- There's no greater freedom than finding your purpose, says education advocate Ashweetha Shetty. Born to a poor family in rural India, Shetty didn't let the social norms of her community stifle her dreams and silence her voice. In this personal talk, she shares how she found self-worth through education -- and how she's working to empower other rural youth to explore their potential. "All of us are born into a reality that we blindly accept -- until something awakens us and a new world opens up," Shetty says.

after this, I am taking my education 200% more seriously, not that I never took it seriously.
As a father of two girls this story makes me cry.
It was very clear for me from the first second of their life I will always support them and encourage them to do whatever they want to do.
Education and knowledge is the only thing that can help make the world a better place for everyone.
Your kids are lucky... But I am a graduate... From a rural village... According to their wish I married and I have three kids... I deeply wanted to do a pg....but how I can go for studying with my baby...
Thanks stefan
Formal education - obeying and building somebody else’s dream
Self-education - taking charge and building your own dream
A formal education is when you are young and stupid. Self-education is when you have acquired skills in working with information.
@@malditapeppas509 It is a matter of your choice, what to devote your life to!
You can drop everything and go to an excellent, free French university .. If there is no money .. but a craving for knowledge.
Respect!
Education is power, power is necessary. study and become powerful
What a strong ,smart ,caring ,and amazing woman who has done so much good, and kudos to her parents, who were willing and brave enough to step outside the box THEY were put in, and let their daughter fly. An inspiring story
just vomited in my mouth...

I LOVE her . I’m not sure if I’d have such drive and resolve for education if I lived her life.
What a wonderful moving talk, and a wonderful encouraging empowering example Ashweetha, thank you for sharing and for having the courage to stand for yourself and nurture your deep truth. blessings to you
Really appreciate the way she expressed her thoughts straight from heart. Really proud to see that she realized her dream and also made an impact in the thinking process of other girls in her village. Girls are no longer a liability or show piece. Ashweeta god bless you in all your future endeavours.
Give into life or fight for your life, the choice is yours,
learn to empty the cup and you will find that others will fill it!
The world is full of people who are willing to use an empty cup.
Such a smart strong independent young woman!!! Go Ashweetha!
My father is from tirunelveli. You're doing a noble thing Ms. Shetty.
Kalvi enum oli kudutha neeyum oru kathiravan.
Hats Off to u madam for bringing a change to the society..🙏👏👏
Makes me feel so extremely happy for your success!
What a wonderful, strong, intelligent and beautiful lady!
Very inspiring talk, by Ms Shetty in her inimitable sing-song voice 😋
Education is the most life changing experience one can have. It's admirable that coming from a small obscure village in South India, Ms Shetty mustered the courage to migrate all the way to Delhi, not exactly the most woman-friendly city in India. Her talk should inspire n motivate many girls from remote rural regions of India to pursue higher education to transform their life. Good luck 👍
She looks amazing, confident, and brave. Thanks to all the educators around the world who are transforming lives!
What an inspiration journey. She is succeeded to break knowledge out of poverty
What a charming accent! Brave and strong woman
There is a difference between SCHOOL and EDUCATION
School teaches students how to collect the dots.
Education teaches students how to connect the dots.
Prince Ea right?
Fahad Ahmed not just Prince Ea, Seth Godin as well czcams.com/video/sXpbONjV1Jc/video.html
I like this.
Life is full of dots. Good teachers help good students connect the dots. It seems to me that the dots of life can be hurtful to people for many reasons. Dots are simply facts. But many people will put a dot in front of young people. Religion does this. Advertisers do this. People who sell education do this. Your parents do this. Every one puts out false dots and real dots...on purpose or on accident. A real dot can be verified objectively. A false dot will be rationalized in some way. A good student will see the real dots and find a good path through life. Be careful out there.
@@billschlafly4107 You have just showed me another real dot. Thank you!
This is so inspirational more people should hear about this story

A very inspiring woman.
Not only in India, in my country, many people underrate women.
Change it!
very inspiring speech ❤️
So inspiring!
Thank you very much. I was born in Viet Nam- a developing country but here, both boy and girl can learn and go to school equally. After listening your talk, i feel so favourable. I am a girl with many dreams, hope, and i have many things i want to do. Fortunately, i wasn't born in your country. India is a country which discriminate gender, treat female inequality.
Really Inspiring speech..! Hats off and a great bow for your Success. You will be an Inspiration for many rural girls to fight their odds..! This is what True Feminism is. Congrats and Keep Going. Really a Great Effort and Great Initiative..!
life is a journey of finding the correct position of your, to make you useful, valuable.
Education is like food.the right kind, in moderation can lead to a healthy growth. The wrong kind, or overwhelming amounts of useless information (TV, social media) - all contribute to the greater mental health and defeatist attitudes amongst what could be some of the brightest people We’ve ever seen.😞
The best thing that education brings to one's life is the way they think of the world. When you have education, you know that you can change your life, you know how the world around you really are. Not the small things you face everyday. Not just eating, drinking, living and giving birth. The more I know about the world, the more confidence I have. I know my dream is something I can hold one day if I try my best. I try to educate myself everyday, and feel the life is really an interesting place. We live to discover ourselves. Stop learning is equal to stop living.
❤️! Keep it up 🙏🏻
This sounds like the book by Tara Westover titled "Educated"
OHMYGODDDD You read it too! I love that book! Absolutely amazing and shocking for what she went through!
@@bongocatnguyen5756 yes! It was amazing and unsettling.
wonderful thanks for it
This is my new favorite ted talk
Honesty pays surely
Hard working is the key of success. And I was sure that this speech or story are boost or motivate most of girls who think she is burden of her family. 👍
Almost 99/100th of India can say that they have educated women now
You are a good person. Madam, You inspired many person including me. Thank You So Much ☺️❤️
inspiration alwaysss !!!
There is a drastic difference between a woman who is educated from a village in some developing nation that looks down upon women going to school and a western woman educated in a western university. The former had to overcome challenges, display personal resilience, discipline, and face and overcome adversity. The latter has everything handed to her on a silver platter complete with scholarships and lower bars of entry all attached to an unreasonable amount of debt (in the USA). This is why a much higher percentage of women who graduate in India have STEM degrees than their western counterparts. This is why women who graduate in India are competent by the time they have a degree.
Agree! Also noticed same. The harder the training, the easier the fight.
This inspired me a lot!
All the very best
She is awesome ❤️
Kudos to you, young lady.
You are such an inspiration 💓
That was great sister
மனமார்ந்த வாழ்த்துக்கள்
To prevail education is so important.
Education is only a very small part. The biggest, most important thing is contributing, like this girl.
One for all.
All for one.
You are great!
Thanks a lot

Society is what the people make it. It has hangovers of past...but it's always changing. People from within change it... As long as one doesn't feel like victimized ..and has a drive... Things are possible. India is a land of opportunity.
I was crying while watching this video.
She tells everything like a Unstoppable Woman 👩. 😄😅😂
Proud of You Mam.... 😊
Hi Ashweetha Shetty....Nice informative msg and speaks...Great by C TAMILMARAN
despite her strong indian accent I deeply understand her, good job girl...I am a rural girl and now I'm studying PhD course. what brought me here to watch your inspiring speech was that at the moment I'm improving my english skills to be able to apply for a postdoc position abroad.
Education
Life skill
Opportunity....
I see her in my school
At times we don't realise the change and ironically even change agents.
Nice
Her English accent seems like Deepika padukone as tamil girl who speaks English in Chennai express movie
She is from South Tamil Nadu.
