On service-level yeah. But if you really think about it she’s definitely talking about the music industry. She’s a cookie in the video because the record labels are trying to make her cookie cutter artist. She’s literally a product they are making. The lyrics are taking about being overworked and overwhelmed. Then at the end she gets eaten alive which means how record labels use people till they aren’t wanted by the public anymore.

Rokhopper987cp yeah I think she’s not fully saying it’s about the music industry because she’s signed to a record label. In the a interview Melanie says she got fired four days after working at the bakery meaning the bakery jobs wasn’t so important to her. I think she’s putting that as a front.

Melanie Martinez is truly unique. Whenever you see her songs, you see creativity, imagination, and sometimes creepy. But there is always a deeper meaning in her songs, whether it is sad, happy, or just mentioning how she truly felt in a situation. Melanie Martinez creates her own world, those bunnies you see there, are there because they where her group when she worked at the Bakery. Not only that, but her songs connect. That’s why it’s best to start at the beginning, I’d say it’s best to start off with the song “Dollhouse,” her world starts off with her in an abusive family. Anyway, besides her other songs, talking about this song in general, in the beginning, you see a vehicle pass by, but in that vehicle, you see a wolf, which also connects to a song she made called “Tag your it,” which is mentioning human trafficking. You can also see the posters at the left side of the bakery which says “BLM” “Defund the Police” and “No Pigs Allowed.” Little details like these, aren’t worth losing. Then when you see the woman walking with the cookie back inside her house, she is referred to as “Mary” in the song, and she was the abusive boss, so when you see her cutting the cookie, that’s just Melanie’s visual of how she felt her Boss treating her, aka “Mary.” She was apparently abusive, and hurtful. And if you didn’t focus to much on the way Melanie looked and how she danced, you can see cupcakes on the walls that are referencing her dolls. In the scene where Melanie’s face was widening, it was her being subconscious. And the blood in her mouth was referencing another song she named “Mad Hatter.” And the last part of the video of how she was acting after she shoved the sword into her mouth, was to demonstrate how crazy she went, how much pain she felt, that she wanted to end it. So yeah, Melanie is more then just a good singer, and dancer. Her songs are like stories, but those short lines, makes you think deeply about the way someone actually feels. Her songs talk about real life problems. Situations you just have to face. You have to overcome them. Melanie is just a human like us after all. We all have our moments where we were hurt, physically, mentally, or emotionally.

Melanie Martinez is a very unique and talented artist. You can never compare her to any other artist. To understand her work you have to go back to her first EP called the“Dollhouse EP”. After that you go to her Debut Album “Cry Baby”. Crybaby is an album full of songs we can relate to that we deal with in our personal lives. When you buy the album it comes with a Story book, the story is about a character named Cry Baby, and crybaby goes through things that makes her go insane and makes her sad, but at the end, it makes her who she is and she falls in love with the person she’s become and grown into. She has directed music videos to the album and she plays the Character Cry Baby and they’re all connected so you have to watch them in order. Then she released “Crybaby’s Extra Clutter EP”
Next you have K-12. The second album which comes with a movie she’s written and directed. In this album she sings about the things that go on outside of our personal lives, the things we deal with in society. And it’s a continuation of Cry Baby’s story. Crybaby is going to school she meets friends, they plan to escape the school because it is so corrupted like the government. She uses a lot of metaphors within her lyrics and visuals so you have to pay attention to that. Last but not least is her latest “After School EP”
She’s only writing songs to help people heal in some way, to help them understand what life is all about. She’s not in it to release singles and win awards. She an artist who sings about topics other artists don’t. That’s what makes her unique and her imagination when it comes to visuals is very talented and wild. And every album she puts out has a theme. Looking at the titles of the albums and aesthetics you’ll notice it.
And The Bakery is about how she got fired at a bakery she used to work at after school.

Ok. This song is based (partly) on her experience working at a bakery as a teen. BUT BUT BUT its also about how producers and managers "cut into" their artists creativity and squeeze as much as they can to make more dough. Hence, starting at a bakery, being turned into literal dough, baked, packaged and then having all of the jelly (her soul and creativity) spill out! Hope this helps!

this song is about Melanie being fired from her bakery job in high school, to save up for her music, and now I will walk you through on the lyrics, what they mean or what I think they mean, "Pack it, box it flip it top it, with a bow tie ribbon, stop it, eating all the rainbow cookies, pies are flying through the roof" Meaning how she baked the stuff. "Not my first pick, but I'll do it, make the cash rise, stop em, move quick, out this shithole with a new whip, cream on top, and boutta prove it," , meaning, when she started the job, everything was fine and dandy, and the bakery job wasn't her first choice as a job, but she did it anyway, and since she was new, SHE WAS MAKIN ALL THAT CASH BOOOOOOOI. "bla bla, pack it box it, we already explained this, moving on "My boss says, mother Mary, catch me slippin through the concrete, show now mercy step right on me, little dab, send me to pergatory," Meaning, at first, all the other people, her boss was being mean to, but she was "slippin through the concrete, but then, the boss started to turn on her *as the boss did with everyone else there* "The bakery, tryna make some more, they expect me, to stay when I should go, grab the bag, for when they cross the door, it ain't for me to roll, it's bringin stress, for me to raise the door, " Pretty self explainitory, but I'll explain it anyway. when Melanie was about to go, the boss would say something like "Oh, your doing so good, please stay and work," Even tough the boss was being mean to her, that was the only time she was nice, and she had to already grab a bag, for when someone came in, because everyone that came in always bought something, but it brought stress. "pack it box it bla bla," "all the cherys, the way they all go, knock em down like, she your dodge ball, little mess up and she's angry, one downfall, she blames the whole team," saying, every time Melanie messed up, the boss would scream at everyone. "PACK BOX FLIP BLA," "THE BAKE YOUR... I'M NOT A PEICE OF CAKE! WAIT SHE'S STILL SINGING THE CHORUS WTF!?"

It's not "jUsT aBoUt A bAkErY" like everyone is saying, it's about working any job where you are just taken for granted, over worked and under appreciated. It's about just doing it while you have to, to make the money to support your real dreams before you dip "not my first pick, but I'll do it, make the cash right so I can move quick out this shit hole in the new whip, cream on top, I'm about to prove it" ... "it aint for me to roll it out, it's just for me to raise the dough". Some even think it's related to her experience in the music industry, being treated wrong.
In the video Melanie was being abused by literally being baked into dough, and the 'pure old christian lady' was the one who bought her and cut her up alive and ate her while she bled jelly. Which I see as commentary on how the most outwardly pure people are sometimes the worst people. Also the lyrics say "my boss is Mother Mary, catch me slipping through the concrete. Show no mercy, step right on me, stiletto death, send me to purgatory"

It's basically about unenthusiastically working at a bakery (thats her own experience), but it can really relate to anyone unenthusiastically working at a job they don't want to be at, but they do it just to make the money. It can also relate to her record label and her feeling like a product, but the gist of the song is working somewhere you know you won't stay at, but it's purely to "raise the dough"

“The Bakery” is based on a job Melanie Martinez had in high school. As the title implies, she did in fact work in a bakery. In the first verse she lets it be known that she enjoyed it a bit, being able to partake of some of its sweet products. But her inspiration was to make enough dough to transcend ‘that sh***ole’ in style. More specifically, Melanie has stated on social media that she was using the job to fund her artistic pursuits. And the reason she hated the place, as the second and third verses reveal, is because she had an oppressive, nitpicking boss. So ultimately she lost her enthusiasm and was compelled to leave the bakery.
    (Found this hope it helps)

In her song the gingerbread she does say a line close to “my heart bleeds jelly” so I get it all of her songs are usually about a character named crybaby who goes through a lot of real world problems she has three albums now (one is also a move) and a lot of other stuff . I don’t know much about her but she was on the voice and won. She’s also Latina

Melanie Martínez use to work at a bakery as a part time job to save money to put towards her music career. They expect her to stay but she wants to move on within her occupation. Her boss is strict as implied in the lyrics one messed up though she blamed the whole team. I think the song is just being about being used and wanting to get out of a shit hole 👏🏻

You should listen to the k-12 album, which is actually from her movie (K-12). It's AMAZING. The mvs are short because the scenes continue in the movie, everyone gets that wrong

This song is from 'After School EP', who it's a personal work from her. She actually has two albums in storytelling style. The first one has music videos for all the songs, and you have to watch in order, 'Cry Baby', and the second one has a full Movie with story and songs, 'K-12". Have fun reacting to it

“It ain’t for me to roll it out, it’s just for me to raise the dough” I like to think of this metaphor of her being the one bringing in the money for her industry, being seen as a product instead of a hard worker within the music industry.
