- What are your options if you are female and want to wear the kilt?
Do you have to wear a kilted skirt? Or can you wear a traditional men's kilt?
Is it a matter of tradition or good taste or simply fashion?

Just saw a home movie of then Princess Elizabeth (now QE II) and Princess Margaret both wearing black watch kilts constructed in the military style at mid knee. No sporran or belt, just a sweater and penny loafers. Looked great. Good enough endorsement for me to wear mid knee.
As a Portuguese born in the 70s I wore at least two skirts that were identical in color and shape to a man’s Scottish kilt. It hit at the knee and even had a metal pin to close it. It was my favorite skirt. Not quite sure why it was a trend in Portugal or if it has always been a trend, the kilt skirts. We do have men that play the bagpipes and wear “kilts” as well and our DNA shows traces of Scottish and Irish too. In my case 4% and 7% in that order. I would assume there is some connection. But many other cultures have men wearing “skirts” and also playing some variation of bagpipes…

Sporrans. I think a case can be made that the hallmark of a man wearing a kilt, as opposed to a woman wearing a skirt, is that a man wears a sporran.
What about a man wearing a "woman's" kilt??

Plenty of material out there on woman wearing men's kilts but not much on guys wearing a woman's kilt.
If a guy would wear a womans kilt but not for a girly look but still look manly how would that be looked at?

Since it’s part of a uniform, they SHOULD wear the traditional mid-knee kilt and sporan.

No I don't think a woman should wear men's kilt it's fine if a woman wants to wear a tartan dress or something but not a kilt
So I guess women should stop wearing pants or suits too?? Really?? There are women who are not comfortable in women’s fashions. Some women don’t carry purses. Women should be allowed to wear the traditional mid knee kilt. And if you wear such kilt, where do you carry your keys and cell phone? In a sporan!
Heck! Men carry purses (man bags), wear buns, and earrings. Should we make them stop because those things are traditionally female? Someone is living in the dark ages.
Women look great in kilts, short, knee length or long. Kilts are suitable for men and women. Amen.
