow I am living my dream watching these videos. So wanted to be a pilot but unfortunately don't have the finances to back up. Infinite flight helps me fulfill my cravings a bit. But u sir is just fantastic. Already Subscribed :)
Very interesting ty for sharing it with us
Awesome videos Capitain!
I'm an enthusiast when it comes to planes, your vids help me to calm my curiosity.
Thanks!!
