Well... Brazil has tons of german speakers because in the 1800s there where a lot of germans( also italians,Portuguese and spanish) who imigraded to Brazil( because they where cheap labor and the government wanted to make the country "more white skined").
The Brazilians with german ancestry are mainly found in the south specialty in the estate of Rio Grande do Sul, and its basically a minature Germany there.
Also the no-no germans.
This idea of Brazil getting Europeans to whitenize the country, it’s only particularly true, it’s true that once the country ended up slavery, they had to be faced to the problem that more than 50% of the country was black or pardo (black + white + indian), and so whiting the country would be a desirable thing, it’s also true that in 1888 when the slavery ended, only 770 mil people were still slaves, less than 5%, so Brazilians were already used to the fact to living among free blacks and pardos. The fact that they decided to import Japanese and not only Europeans only prooves they they focus wasn’t enough on whiting the country but into getting more workers for the booming economy during the coffee times
Also in rural areas of the Brazilian South, German was the main language for many communities until the Vargas Era up to Military Coup Era, my father born in 1966 was only able to speak German until his 6 years of age, only in the school he learnt to speak Portuguese.
7:23 I feel so called out it's unbelievable. I scored 100% on my basic English exam, 86% on advanced English, and 67% on Polish. If it weren't for the compulsory literatures, maybe the score would've been higher, but I couldn't bother myself with reading anything more than summaries.

northerner and it's so true, literally the whole official language exam in school was just shitass essay, english is a proper exam that tests all skills and if you're chronically online you just can't get anything lower than 80. though my english result was lower than official, 87 and 89 respectively
@@therewasoldcringe Those goddamn essays were migraine-inducing, I've found a topic of mine that goes:
"Longing - a force that destroys or builds human life? Consider the problem and justify your opinion by referring to a fragment of "Lalka", the entire novel by Bolesław Prus, and a selected cultural text. Your work should be at least 250 words"
I still have nightmares from shitton of essays, but they slowly fade.

For context, the Spanish 'occupied' territories were 'occupied' before America was discovered and before Spain, France or anybody had colonies
This, also Gibraltar is classified as a disputed territory by the UN, Ceuta and Melilla so far aren't
Exactly
Yup. Ceuta and Melilla were founded by Spaniards before there even was a Morocco. They were built by Spaniards for Spaniards. By contrast Gibraltar was ripped off of a very established Spain, built by Spaniards and stolen by Brits.
Well to be fair, Morocco's territory back then was governed by the Sultanate that preceded the Saadis. So Morocco didn't exist, but Morocco claims to be the heir of that territory? Or something close to that. Either way, by that logic, they should claim all of Al Andalus as their own as well, which they don't, because deep down they know their claims are ridicolous @@robofreak11
Africans aren’t entitled to any land in the other side of the ocean, only the land they once conquered, since morrocans never conquered that part of Africa it still belongs to its rightful owner Spain, just like Argentine doesn’t automatically own Falkland’s just because it’s closer to their territory than to England.

Fun fact Czechoslovakia had for some time same flag as Poland

3:14 In Poland school system you will have maths and Polish and English language until you 18-20 (depending to what kind of high school you go). It is more surprising to me that there are countries where you do not study your native language and maths until you are at least 18.
In France we stop studying French at 17 (except those who choose to continue). Maths could be stopped a 16 but it recently (this year) came back as a compulsory course in high school until 18. Not at a very high level though. If you want to pursue a scientific degree you must take more advanced maths.
Again something that is surprisingly the same with our Polish neighbours.

Just feeling the need to inform that gibraltar is not the same as Ceuta and Melilla. As spain didn't take them from Morocco like the uk took Gibraltar from the Spanish. Instead Morocco took everything around the cities and Spain kept the cities
8:35 wtf was that sound 🤣🤣
People should learn a little bit about brazilian history before saying that Brazil has so many german speakers because of WWII. The most part of german speakers came for the colonization of the South and southeast of Brazil since 1830 until early 20th century, along with Italians and other nationalities

0:25 US vs China probably wouldn't trigger Article 5 since China's navy can't cross the pacific, so the only way the US could get into a defensive war where NATO applies is if Taiwan gets invaded, but even then many could argue it doesn't count since Taiwan isn't in NATO and the US is only choosing to support them, not obligated by a treaty.

It's based in Japanese, the meme creator just can't tell the difference. Which is hilarious because they literally broke Hirohito's imperial subjects with nukes, so they could buy off the population from Hirohito at half price.
That being exactly the kind of thing like trying to buy green uniforms through Alibaba and getting blue ones, because mostly USA got a bunch of real cheap labor FROM the Chinese and Koreans.

6:36 This one didn't work as well because they really made it obvious with the omurice and Japanese curry. Like they're so distinctive. Even looking at the fried cutlet and the hamburg steak they're just made the Japanese way. I'm French and I know very well this ain't how we cook cutlets. Only the last two could give you some doubt as to their provenance.
You could go to Japan as a tourist, go to one restaurant and you literally eat the exact food in the picture (even better looking I'd argue).
When it comes to actual maps of the Holy Roman Empire, we always have to consider that it was actually much WORSE. These Maps are representations of "dominant influence" of certain nobility. That does not mean that these were borders of actual states in the sense of nations we have today, or even dukedoms or something. Within these HRE "marked territories", we have a conglomerate of rights concerning every field, windmill, river, dwelling, cottage etc. which could on these Maps be represented for example as "Habsburgian", but if you dig into the documents you could discover that in this territory a 1/3 may belong to another nobel family, it is just represented as "Habsburgian" on the map because some more of the accumulated "rights" were held by a Habsburgian nobility (as a certain time and age, which could vary depending on marriages and death from day to day)

There is a bit of a trick with Portugal not being hated by all its former colonies. They are a really small country and they never had the population to run these colonies, they mostly got on decent terms with parts of the native population and made these guys do the heavy work. Favorable trade, military assistance in local conflicts and a generous dose of corruption was enough to have people want to be a part of the portuguese empire. The fact the portuguese had some of the earliest trade routes to everywhere which also made them into the first worldwide disease vectors since migrating birds causing mass epidemics that eliminated way more natives than they could ever kill by shooting was a small contributing factor.
7:22 Lol. That's so real but maybe because English exams are so easy compared to our native languages. When I was leaving primary school I got 100% from the English exam while not even speaking it that well and only like 30-50 something % for my native language.
In Florida we have to do English up until age 18 (we can however take classes online over the summer if we wish though if you're in high school).
