Com-bridge - construction of a bridge made of FRP composites

  • The documentary presents realization of project „Com-bridge - An innovative bridge made of FRP composites”. In 2015 r. Mostostal Warszawa S.A. constructed the first Polish road bridge made of FRP composites. It is the longest single-span bridge of its kind in the world.

    The construction of the bridge has been a part of the Com-bridge research project, co-financed by the National Centre of Research and Development's programme supporting scientific research and development activities on demonstration scale.

    This purely amazing, I am currently working with glass and carbon fiber composite material for wrapping the structural members but the level of precision achieved via Vaccum process is truly remarkable

    Composites are the future. I think the work of Mastostal should be the benchmark. One has to leverage this technology and keep improving on. The scope is immense for application composites as structural products. of course there might be drawbacks as the structure ages and if we arrive at a technology to contain the degradation, the sky is the limit for application of structural composites

    Worker not wearing a respirator when cutting with diamond saw. Has to be competitive with the cost of steel. Fabrication of the composite presently seems to be very time consuming. What is the life of the resin? Prototype looks small which is probably actually good, unlike the FIU experimental structure which was radically over-sized.

    Are you using a FRP Rebar instead of Steel Rebar in concrete pouring mix?

      No. It was "typical" concrete made on light aggregate. However, in our second composite bridge (czcams.com/video/tFcOQ8R7l30/video.html), dispersed reinforcement was used in the sidewalk.

      First frequency of natural vibrations was 3.55 Hz (FEM model). I will try to find the measured value...
