      Yes sir. My grandfather was. He was my hero and probably my best friend.

      What was his job there.

      He was a crew chief, but flew in the ball because of his size. He ended up being grounded after about 21 missions and was set to be sent home but wouldn't go. He stayed on as a mechanic through the conclusion of the war. We lost him in 2012 at the age of 90.

      Superb vid’. Love this airfield, enough of it’s left and accessible to be worth a visit. Did so twenty years ago when a ghostly control tower still existed in the middle of a farm field.
      Also walked in the woods where the bomb dump is (he flew over those woods).
      All told very peaceful place.
