    Souness's Liverpool spell was disastrous. This interview is taken at a time when he was still defensive and being economical with the truth. He wasnt there for ' 2 and a bit years. It was a full 36 months ie 3 years. He didnt inherit an " old squad" who "hadnt won anything for 2 years" they were league champions 18 months earlier and runners up 6 months earlier.The " old players" he talks about were 29 or 30 year olds and still with lots of mileage.He got rid of Beardsley,Staunton and his recruitment was some of the very worst of the 80s or 90s by a big 6 club in what were easier times to get it right. Ruddock,Dicks,Saunders,Walters,Thomas were not Liverpool signings

    • @SFNDMK
      @SFNDMK Před 2 lety +3

      Not really. Souness did inherit an older team, but they were no where near as derelict as Souness claims them to be. They were defending champions and were still in the title race when he was appointed. The problem he had was that he made too many decisions which spoiled the cohesion of the team. He got rid of the right players at the wrong time and brought in replacements that simply weren't good enough. Changes were to be made but had to be done sparingly, which was part of Liverpool success in the 2 decades prior

  • @paulcarbonaro6748

    Graeme wasn't the brains at Rangers - Walter Smith was. Also, he signed players for Liverpool that simply weren't 'Liverpool' players, such as Julian Dicks. Shankly, Paisley, and Fagan would never have signed such a player. Frankly, Geaeme ruined Liverpool and established the decline which would result in decades without a League championship. And, he was no great shakes either at any of the other clubs he managed. Maybe he didn't want it, but Ronnie Moran should have become the manager, assisted by Roy Evans.

I didn't watch it. None of us could after what Souness did. We burnt loads of sun papers in the local park. This interview, he kinda blames it on others and says 'Liverpool players did it' ' well, does that make it right?
    Sorry but Souness, I have absolutely no respect for you. The quite funny thing is, years later, his autobiography was ghost written by Mike Ellis, who was a Sun reporter at the time of hillsborough and when the book was written, many years later
