    I have a 2010 with the 2.5 and a 5 speed with around 100k kms. It’s been a great little car for me so far. It developed an occasional grind into gear (3rd in particular), but that was easily remedied by adjusting the cables. A quick, less than a half hour, job that I did myself with very basic tools.

    Luckily, I have a 2005 Seat Leon MK1 with the old and reliable 1.6 petrol engine BCB with 105 HP. Zero problems, zero oil consumption, zero repair costs. Only oil and filter changes. And the build quality is excellent. No rattling noises at all. VW group made excellent cars before 2005.

    I had late 2012 Golf 1.4 tsi 90kw 6 speed since new for 4 years and 100k km. Had clutch replaced at 30k km (factory installation issue) , control arm bushings and other misc suspension stuff. No problem with engine timing chain, however in cold it did sometimes refuse to start all 4 cylinders! When it was -15..-25, just normal North European winter, so I had to restart the car 3-5 times. Bear in mind I had done spark plug replacement according to spec and service did not found any anomalities. However worst part of the car was the super thin basic paintjob, even someone bumping into your door with shopping cart meant that paint was completely gone.
    Overall not too bad though, I did like that car, but I am never going back to VW products. I am now driving BMW F10, which is certainly not more reliable, but that is also expected from a bigger and more complex car.

    For daily use, an interesting option is the less powerful 1.4T with engine codes CAXA/CAXC (122/125). They show a good balance between performance, fuel consumption and durability. We own one of these MY2009 with 220k km. Issues as expected: preventive chain replacement (noisy starts) and coil packs (jerky acceleration). We would buy it again, it still runs strong.

    What is defined short distances with the 1.2 TSI engine.....a few 100mtr I understand, but is there a minimum that would be defined as a short distance? I drive daily 14km to and from work, with a few stoplights on the route. How will this affect the engine and the mix of fuel and oil?? Thank you

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 2 lety +3

      14km / day is short distance driving
      To put it simply: the main problem is that the engine oil is not gonna reach the operating temperature or maybe just at the end of your journey + when the engine is cold - more fuel is injected into the combustion chamber.
      In this "cold phase" the fuel slowly gets into oil since some of it is not gonna get burned and "leaks into the oil"-very slowly of course. This is usually not a problem because when the engine oil reaches operating temperature, then after some time of driving-most of the fuel evaporates from the oil. Now, if you drive short distances only, then the fuel can't evaporate from the oil. Of course this is not a huge amount, but after lets say a couple of weeks of driving like this you can sometimes even notice a very slight oil level raise because of the fuel.
      What to do? Well I would at least once a week go for a longer drive - at least 40 km and of course change the engine oil after max 8 000 km, this way you can prolong engine life even if you will use it as you use it now

    Hey mate, thank you so much for your videos it's saved me making a bad decision I nearly brought a Mk5 Golf 1.4 TSI GT. I have decided to go for a Mk6 2.0 TDI instead, the 110bhp version. What is the difference between this and the higher bhp version?

    • @differentcarreview-dcr
      @differentcarreview-dcr  Před 2 lety +5

      The 110 hp version doesn't have issues with the oil pump drive shaft which can be worn out
      The more powerful versions with 140 and 170 hp made to the end of 2009 which have CBAB or CBBB engine code can have the 77mm oil pump drive shaft worn after approx. 200 000 km. This will later cause loss of oil pressure which can kill the engine. All the newer 2.0 TDI engines with more than 140 hp made from 2010 have an updated 100 mm long shaft which is usually ok, but even this shaft can be worn-but just after approx. 400 000 km.
      other than this the reliability of these engines is the same

    Hello ! very informative video,
    i'm lookin to buy the twin charger 1.4 tsi 160 hp.
    I took the car to the vehicle inspection institute today, it has some leaks but the seller said he would fix it at his own expense
    Vehicle year 2010 with 66,000 kilometers
    First of all, does you think it makes sense to have such a low kilometer?
    Secondly, I wanted to know if it's worth buying it for you
    And I wanted to know at most how much it might cost me to repair the most critical things and is it a one-time repair or a recurring one?
    i hope you can answer me i really dont know what to do, its my first car and i love it, i just dont know how expensives and oftens can be the repairs
    thank you !

      Steer clear of the twincharger, fair chance the kms are low because it's been stuck at a mechanics for months on end. They really aren't worth the risk - buy a mk7 1.4 instead. They're far more reliable

      only on twincharger,
      but its still good to check the compression on the 122hp as well, since the piston rings can be more or less stuck / clogged with carbon
