I usually agree with you but have to respectfully disagree this time. I love this race. The tunnel is a bit of beast, and the GPS did go off a bit. However we wanted sub 1.50 today and did exactly that and was bang on. Love running over Tower Bridge and the final km into Greenwich with the Cutty Sark. I thought bag collection was really swift too at the end. Like the medal. Plus we got a t shirt which fits well. Unlike Hackney and Asics which we didn't even get one for. The meet up at the end as always is epic with the Fordys 😀

Got to agree with what you're saying. Running over tower bridge plus the pro athletes Running in same event. Met some lovely people before during and after the race. Didn't hit target of sub hr 50 but enjoyed experience. Downside wanted more water at the end.. Will.do.it again if I get the chance. Respect due to fordy giving his opinion.

Great Vlog Guys and Girls, have to agree that was a tough one with little to no crowds. Had to really push myself mentally to get the PB I'd been working towards. Awesome Fordys at the end with the medals made it a really special one 👏

Great Vlog Fordy and the all Fordy team!! As always! And in my opinion, a pretty spot on round up of the event. I’m glad you posted this because I finished that race yesterday feeling so deflated (even cried in the toilets afterwards🤪). I totally agree with all of your comments. That Tunnel! gps carnage - pacing out of whack! Cobbles! More cobbles! Water stations in the wrong place! Especially the mile 10 one which I sure was more like mile 11 (that killed me completely). Dull route, very little crowd support. And then the bonus mile we had to walk to get the T-shirt!😲🤷🏼♀️

Great effort chaps, this was my first organised Half Marathon so nothing to compare it to, but it's nice to know that things can only get better from this one! The ridiculous walk for a tee at the end really left a bitter taste. Could not for the life of my fathom why that was necessary. Also don't know if this is normal but putting a Lucozade station right where you're flagging is a great idea in theory, but making everyone's feet stick to the road when they're having enough trouble lifting their feet could be reconsidered!...
Having said all that, was a great feeling sprinting (relatively) to the finish past Cutty Sark and really keen to start looking at more halves or even a marathon in the future.
Onto the next one!

Good effort Chris! My watch didn't know if it was new york or new year coming thru Canary Wharf 🤣. Cobblestones in poplar were evil and the last push to Greenwich was more uphil than i thought plus a bugger of a headwind

Done the big half last year, it was my first HM and I was so excited, everything I had read said the atmosphere will be electric, the crowds will carry you... it was dead! thought I may have been unlucky but see your vid shows that no, londoners don't care, just another event with inconvenient road closures and the reviews at the end sum the event up perfectly, never again.
Doing my First GNR next Sunday, I'm lead to believe I'm in for a whole different experience from the Geordies 😃 waa aay man.

I live very near the start of this race, I went out on Saturday morning and I had no idea the race was going on. I only realised with the road closures, I did go out to support but the publicity to let people know that this was going on was little to none.

Ran this one last year & the crowd support was quite good, don’t remember having to walk a mile-ish to get the t-shirt tho? Not sure as can’t remember. Some dull parts before you hit the last mile. Running over Tower Bridge was nice since this was before I did LM.
The tunnel is a little too much. Good finish at Cutty Sark. There was a ridiculously long walk for baggage I can remember & then finding a toilet or somewhere to change. Ended up changing in the trees somewhere 😂.
Good medal & tee tho.

I did it last year and loved it but it was my first ever race so that may be why. The course support was dead then too but I figured that was because of Covid, guess not! Don't remember the cobbles being an issue.

I was entered but unfortunately couldn't make it because of trains. So I improvised and did The Pompey Big Half. No cobbles and no tunnel. 1h 43 so pleased. Perhaps we could start a new event.

Today I had the Bridgwater (Somerset) Half... a well organised event on roads (not closed to traffic but quiet) it went *okay ish* for me. Harder work than it should have been, I certainly felt *old* during some of it - there was an out + back part towards the end... a couple of miles but it went on + on + on🙄

Yeah the course was tough. Limehouse tunnel was the worst, horrific in today's temperatures, & the cobbles/setts on Narrow Street nasty too. Didn't they used to put a cushioning mat over them, or only for the mara? More inclined than I was expecting also.

Love your work, but I love this run (plus I got a 23min PB). Support seemed quieter than last year? but was still enough. Plus so many Fordies on and off the course, which meant plenty of Oi Oi's!
Tunnel is a challenge and hot, but eats some distance. Then the smell near and along Narrow Street! 🤢 I had to keep checking I hadn't 💩 myself! I kept looking at the runners in front to see if any were running funny!! 😆
I lapped my watch at mile 6 to rectify the pacing due to the GPS issues around Canary Wharf; prior to that I just ran on feel and used elapsed time at each mile marker.
20miles this coming Sunday and then I'll be ready for the Big one in London 🤙
One improvement would be a puke trough at the end, I needed a spot to collapse as I crossed the line, and it was a challenge finding somewhere without a pavement pizza 😆

I enjoyed the event tbh, didn't mind the walk at the end as I'd rather keep moving slowly and cool down than come to a sudden dead stop, the GPS issues weren't ideal but there's nothing much they can do about it without massive re-routing. I'll probably run it again next year, solid 6 out of 10 I'd say.

I was up at 4am driving down from Brum for that. Felt like I had already done 3k from South bag drop to start line, then Garmin thought I had done a 23k race and then another 2k to get a tee shirt, which as tees go, it's rubbish. To top it off, my Fordy tee has sliced my nip to pieces, it was a right mess at the end, turned from sky blue to claret 😁. Didn't realize that there was that many Fordy volunteers at the finish either, that was quality. The course was not. At least I found a place to park for 3 quid all day (Canons Park tube) Not coming to London again 🤪

Same issue came out of the tunnel and it had given me an extra mile which messed up my pacing. Anyone know how to recover this on a Garmin if it happens again?
@@mister.myoung8601 not sure, I would like to know as well. It went weird for me in Canary Wharf, I was rolling along at about 6:30/M and all of a sudden my pace went to 10/M?!
@@vincewarne228 never had that at a race before but mine was all over the place, but was useless after the tunnel. Def ruined my planned pacing. Hope it was a one off
3/10 poor support, that tunnel & those b**ody cobbles! Everything you say is spot on! Did give you a shout from the other side so I may up it to a 4!

I thought the crowds were pump yesterday. Course is always brutal so the only reason you come for the big half are the crowds and atmosphere..... I should've found a local event 😂

Got to agree with you.
Watching it on the telly over the last few yrs and seeing the severe lack of support, the dull course and the cost, i wouldn't ever do this race.
Similar reason why I wouldn't do the ASICS 10k.
Apart from the London Marathon (which I've done 5 times), the only other race worth doing, in my opinion, is the Vitality 10k.

Have done 2 of their 'main' city races. A half and a 10k.
Reasonable prices, but they do suffer with support numbers, probably due to very early starts.

They never should have axed the North London Half for this and and London Landmarks. Never ran Landmarks as it's heavily over subscribed and charity orientated. Have ran the Big Half and don't rate it. North London Half around 2015/16 was a great race when they started it on Wembley Way and had a lap aroind the Allianz Stadium at halfway before finishing inside Wembley Stadium, it had pretty good support on parts of the route from what I remember too.
London Marathon a good race but far from the best Marathon in the world (as they like to claim) I would say.
Like the channel Fordy, however you seem afraid to actually run for a PB, don't be afraid to push the limits!

I try to use either a Pace Pocket or I set my watch to manual lap rather than Auto, that way as I hit the mile markers I know what pace I’ve run the last mile in …. Stupid London and it’s high buildings and tunnels!

A tad harsh there… they had loads of toilets. Other than that it looked completely un organised. I was spectating OH running but what I saw and heard about really wasn’t inspiring. Walked up to mile 8 from the start and they were still setting up shortly before the elite passed. Water stations weren’t where they should have been or were only giving out lucozade - chatting to marshals who had no clue what was going on and apparently no clear instruction from organisers, The wave starts didn’t happen despite constant warnings in race pack and over tannoys on the day that you had to adhere to a fixed time - OH arrived at the start in time for her scheduled wave and there were only a handful of runners waiting around, wondering what was going on and hoping to run with pacers who had already left, so, no boost from a group start.

Totally agree, awful race what about the stink from the drains 🤢 not just the tunnel, cobblestones, lack of water and a trek to get a t-shirt. Won't be doing it again!

Have you seen Asics 10k or Landmarks or southend half oh and have you seen some of the other videos with ratings of 8? or you just moaning about this one ..... of course you don't have to watch it's upto you ... have fun and enjoy your running
