It just doesn't even bother shooting at you. You're walking down a corridor and a drone about as wide as the corridor just rockets through it, destroying you completely.
I'm imagining a convoy rolling up to a canyon, only for the lead vehicle to stop as they see a rover graveyard scattered between the cliffs. Would be great for a RP server or something.
remember the doof rule: sometimes a self destruct button is a good idea. make every unit have a remote control who's only task is to detonate a warhead/depower the drones/detach the battery. seems like it could get slotted into the thruster gap
You approach the small outpost of new players, you don’t see any signals but that shouldn’t matter. Free loot is free loot after all. Suddenly the tops of each home bursts off, a drone rising from each home. It’s too late to escape, and your rover is quickly shredded.
just imagine an enemy convoy of heavy armored vehicles passing through a place and several of these wake up jumping in the sky decimating several of the cars next to you in seconds as they try to flee
I always love the idea of drones in general. Think you could make a space drone fighter or bomber that can fight alongside me when I’m lonely in my fleet?
@@tael3081 Using a remote control block or two it could operate on waypoints to raise, patrol, fire on anything it sees, return to a location, descend and lock into a resting position, I don't think it would need a script at all if done right. @@Neuralatrophy You could theoretically set up a timer-system linked to a remote control to try and put it back, but you'd need to turn off the turret controller any time it was supposed to do anything other than sit in place. RC-autopilot always tries to fly "nose-first, top-up", and does not adapt well, it would probably crash if it had to fight the turret-controller.
btw, try adding partial forward thrust override upon target acquisition aswell as an altitude controller script , the resulting behavior is pretty interesting. They start 'swooping' targets like birds.
The drone uses a turret controller which only knows how to control rotors, so ive put a gyro set to override on a rotor and the gyro acts like a fixed point that the "turret" can rotate around
Yup drone is vanilla. Also I've already made a tutorial, it's called "Space Engineers - How to make drones with the new turret controller". It's just a few videos back I think
Two gyros set 90 degrees apart were for controlling the drone using the turret controller method before automaton blocks were added. Decoys on rotors were just to make it symmetrical.

Since its a small grid, counter would be a large grid with a couple turrets

Name suggestion for the rover: Le Brique
What happens when the target is destroyed/out of range? Can they go back home or is it a one time use sorta thing?
well the hole is most certainly wide enough for it to return without danger of running into the side and it has enough thrust to do so
that looks like a script-free drone, so it probably just floats in place until it runs out of power unless someone resets it manually.
