So when Wille has a breakdown/anxiety/panic attacks, he just needs to get over it and his family will use his brother's death against him to force him to conform
... but when the Queen has a panic attack, everyone must scramble to take care of her, including her teenage son
And despite this she still has 0 sympathy for her son
I would love if Wille could just leave the monarchy behind, but honestly? At this point HE is the only hope the crown has for some progress. He needs to fix that shit from within, not leave it to his mother and August. A queer royal and future king will inevitably change the public's perspective on queer people.

Wait, I’m pretty sure the queen had Wille go to therapy when she realised he was having anxiety attacks? And she also said she wants him to come out on his own terms when he’s old enough to understand his position and how to handle the attention. I think we as viewers sometimes forget that Wille is still a child. I’m not saying she’s a good mother or anything, just that as much as Wille’s anxiety and panic attacks should be taken more seriously than they have been by her doesn’t negate the fact that her attacks should also be taken seriously? Also people keep saying “she used Erik’s death as a manipulation tool” but like… she wasn’t cunningly planning to use the argument, she was clearly building up into a panic attack and her eyes fell on Erik’s photo so it triggered her memories and I think perfectly natural thought process in that moment? She wasn’t looking around for an argument to control Wille she was emotionally reacting to the situation, which also includes the realisation for HER that Erik isn’t there. Is it shitty of her to bring it up? Yes! Is it unfair? Absolutely. But it’s clearly not a manipulative tactic, and I don’t think you can argue that person’s panic attack shouldn’t be taken seriously regardless of the circumstances. You’re arguing for her to have taken Wille more seriously, but yourself don’t think she deserves to be taken seriously? Man why I am I defending her I don’t even like her… 😅 … but just… doesn’t sit right how people are clearly misinterpreting her character’s motivations this season. Not saying they’re great. But they certainly do make sense. It just feels like a disservice to the writers and actress regarding this character.

@@nomadine85 I never said panic attacks shouldn't be taken seriously. Quite the opposite. You're just playing devil's advocate for some reason.
As you said, Wille is a CHILD. Yet he's expected to be responsible for his mother's mental and physical health. And at the same time he has to repress his own emotions and get over his own issues.
She had him go to therapy because he was rebelling and made a scene. Her first reaction was to pull him from the school. Her first reaction is ALWAYS to ignore her child's needs and emotions in order to save face.
Ffs she made August a possible heir to the throne after he shared child pornography of her own son with the whole world! Are you kidding?!
August deserved to be arrested, but no, we need to spare the crown another scandal. Who cares about Wille and Simon.
Wille's family constantly brings up Erik as a way to try and make Wille comply with whatever they want. I wasn't talking about this scene in particular, but in general.
Parents don't get a medal for "being ok" with their child's sexuality. That's the very bare minimum of parenting. You can be ok with your child's sexuality and still be a terrible parent if you emotionally neglect them and constantly try to silence them.
Wille's problems started long before he met Simon and figured out his sexuality. He was getting into fights and rebelling before the series even started. And the Queen's reaction was to ship him off to boarding school instead of trying to understand what was wrong.
I'm not saying she doesn't give a damn about her only living son, but she definitely cares about the crown more.

@@nenegrey2282 Thank you for writing all that I actually agree with everything and also the parts where I clearly misunderstood your initial comment, when I thought you meant that scene in particular. You’re right, they as a the crown in general keep using Erik to silence Wille, especially Olaf (in my opinion). Especially what you said about her neglecting his needs in favour of the crown’s needs, absolutely. Like, some of the decisions she took?! Truly disgusting. I can definitely see in her breakdown that this is weighing on her too even though she cares more about the crown than Wille. Fully agree. The only thing I gotta say is that it didn’t really come across in your initial comment that you thought her attack should also be taken seriously, though I definitely can tell that you do think it should be taken seriously from your second comment, but I totally agree with your assessment!

    • @nenegrey2282
      @nenegrey2282 Před 3 měsíci +8

@@nomadine85 My first comment was definitely about how the Queen dismisses Wille's health issues as tantrums, when they're actually very serious from the start. Say what you will about teenagers, but they don't just get into fights out of the blue, you know? Or point rifles at family members.
But as soon as she's the one to have the same issues, she clings to Wille and his father expects him to help?
Wille has always had anger issues, which he has tried to numb down with parties, alcohol, drugs. Better to feel intoxicated, than angry or depressed all the time. Then we see the first signs of anxiety. Then his brother dies, and he's left virtually alone to deal with the grief. Simon and Felice help in some ways, but they're children themselves, not much they can do. The anxiety escalates, he gets proper panic attacks, he throws up, etc. And the anger becomes stronger, too.
Wille gets no emotional family support, is coerced into going to therapy*, gets compared to his brother and has his death thrown in his face anytime he steps out of line.
(*which obviously doesn't work; you gotta WANT to be in therapy to see some lasting effects; if anything, in s2 we see Wille's anger escalate, culminating in the rifle scene... he did get the courage to come out thanks to Boris' words, but that moment of triumph was followed by...this; it's like anytime Wille makes a decision about his own life, he gets punished for it)
He should get actual, genuine help. Maybe in the form of meds, or rest... you know, exactly what his mother gets to have as soon as she shows signs of distress. I'm sure that with some time off and communication, Wille could have been persuaded into giving therapy a genuine try. But his parents couldn't be bothered, because Wille is a prince, and he should just get over it and put the crown first.
I didn't mean to imply that the Queen doesn't deserve help, but the opposite: Wille should receive the same help she does.
But no one seems willing to make a genuine effort with him.
The double standard, combined with the fact the Wille (a literal child) is expected to "step up" to help his parents and the entire institution when he's going through something very similar, but virtually ALONE, and for much longer, is just infuriating.
I'm just two episodes into s3, so I don't know how things develop. I might change my mind later on? I'm trying to watch one episode per day so that I won't have to wait too long for the finale lol
I've already seen some spoilers about Erik and Felice (?), so I know that Wille will have to deal with THAT as well 🙄
The only person he has on his side is Simon. And that's a lot of responsibility for Simon. It's not fair for either of them and it will definitely take a toll on their relationship.
Honestly, it seems to me like the royal family has set Wille and Simon up for failure. Irl I think a minimum of media training would start immediately for Simon, and maybe get some security around his house. But just like with Wille, the crown doesn't think he's worth the effort.
(Also English is not my first language, I think that contributes to my tone being harsh and the message not being very clear 😅)

@@nenegrey2282 Your English is amazing! I was sitting here reading your comment like 🤩 it makes me so happy when I read people also engaging with something deeply. I once again agree with everything you said. And I understand what you mean about how Wille ALSO should be allowed the same level of seriousness when it comes to his genuine need for emotional and psychological support. Oh shit, I totally forgot that she called it a tantrum, you’re right! I mean, I can see why it would look like a tantrum when viewed “narrowly”, him reacting to Simon being on a date with someone else. But like you rightly pointed out, the clear emotional neglect issues started way before. I’m curious to see what you’ll think of the rest of the season. Yeah they were mean for withholding the final episode. Rude haha

That's my main peeve about a sad majority of reactors. Too many will babble mindlessly, speaking over critical dialog, so they miss things that we're eager to see their reaction to. The worst of these is when a pair of reactors are hosting and essentially play the show _in_ _the_ _background_ while trading trashy jokes. Niall would never be so crass, and that's one reason why his subscriber count has skyrocketed.

I think Sara's dad knows what he's doing in trying to get her out of the house and doing something. In previous seasons it's implied he also has ADHD, and I think he understands her more than anyone else in her family. Especially when it comes to disappointing your loved ones and picking up the pieces of your life after messing up big time, his experience puts him in a key position to help her out. It's ironic and sad, because she decided to cut contact with for so many years. Anyway, I would LOVE to see her working at a horse rescue. Hopefully she gets back into horses by the end of the series, fingers crossed.

I’m sorry but I’m getting annoyed at people saying the Queen can’t handle the gays because that’s not the issue?? The issue is that she has to deal with an overlap of roles she is no longer able to compartmentalise. She hasn’t had time to process the grief of losing her oldest son, who she had been able to rely on to take up after her. Now she has to “rely” on her “wild” son who is absolutely not prepared for the role because he wasn’t supposed to be, and that’s not because he’s gay, but because of his personality. He is indiscreet, impulsive, unable to handle public pressure, hates public speaking, has a violent reactive streak… I mean, like she said, it’s one scandal after the next. I’m not saying he’s a bad character or person he’s literally acting like a teenager and is in some ways more mature than one, and less in other ways. And the scandals are not just because of August, but Wille was simply not raised to be a crown Prince, and it’s not fair on him but that’s not the point right now. Basically she is not only faced with the overall reality of having to “rely” on someone who isn’t fit to be relied on, she has to also deal with the loss of her son, while also being in a position where she has to make these terrible decisions that go either against her instinct as a mother or her training as the literal queen. She’s clearly suicidal and having a breakdown and honestly? The gay thing is clearly not an issue for her in particular. It is for the Olaf guy, that’s clear, but it’s not why she’s upset. She’s having to juggle all these roles and try to keep several drama magnet teenagers from hurting themselves and each other while still somehow also trying to “do her job” out of lack of experience with their new situation. Just, ugh. I know I’m overthinking this and I can’t even say that I feel “sorry” for her in particular, more so I get it and her not being able to handle it all is appropriate, but saying “she can’t handle the gays” is really out of place, I think. Sorry for the rant you’re not the only one who’s been saying it so I got annoyed and I guess you got the brunt of the rant.

Well said, I think a lot of people don’t think about what it would be like in her shoes. We don’t know what her upbringing was like, how much being a royal affected or damaged her. We hear glimpses of her background with “it’s a privilege not a punishment” which I think was likely told to her from her family and we see her starting to break a little in season 2. We see Wille’s anxiety and struggles a lot and I think it’s really important to see that adults struggle too!!! No matter your age or position adults struggle under pressure and have deep grief, anxiety, guilt etc. she is just as human as the rest of them. Simone’s mom and dad struggle too. The Queen has been under the pressures of the monarchy ruling her life the longest of anyone. Her pain and suffering is valid too. I won’t defend all her actions because I believe she has made some not so great choices but she hasn’t shown any real homophobia. She has been fine with Simone, the fact he is a boy and dating her son wasn’t the problem. The problem was it complicated things and she had to figure out how to try to protect her son and not have massive backlash about it all. It is her job to run the monarchy.

    • @nomadine85
      @nomadine85 Před 3 měsíci +16

@@BroadwayBound009 Yes! Thank you! Right. Exactly. On a human level her character is nuanced and really well written and acted, I think, despite being a “side character”. Like when she said to Wille that at that age she also had an “unfortunate dalliance” it wasn’t her saying it’s because he’s gay but because he’s a teenager. In fact she was placing his experience on the same level as her own, which I doubt was a queer one. She was unnecessarily dismissive of his experience by using that term the way an adult can be, and that’s shitty, but it was clearly because of a teenage thing not a gay thing. I think especially contrasted with how Olaf reacts to the situation over and over again it’s really obvious how not homophobic she is. If anything, she’s drama phobic as part of her lifelong job. The drugs, the initiation, the school being under scrutiny, her son’s death, the impromptu speech that wasn’t agreed on, the violent outbursts, the viral videos… and yes, having to also make shitty decision. Just do not envy that character at all. Jeez can you imagine being Wille’s parent? Even if they weren’t royals. I didn’t even think about that until I typed it out now. I mean, Simon’s mum wasn’t best pleased either. She’s a much more caring mum though so can’t really be compared personality wise but anyway my point is, shitty situation for literally everyone involved and the writers are too good haha

@@nomadine85 well said. I think some people like to pick villains and hero’s and see it as black and white (Wille/simone/august/sara, the Queen etc) instead of seeing all complexities. There is a lot of team Wille and team Simon and hate August and I have never seen it that way. I see indivisible complex humans with different backgrounds and struggles and circumstances and they ALL mess up and they ALL encounter nuanced issues and things that are out of their hands. I think peoples age and experience all factors in too, a 13 year old watching is likely to see things differently then a 30 year old due to life experience. 14:32 Well sure you have a right to defend yourself

The royal PR team is dropping the ball by not speaking to Simon and his mother directly and giving them both PR training. It`s ridiculuos that they don`t do that in this series.
