In this video, I’m re-spooling with some Berkley Big Game mono but you can follow these instructions with any monofilament or braided mainline on a fixed spool reel. This is a great carp fishing video for beginners but it may also give more experienced anglers a tip or too! At the end, I show you how to avoid and remove line twists from your line when you’re fishing.

Hi Matthew hope you are well! How do you spoil surface fishing lines that are hydrophobic ? I keep getting memory twist on my line when I spool. I’ve also been told to use 15lb mainline on a new water and I wondered if you had any tips ? Cheers
@@cbing4036 Hi mate, I’ve never even heard of hydrophobic monofilament fishing line. I’m familiar with the Nash Zig-Flo which is a neutral density hooklink.
I guess your new water states 15lb as a minimum line strength right? In that case I’d be very surprised if surface fishing was allowed. 15lbs is too heavy for surface fishing in my opinion unless you used a big heavy controller and then were allowed to use a finer material as the hooklink? Going back to your original issue of line twist, I’d say that you are spooling it up wrong to start with. I think the hydrophobic bit is a red herring. Even if you’ve found hydrophobic mono, if you follow this video then line twist shouldn't be an issue. If it is then I’d send it back!
BTW the Nash Zig-Flo comes on 100m and 300m spools. The 300m spools are designed for anglers that want to use it as a surface fishing mainline. I tested the 12lbs this winter as a bottom bait hooklink. I banked loads of 30s and 40s on this material with zero issues from our rocky lake so it’s proper good stuff! Hope that helps mate. @@matthewcollinsangler thank you for your detailed response. You can surface fish but minimum mainline is still 15lb. There’s a small pond attached to the main lake which has a few lily pads in. I will try a large controller float.
@@cbing4036 Okay cool so what I’d use is 15lb Zig-Flo as the mainline and then the 10lb version as a hooklink. Zig-Flo is very a robust neutral density line that is perfect for surface fishing. I’d couple that with a Flota-Claw in and 8 or a 10 which has a finer gauge (it weighs less). Best of luck, Matt.

Hi Matt, I’ve been angling since a kid, had a good stint off before starting again around 8/9 years ago although re-starting once more this year and your videos are perfect for re-educating and for some golden nuggets. What I really liked was in one video you talked about particle, when to/when not to use it, water temperature and info around why this is important. It’s the psychology you talked about of how to approach carp fishing I found very interesting. Would love to hear more of your carping wisdom.
@@KaneNelson Hi Kane, thanks for the background. Sounds like a very similar journey to myself actually. I started when I was very small then from 18 to 28, life got in the way. When I got back into it everything had changed and I had to learn fishing all over again and it’s very confusing! It’s nowhere near as complicated as people try to tell us. Took my brand new Battle II 5000 for a spin yesterday for the very first time and I hooked a 20lb yellowtail using a Ugly Stik X2 (medium hard) rod czcams.com/users/postUgkxM68VkfsQhHaabDce1IwOCXuvumcpbZ_k . This combo was recommended on some website and it did not disappoint me. The reel is smooth, the drag click is pretty cool cause i think it adds to the excitement of fighting the fish, personally the drag is my favorite part. I use braid and 300 yards will fill the entire spool. This combo is my main setup from now on although I have to disclose I am new to fishing.

Brilliant stuff Matt when I bought the synchro xt the fella said to take off label up, done that and still twisted up even tho I kept stopping and flipping it round to minimise twist, so will give this technique a try. and again many thanks
Hi Lee, thanks again for the positive feedback. Although this video was made when I was using the Big Game, I used exactly the same technique for the Synchro and it loaded well enough. If you try the Nash Bullet the instructions tell you to use the flip method. I tried it and didn't get on well at all so I went back to this method of drawing straight off the spool spinning in water. Best of luck, Matt.

Monofilament is hygroscopic and without the water it will always be curly even if it’s not twisted! For stripping the line, I've found using a sharp knife (e.g. boxcutter) to be really fast and easy (as long as you're careful, obviously!)

you done it perfectly iv re-spool thousands of times i still hate it but it has to be done and always done it the same way warm soapy water and its important to take the line of the front dont let it jump around in the bucket and do it rgt your have no issues. great video as always

Hi mate, glad that you are giving the Bullet a whirl, I’m really happy with it. The instructions on the box explain a different method but I still prefer mine. You might find it tricky to get the Bullet to spin nice in the bucket so an extra pair of hands to hold the spool on a spindle helps lol. Don’t wind too fast though as they are in for a soaking! @@matthewcollinsangler I’ve always employed the help of the wife or the kids to spoil up but was alone last night. I had fix soft steel which comes on a large bobbin. It kept tipping over so stuck a wooden spoon through the hoke as a spindle 😀😀😀
Hey we've all done the spoon trick lol. I've also roped the missus in a few times but if I go too fast she gets sprayed with water, gets the hump and I'm back to managing myself lol.

So it all depends on what range you’re fishing at, what's the worse case scenario you might need to tackle, what line you’re going to load and how large your spools are. For example on my 10000 Shimano's, if I'm preparing to fish my lake Beausoleil I'm going to want to load 25lb Big Game with 0.48mm mono. I going to want to take off all the old line and load fresh. That way I can fit approx 250 yards on the spool. I might only be fishing at 80 yards max but with cats to 115lbs+ and the lake being 250 yards long in the worst case scenario I might need all that line to prevent me being spooled out. Another example would be if I'm fishing at long range on a big public lake using 0.25mm braid. Even 300m of that won't properly fill the spool. To get the spool correctly filled, I'll add or leave some old line on there in order to correctly fill out the spool. To connect the two lines use something simple like the uni/uni knot, then spool accordingly. Hope that helps solve your dilemma! Cheers, Matt.

Hi mate, thanks for commenting and for the support. So yeah I've been using the Big Game for years actually. Mostly in the 25lb version as we have catfish to 100lbs+ at Beausoleil. The big game is a good all-rounder but it does suffer from stretch. If you can live with that it's very very reliable.
Last year I tested the ESP syncro XT loaded. It's okay but I didn't love it. I got bust up on a couple of big cats that I felt I should have been able to land. Abrasion resistance was good. Knot strength was iffy for me and I test every one properly.
This year I'm testing Nash Bullet in 20lbs for general use and 10lbs for max range. Really impressed actually. Abrasion resistance equal to the 25lb Big Game. Knots very well and consistently with the 5 turn tucked blood. Can deadlift 8kg kettle bell with 100% pass rate. Casts amazingly well. The 20lb version just flies! Like with all heavy monos, the Bullet can get coily (very coily) when dry. If you keep your spools damp (with a wrist band or a cloth), it will behave well. I will be doing some more videos on this but in the meantime I'd look at Big Game or Bullet. Hope that helps. Cheers, Matt.

As a novice this is great help!, but can this process be used on any reel? As I've only just brought rods and reels and need to put line on them.

This video was designed to show the correct method for spooling a fixed spool reel although I’m not sure it would be any different for a multiplier reel, so yes in short it will work for any make/model of reel. Very nicely produced video but, I've been fishing with mono for 60 years and just spool it on, as long as I use quality line like your using in this video I've never had a twisting problem.
Hi Jim, thanks for commenting. Line twist can be more of a problem if you’re fishing heavier line. At our lake, we recommend 25lb Big Game which is 0.48 mm diameter and if you tangle with one of our 100lb catfish they can rip many meters off the bait runner which can leave your line very twisted indeed! Good video with some good tips. Another way to remove line twist tho if it isn't practical to walk your line out... Simply put a couple of stones in a small mesh pva beg.. Tie onto mainline... Cast out as far as you need... Wait a few minutes for pva to dissolve... Then wind back in.

@@H2HSnakePL hi mate, thanks for commenting. As an ex plastics engineer I have no idea! It's nylon at the end of the day with some additives in. The biggest threat to strength and therefore life of mono is sunlight. Keep reels covered when not in use and change line once a year, that's it! I've been prepping my reels this way for 15 years and never had a problem. Banked a 90lb catfish this winter on 25lb big game that was loaded using this process. I test every knot with an 8kg weight and funnily enough the line never snaps on a fish.... Even a monster!

How often do you change your mainlines
Hi mate, ah okay cool. Yeah I did one spool following the Nash guidelines and I didn’t the method so I went back to the method that I used for Big Game and that works for me. I respool at least once per year. Sometimes more if I’ve had to cut a load off because of contact with a snag. The Bullet is mega tough and has saved my arse loads of times.
Great vid, thanks. Can you not use a spin doctor to reverse any twists out of the line instead of walking it out, cutting off the lead and winding it back in under tension?
Hi mate, I tried one many years ago but it’s very difficult to know how many casts to make and how far. Do it too much and you’ve made the problem worse (the other way!) So they weren’t for me and never touched them again.
Hi . Would you do the same with fluorocarbon coated mono line. I've heard warm water weakens the fluoro coatin . Is this true.
marc rite hello mate Fluorocarbon line doesn’t absorb water at all so soaking it will have no affect on the line itself but spoiling it I. A bucket of water does help get it on the reel easier

Hi Howard, thanks for commenting. I wouldn't bother with the warm water or the detergent as it's not going to make a blind bit of difference on braid. You can either load it dry just by spinning it on a pencil or in a bucket of clean water. You can use the same knot for connecting it to the spool but you might want to add more turns as the braid will slip much easier than mono. Try six or even nine turns. Don't forget that braid is much thinner than mono so you may well need to add some backing line before you load the braid. Knowing how much backing line to add is a bit of an art and a lot of guesswork! What I do is basically make a rough guess then spool up the braid. If I can't fit all the braid I want on, then I wind it off that spool onto another spare spool, then remove some backing line. If after I've loaded the braid there is too much gap to the lip of the spool, take it off then add more backing line. Don't forget to load less braid than you would normally do with mono. You should always under fill braid by 1-2mm. If you don't, you’ll get winds knots regularly and they are a right pain! Always walk out the braid to beyond the distance you are fishing and wind on under tension. If you don't, it can also cause big problems when making powerful casts. Hope that helps. Good luck, Matt.
Hi Matt, I’ve bought some of the Nash Bullet to re spool my reels as I had the XT syncro. Wondering what’s the best way to spool using the 1000m spool? Is it flat in the bucket?
I wouldn’t do that, you need to have the spool spinning vertically in the water 👍

I bought a new rod and spooled my reel up with preston floatmax line used it first time and after a few carp the line seemed to be grinding through the eyes when playing the fish under tension
Yes i have always used the drag and when i checked my line it had all gone rough not smooth anymore
I thought it was a bad batch of line so bought some more and the same happened again
I thought it was something to do with my roller bearing
Would it be because the twist ?

Hi mate, sounds like a damaged rod ring to me 🤔 The tip ring is most prone to damage and it’s also the ring that comes under the most lateral load relative to the line. I suspect the ceramic is chipped/split or damaged in some way. Give it a good clean, check it with an eye glass and see what you can find.

Warm water only no soap, hold the feeding hand further away from the spool for a smoother load.....I use damp cloth to weed the line through under tension.....
Flat line holders like Korda Subline must be spooled from label side up....but test for limp line regularly...has helped me !!
Soap is for removal of grease which makes line float. I would use it, no point in not using it.
im so bad for doing that and playing off line from the clutch before i put the rods on the alarms or pod whatever, i suffer line twist aswell all the time so this makes so much sense haha! will definately not be doing that anymore. cheers for the tips!

@@matthewcollinsangler luckily i respooled them all in january ready to go and havnt used them again yet, but lockdown has been a right nightmare tbh. Hopefully the 29th the uk fisheries re open and overnights are allowed again. I definately wont be doing that with clutch now though. Top tip. I do it alot aswell with my marker reel when using a marker float too which i will be stopping, cheers again 👍🏼
@@djscootmotns6431 Ah great, should be good then. If you've got braid on your marker rod, it's much less of an issue. Thin braid has a much higher twist tolerance. I still pull line off the clutch on my marker and I've never had an issue.

Hi Richard, no mate, that’s not going to go well for you. You need to have it sat in the water and draw it off the drum with the spool spinning like I show with the Big Game in this video. I’ve been spooling the Bullet this way for a few years now and it works well. Best of luck, Matt.
Cracking video. What I do is have an old bucket and have put a bar through it to put the line on. Then fill up just below the bar, saves the spool flipping over. Can I ask what reels those are. I've been looking at SHIMANO BEAST MASTER XTA 7000 but can't seem to find many reviews or info on them. Cheers
Hi mate, glad you like the video, thanks. Yeah that's a nice trick. I also have a bucket exactly like it! So those are Shimano Ultegra XSA c14 10000. Brilliant reels. They can cope with anything from massive cats, to heavy river carping, long distance and small waters. I bought mine 2nd hand for very little money. Not familiar with the Beast Master but if you can find a set of these 2nd hand in good nick you won't regret it. Happy hunting, Matt.

Matthew Collins Morning. In the end I went with a couple of Penn 8000 reels. Just got to spool them now. As the capacity is wrong side of 400 yds a lot seem to favour backing with old line and putting about 250yd main line. Never done this before normally just fill with the main line. This video should be highlighted as it is the complete guide to line and will help so many.
@@ardscorner Thanks very much for your positive feedback mate. I have no concerns about backing out spools with old line in order to put on whatever I need for whatever job. Just be sure to put at least twice of whatever you'll need and you should be fine. Beware of choice of backing line diameter if you are loading some very fine braid. I got it wrong myself last winter when trying to be too economical by splitting a 300m spool of 50lb braid between two spools. The knot caused me a few issues when casting on these spools as it was too bulky. Every day's a school day! Best of luck, Matt.

Hi Steve, thanks mate, glad you like what we are doing. Yeah so any use of the clutch will put twist into the line so that definitely includes playing fish off the clutch. I always used to play fish off the clutch but in recent years I’ve gone over to back winding. Back winding does not create any twist in the line so it helps keep it in better condition. There is a knack to it of course but I actually prefer it now and find it easier to control the fish in a very precise manner. Have a go and see how you get on :)

@@steveguest8028 Yes I totally get what you mean. The easy solution to that is to fish semi locked up which is how I always fish on any water. You need a really solid setup and then just tweak your clutches so that they can still take line but your rod doesn't go in. It makes a massive difference to my hook to land ratio ;)
You get line twist from playing fish on the drag so depending on how much line the fish takes, depends on how much line you need to untwist, I use a spin doctor to untwist my line which is a lead disigned to spin in the water in the oppersite direction to your line twist on realing in the lead. Hi Simon, thanks for commenting. Yes playing fish on the drag is one of the major causes of line twist. Sometimes on big catfish I actually switch to back winding to help save the twist. I did try a Gardner spin doctor quite a few years ago but I found it impossible to tell how many casts to make and in the end I gave up with it as I felt it was making it worse! Yes there Is a bit of a knack to using the spin doctor @@matthewcollinsangler but in the end, it is whatever works for you, I use braid nowadays as you don't get line twist from it and you do get better bite indication as well as there is no stretch from the line, but it is a bit scary at first playing fish on braid as you feel every movement of the fish. I'm thinking of going back on to the mono line for a while as a water I want to fish has banned braid so I'm going to have to go back to using the old spin doctor again haha
I'm sure, I just lost faith in it and found my own method. In the right hands braid is a good choice as it offers many advantages as you know. I use it myself when fishing at range or river carping (best I've used so far is Spiderwire Stealth smooth 8 moss green). It's banned at my own lake as in the wrong hands it can do horrendous damage to fish. In my job I meet hundreds of anglers and see loads of gear, some good, some bad. We have also done our own testing of many mainlines. In our tests Berkeley Big Game was the best choice, some leading brands performed very badly! For max distance I’d try 10 - 12lb with a leader, for general work 15 - 20lbs. For rocky bottoms or catfish, use 25lb minimum. All the best with your fishing. Cheers, Matt.

Hi Ian, thanks for commenting. I did try one many years ago. The problem is that you have absolutely no idea how many casts to make with one. Is it 1, is it 6, is it 20? Maybe you start off with three and before you know it, you've put a load of twist in the line the other way. Maybe someone out there has worked out a reliable method but personally for me it was just another angling gadget that I bought, tried and never used again. It's another reason why I'm a big fan of bulk spools of Big Game rather than the branded carp lines. I know a number of top guys that remain under the radar and that's all they use for mainline and hooklink. It's still the best carp line money can buy and for £25 quid you'll get approx 2500m which can be changed regularly. That'll keep you fishing effectively and keep the costs down even if you're doing 50 + nights a year lol. Hope that helps. Cheers, Matt.
Easy to tell really, 3 casts should be enough. When you reel in, let the lead hang from the rod tip in front of you, the twist is gone when the lead stops spinning.
To take the line off , get a drill and drill bit , pack out the bit with tape until an empty bulk spool fits tightly over the top and then drill it off , you can do 3 at once still and its easier to dispose of
Thanks Leon, that's a good tip, also works with a toilet roll pushed over the chuck of a drill.
Mat I'm going for the 15 lbs nash bullet for my mags I was wondering what spacers do you recommend I used the 3500 for the flurocarbon will that be ok for the bullet I'm not a fan of filling a spool from nothing
That doesn’t sound quite right mate unless the fluoro you’re using is very thin. The 3500 spacers will hold 200m of 0.20 line. The 15lb Nash Bullet is 0.37 so you can only load 58m which is nothing. If you use the 6000 spacer, it will hold 215m of 0.37 mono.

So everytime we get a run on big pit reels with no bait runner we will get twists,unavoidable isn't it... I used to walk my lines out tie a loop in the end then place over a bank stick and stretch my line out. Helped on cast when using fluro I found.

Braid is a lot less fussy than mono. It’s also hydrophobic so wetting it before loading won’t make any difference. Just get a pencil and ask a friend to hold either end of it. Wind it on dry through your fingers so it goes on under tension otherwise you’ll have all sorts of trouble. Don’t wind too fast our you’ll burn/cut yourself. I’ll do a video on this at some point. Hi mate, that’s a dream combo man, I’d like some 5500s myself lol. For the last two years I’ve been using the Nash bullet in 20lbs and 10lbs. The first thing I’d say is that 10lb or 12lb mainline on short rods works really well. I can hit 90 yards with a baited rig on my 3lb Dwarfs easily and I can’t bait up further than that without a boat lol. The 10lbs is 0.28 and that’s quite fine. I’d go for the 12lbs Bullet, it will give you a bit more margin for error in your knots too. I use a 5-7 turn uni knot for connecting to a Cling-on leader or a simple blood knot when tying to a swivel. Test every knot to make sure it’s secure.
On the alarm front I was a Delkim man for years but I’ve moved over to the R3s last year and I wouldn't swap back for any money! No more false beeps, no change of sensitivity from dry to wet conditions and you’ll never miss a bite! I use setting 1 for rivers, 2 for the lake and 3 for smaller, shy biting species. You might be able to pick up a used set of R3s. They are bullet proof so a good used option IMO. Nash also does a lower cost option (S5R) that might be worth looking at. Their bank sticks are quality too. No frills but well made 12” and 15” cover most of my needs and much more flexible than any rod pod. Hope that helps, Cheers, Matt.

@@sp1m368 yes mate I would unless the water states 15lb min but tbh at 0.33 the 12lb version is the same thickness as some 15lb lines so breaking strain is quite meaningless really. The 12lb will cast great and be strong enough. I banked a 35lb mirror over Christmas on 10lb Nash bullet mainline and hooklink so it's strong stuff if knotted with care :)

I’ve gone an ordered a bench top spool tool thing but I’ve come to CZcams to find videos on spooling up and noticed no one uses them is there a reason for that or is it just because Nash and fox don’t sell them ?
Hi Dan, I'm aware that these exist but to be honest I just don't see their value. If you watch my video on how to spool a Shimano Ultegra 14000 xtd/xtc (czcams.com/video/9zP5SIjt9oA/video.html) you'll see that I make a very simple spooling jig from a bucket and a piece of dowel. The most important thing is that you keep the line wet when spooling up so if that tool enables you to do that, then great 😊
Great video matt would this be the same with fluorocarbon??I'm using the berkley cf600 and I'm starting to get line twist I'm sure I spooled it up right was told to make sure it comes of label side anticlock wise but when I opened it I found it to come of anti clock wise label face down so I the bucket with water and on the reel and after a few trips it's started twisting.i try and back wind as much as I can.and avoid using the clutch when setting my bobbins any help would be great matt starting to fo my head in 🙈🤣

Hi Esmin, to be honest it’s six years since I spooled up with fluorocarbon as it’s not the right line for the lakes and rivers I fish. I used 20lb Tigerline in the past and If I remember correctly I used exactly the same method as I describe in the video. With fluorocarbon there is extra maintenance work to be done to keep it fishing well. Firstly you need to clean it regularly by winding it through a damp cloth or a dedicated line wipe as it seems to pick up dirt more than mono. Secondly, because it hugs the bottom and flows over contours, it picks up damage in the form of little nicks and cuts very easily. At my own lake we have lots of super hard and sharp gravel bars and when you add 100lb catfish into the mix one nick can cost you a fish. I ended up inspecting the line for damage every 24hrs during a session because of this. If the lakes you fish are snag free, clean silt bowls, then you’ll have few issues. Thirdly, fluorocarbon needs a really good stretch every now and again to keep it in peak condition. I used to walk out my lines for 100 yards or so, tie them off to a post and give them a proper tug. I've been fishing for around 15 years and not heard of this. It might be because I'm mainly self taught. The lake I'm fishing at the moment unfortunately has a fair few snags in it, but they have removed some, and will be removing more in the winter months, when water clarity has improved. It's mainly silty. It's not to deep and doesn't have any cat fish present. Would you say my choice of fluorocarbon is incorrect?

To be honest only a season on the water will answer your question one way or the other. Every lake is different and on large lakes and rivers every swim is different! I have different mainlines for different swims and venues, different lead setups, different rigs.... If you’ve invested in fluorocarbon then you may as well fish with it. I currently don’t fish any venues where fluorocarbon is the right choice but a friend of mine owns a silt bowl of a lake where getting a take on anything else is tough apparently. Hope this helps. This would be for any other water that would require it. I think with the current water I'm fishing, I will stick with the fluorocarbon, and see how I go. I will be more mindful of its performance and start maintaining it, to extend its life.
Ive never been so confident using that Berkeley line. Have u had any problems casting a far distance due to the thickness in diameter of the line, really trying to find another carp line
Hi mate, thanks for commenting and glad you like the Berkeley. I use 25lb (0.48) Big Game for short range work up to 70 yards on my own lake as it's very rocky. For general carp fishing (up to 100 yards over normal silty bottom with a bit of gravel), I'd use the 15lb version (0.35). For max casting distance you can drop to 12lbs or even 10lbs Big Game but use a mono leader with it. The 25lb Big Game makes a great leader material (use 5m min) to absorb the force of casting a big lead a long way. Berkeley also make dedicated mono leader material which is also excellent. It's important to properly connect the two materials together. I put my faith in the albright knot. Fold the thicker material in two to form the loop then whip the thinner over the top. By the way I don't work for Berkeley or earn commission, I buy it with my own money and use it because it's good stuff and actually does what I need it to :) All the best with your fishing, Cheers, Matt.

Sounds like the line is dry to me mate. I’d chuck the spool in a bucket of cold water for a few hours or overnight that should help. Don’t add detergent, don’t warm the water. You don’t want to suck the grease out of your drag washers. You can also try my trick of putting a wet sweatband over the spool to keep the moisture in. My spools have gone quite curly this week. Wow, that's heavy, should be fine. Loading tension should be proportional to lead size rather than line rating: big leads, more tension.
@@matthewcollinsangler thanks bro, I've been getting smoked off the wall, I've got 50lb braid and running a meter of 60lb leader and I've still been getting smoked even when I have the drag set to let it run and then I tighten a little to bring it in and when it runs again I loosen a little more and then start winding it in but I just get smoked quite a few times, I think it's a big dew fish
@@TheNomadicTravellerAu I’m not familiar with the term smoked lol. Are you getting bust up (as we would say?) I had no idea you were talking about braid. 50lbs braid is not that strong and it’s so fine it will pull into the line below it on the spool which can lead to premature failure. I’ve bust 40lbs braid on a cast but I was hitting 120m (when it went well lol.) When the going gets tough when I’m fishing for big carp in weir pools I need very strong braid so I use 95lb Spiderwire. It's 0.35 mm diameter which makes it a much more robust choice but I can still hit the distance I need. What matters is the line diameter not so much the rated braking strain. 1m of 60lb mono is very short, I use at least 6m to absorb the powerful lunges of big fish.
What line do you rate for carp up to 50lb in the uk is where I fish I do use a bait boat at times but also cast too I've got some fox fluro on atm it's about ready and tbf I've had nothing but trouble with it even now it's still so springy I used to use there exocet line and also the korda subline what would you recommend I'm going to steer away from flurocarbon this time around cheers
Hi mate, yes fluorocarbon coated lines will always tend to be springy and that’s why I don’t use them. Since 2020 I’ve only used the Nash Bullet. My go-to choice is the 12lbs (0.33) version. I use it at the lake where I fished for 30s,40s & 50s and for my river carping and large public reservoirs where I need to cast a good distance. It’s strongest when tied directly to a lead free leader material such as the Nash Cling-on (40lbs) using a 5 turn uni knot. I have difficulty pulling for a break straight from the reel and have to wrap it around a bankstick. It's that good! I also use it with a mono shock/snag leader such as the 30lbs Nash HD version. It casts like a dream, and is very abrasion resistant. I use the 20lb (0.40) version for the catfish which run to 135lbs. The only complaint I have about it is that it does go curly under repeated casting loads especially when used without a leader. It’s more of a cosmetic thing really. It doesn't actually affect its performance. When it gets too unsightly I just cut a few metres off and it’s all good. @@thecarpfather5757 I know exactly what you mean about rattling through the rings! You can literally feel the yards being sucked out of the cast lol. I used to be obsessed with slacklining especially at my estate lake but TBH I mostly fish really light 15g Nash back leads. I slide them out at 6m or so so they don’t create a sharp angle between the line and the rod tip which will compromise bite indication. I use the 12lb Bullet straight down to 1m of the cling-on leader. The biggest edge you bring when targeting pressured carp is to use a running lead. Nash is launching a new run clip soon which I tested extensively last season. There'll be a video out when the product has been launched which explains how it works. I still occasionally fish the Bullet in the classic slackline manner, especially if I’m dropping a trap under my feet. It sinks okay. Obviously it’s not like a fluoro with an SG of 1.7 but it’s totally usable.

should the line allways be attached at the bottom of the spool ?
Hi mate, thanks for commenting. If you have deep spools or if you are fishing at short range it's not going to make much difference. If you're looking to do the best job possible that will cope with a whole range of fishing situations, then yes it's better to attach at the bottom. If you attach at the top of the spool, the knot will create a slight bump that gets transferred up through the coils as you fill the spool. A bump at the bottom causes less trouble than a bump at the top, especially when filling spools to the max for fishing at long range. Hope that helps. Cheers, Matt.

I have used my reels in over about 9 months they line is twisted in mono am i best off just respooling new line?
Yes mate absolutely, I change my line at least once per year and some spools that see regular action get re-spooled 2 to 3 times.
After watching this I have realised i have done everything wrong lmao. I would pull line off the clutch all day haha looks like a re-spool is in order
