In 1967 at 4:00am with a Marlboro in my hand driving in my 1965 Ford Falcon from Providence RI to Davisville, RI, I would crank up The Doors "Light My Fire" to start my morning.
In 1970 at 5:00am on my way from French Village, IL to Granite City, IL in my 1969 Mercury Cougar with a Marlboro in my hand I would crank up the The Doors "Roadhouse Blues."
Those solitary drives were the best part of my days.

The Doors are and most likely always will be, among my absolute favourite bands of all time but I don't think they are underappreciated. Neither then nor now. They have reached legendary status and even so many years after Jim's death they are still commonly known household names (almost) like Elvis, The Beatles or Jimy Hendrix. The difference being that they are (kind of understandably so) considered edgier / dirtier than any of those aforementioned. As much as I like The Beatles and love Elvis, even for his ballads, The Doors were way less conforming to the tastes of the masses and subsequently liked by a more limited amount of people. Still, they were superstars in their days and are absolute legends to this day.

I'd say arguably. I don't think there was one definitively "best band." I'd include The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Santana, The Who, The Allman Brothers, and Led Zeppelin in the uppermost pantheon of best rock artists. Anyone of these band can justifiably lay claim to being "The Best." But The Doors are unquestionably extraordinary musicians and composers. Morrison and his bandmates, with their sound, had no precedent. They, along with Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Santana, and others took rock into new, completely unchartered creative waters in the late 60's and early 70's!!!

I can go to concertd at any age, there isn't a certain age I need to be to be allowed at a concert unless it's age restricted. I went to concerts when I was 10+ so.. I'm sure I could've went to a Doors concert beyond that age.
