    This is good advice for filling spools with any line which isnt bulk supplied. I use this method for braid. I've just put some of this tapered line onto my reels. Although about 1/3 more expensive for 1000m, or 3 spools, it's still good value. If you reverse it at the end of the season you get 2 years of use, which you probably wouldn't do with regular bulk mono. Also, on big weedy pits the .50 leader end gives you more abrasion resistance.

    I do like the tapered exocet line if leaders are banned but for masive casts I do like a braided leader. The one thing with the tapered line I do not like is the lenth of the thinker 'leader' line so I always cut it down a bit.

    Why don’t Fox just have an insert for their spools like Shimano have save you all the extra backing out and on the insert put the amounts required at the different diameters of line ? You could even sell them separately as spares if you didn’t want to give as part of issue when purchasing your new reels !

    This video could have been useful, but instead will lead to many underfilled spools. 😉
    Yes, you need to count the backing line, but NOT when you fill up the first spool!
    You need to count, when loading it over to an empty spool!
    The same length of line will result different turn counts on a half filled spool and an empty one. And for the rest of your reels you need the latter.

  • @jamesriley6344
    @jamesriley6344 Před 4 lety +5

      @@kk-GUK that's not true mate. Do this experiment and you'll see....
      Get an empty spool and wind on 50 turns of line. (by turn, I mean a full turn of the handle).
      Take the line off and store it somewhere.
      Then load the spool with line, or swap the spool for one that is fully loaded.
      Then, load the same 50 turns of line on. All of a sudden, it won't be 50 turns of line.

      Do as Harry does for first spool - tapered line on, then backing. No need to count turns. Put only the backing onto spool 2. Refill spool 1 with backing. Then also transfer backing only to spool 2. Refill spool 1 with backing again, then transfer all of it to spool 3. Transfer one set of backing from spool 2 to spool 1. Wind tapered line onto 1 and 2. Job done, no inaccurate counting like Harry's method, and you only need 3 spools to do it.

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  Před 4 lety

      James Riley we’d like to think most anglers are able to count 😂 Harry’s method only requires 3 spools. The third mentioned is a spare for when you are fishing. But yes your method will work as well.

    Absolute rubbish, why are you making something that is so simple bloody difficult? just stick with normal main line all the way through, no need to complicate things with all this nonsense!

    • @fox_international
      @fox_international  Před 4 lety +1

      Tapered mainlines are not for everyone, but some anglers will see the benefits that it will offer their fishing so will like this tip.
      A normal mainline all the way through can at times be too thin to withstand the force of a big cast, if fishing at distance. Equally if your line is thick enough (strong enough) to withstand the cast it will not cast as far as you can with a thinner line and a leader. This line fuses the two together so you have a thick line to withstand the force of the cast and a thin line causing less friction and casting a lot further. It will be the difference between fishing at 120 yards and 150 yards for many anglers!

      @@bennicholson191 well yes i don't go fishing at the moment as i am following the lockdown rules, and no i don't own a pole but on some lakes i cast to 120 yards with 12lb main line and 3.5oz leads no problems, guess if i was going to fish a huge reservoir and needed to cast to 200 yards then maybe this tapered line might work, but if i had to cast that sort of distance i would use my bait boat to take it out and drop it, so still no need for a tapered line lol
