  • Here's this weeks ASMR edition of my latest video. If you'd prefer to watch the FULLY narrated version, that goes into a lot more detail about each step, you can find it here: • Making Plates with Mou...
Do you remember those mouldy plates I trimmed earlier this year? Well, here's the conclusion to that film. This time, I show the throwing, trimming, bisque firing, glazing, reduction firing and the final sanding! I even have a small treat off one, like anyone needs to be shown how to use a plate, right? Thanks for watching!

0:00 - Throwing the plates with mouldy clay
    9:33 - Trimming the plates
26:17 - How I 'fix' mouldy clay using bleach
27:50 - Loading my electric kiln for a bisque firing
    28:30 - Waxing the plates
    29:26 - Glazing the plates
30:33 - Tidying up the glazed plates
32:16 - Packing the gas kiln for a reduction firing
    32:38 - Reduction firing to 1290ºC
    33:48 - Unpacking the kiln
34:38 - Sanding the plates bottoms
35:39 - A treat for all that hard work
    36:08 - The finished plates
It's worth noting! That you won't get the same results as I do if you're firing in oxidation. The reduction firing really helps with this process.
*I throw using both a Rohde HMT 500 & 600 potter's wheel and fire using Rohde kilns too, the electric is a TE-200 and the gas kiln is a KG-340.

Florian, I enjoy how you showed the throwing and trimming of multiple plates. It does help seeing the process repeat. It is also very relaxing to watch. Thank you for being so thorough. I appreciate it!

I just bought your book! If i'm lucky my flimsy memory will remember to watch for your next shop update, so I can purchase one of your pieces. Your videos deepened my curiosity into pottery, and now three months since I first started the wheel i'm getting prepped to sell at the local market next weekend.

God he makes centering the bats and clay look so easy, absolutely ridiculous.

Practice. Hours and hours, years on years. I believe anyone is capable of similar skill level if you are determined enough and put in enough time at the wheel. But it is consuming. You have to almost exclude all other things from your life.

@@davezad Oh I don't doubt that he's earned the talent through thousands of hours of practice, but the end result is a marvel that makes it look so simple.

@@floriangadsby Wow! I’m just new to the pottery world.. and the question of mold on clay is just relevant.. there’s a briquette covered with mold 🙃.. if suddenly it’s possible to tell me more about this, I’d be very grateful.. I’ve never seen this method before.. Thanks a lot !

Good sir, how much bleach do you add to the bucket of moldy clay? Beautiful skill and precision as always, and that glaze effect is absolutely lovely.
