He uses no reference, does no base sketch, no skeleton, no gesture no framework for what he's about to make... he just paints... in perfect perspective. This man's artist level is over 9000!
+Analog Puppet You're right on all points. Thing is, he's put more hours into drawing than most of us, and really knows his references off by heart. It's why he doesn't need references, and why he doesn't need to have a skeleton or guide lines. He is the epitome of artistic ability in his field.
No quality? His drawings are done in one take, in another words he draws whatever is in his mind without second thought. It's as natural as he gets and that's quality.
It isn't that hard to draw like Kim Jung Gi. You just have to be born with an insane amount of drawing talent, recognize that fact early in life, and then completely dedicate yourself for decades to mastering every aspect of your ability to render images until you can perfectly visualize any structure, device, animal, plant, human, or imaginary creature in any possible position and from every possible angle, and can create that image seamlessly within a complex, multi-layered scene from any perspective without making even the slightest mistake while using a very sensitive drawing instrument. I don't know why people make it sound so difficult.
Isn't it hard engough to be born with such "an insane amount of drawing talent"? I think you underestimate the amont of skill you need to visualize such a big drawing just in your mind with all the perspectives lol
I actually use the same pen as him for inking, and the amount of control and experience he has with it is insane, like the way he does all the shadows and effects is actually amazing
Every video I watched of him is unbelievable and also mindboggling how he visualises the scenario right from the start. He seems to have some kind of 3D rendition of the scenery in his mind just before drawing and perfects it on the fly. Outstanding!❤️
kshitij kumar In fact,I did a rough draft on a three panel gag last night...then saw your comment this morning. Made the mistake of re-watching the vid...crap.... ...THANKS Kshitij!!!! lol.
he lives in another world from normal people, you think you can comprehend that godly talent ? i wouldnt even begin trying to understand how he draws the images in his head
Kim Jung Gi is just amazing! His freehand artistry without reference, based on imagination, memory and detail is outstanding. Throw in some perspective and this guy is one of a kind. I've worked as an artist for over 20 years and have never, ever seen such skill like him!
I think he must have an eidetic memory. I've never seen anyone able to produce such accurate and fully realized scenes from memory + imagination before.
Well even if u have a picture right next to u its not that easy to replicate ...well alone not being able to erase and just do freehand ...he trully is gifted or better yet ..hard worker
How is this possible like he uses no reference no nothing and has the best skills "I" have ever SEEN while me on the other hand struggle to find a style that suits me
Possessing a visual vocabulary so vast...it isn't imaginable until you actually try to build it. It's like a combination of various sets of objects, and in one of his videos he clearly said, draw not what you see but what you have seen, and I've come to realise that means that you need to study ever edge, curve, fold, contour, every nook and cranny of the object before you can draw it from memory because once you do, you literally have an imaginary 3D hologram of it floating in your head, ready to be projected through your pen. He developed an instict for it at a young age, which gave him this little hack for drawing from memory, allowing him to combine, break apart and redesign any object he has fully visually registered. Once I think of it this way, it actually sounds near impossible, but understandable, and hence doable.
I doubt it. It’s no visual library that you build. You do not build it from the outside world, you practice and refine your own filter, your own inner perception and style. People who study from nature end up with a hyperrealistic skill that is very limited in objects an scope of movement s. If you want to be capable to draw a huge amount of things, you ought to practice without reference and without studying from nature. Painting is not like science where ppl collect data, it’s rather like speaking a native language, you start instinctively picking sounds and then refining your own sounds and style of speech until you are capable of great oratory. It’s awkward for a native speaker to collect data on how people speak through observation and mimicking the sounds of others. It just becomes forced and limited to specific contexts in the city for example. If you interact and let it happen through intuitive practice, it’s likely to go and sound native like and gets a special style to it.
this man is channeling directly from source... Perfect perspective, perfect proportion, perfect values, and NO ROUGH DRAFT.....he doesn't stop to even think. I draw, and i thought i was good, but hez just in a whole nother dimension.
Incredible, he must have some sort of photographic memory to be able to get the detail and perspective absolutely spot on without any reference or pre-sketching.
This work (as is all this guy's) is so detailed I go cross eyed trying to absorb it. It would help me if it could be slowed down now and then during the presentation.
i swear that.even thought his drawings are perfect regarding perspective, anatomy, imagination and so on,my mind cant accept the fact that this is being done without any help or guidelines just by his insane skills, like these skills are out of this planet.therefore my brain is havin trouble realizing how good he is.. like wtf man??!
he is not drawing "flatly". does anybody notice that when you look at the THUMBNAIL of this video, it looks like as if his HANDS could swim THROUGH the drawing. LIKE 3 dimensional. that is why the perspective of his drawings is really extraordinary.
All the experienced draughtsmen can do direct drawing but there are some things I like in Kim , his technique with his tools, he can do a final piece even in public, his memory for details I guess he does a deep observation study for everything he has in mind to draw, Giraud drew in this manner too, I'm not really sure about doing direct drawing because is more like an engraving.
He uses no reference, does no base sketch, no skeleton, no gesture no framework for what he's about to make... he just paints... in perfect perspective. This man's artist level is over 9000!
Colossus Junior And If i'm not mistaken, thats three point perspective. which is even harder.
+Analog Puppet You're right on all points. Thing is, he's put more hours into drawing than most of us, and really knows his references off by heart. It's why he doesn't need references, and why he doesn't need to have a skeleton or guide lines.

RIP Kim Jung Gi you will be missed
I’m sickened over this news.
he's too young ...
His art is outstanding, sad that he's gone that young. RIP legend!
This is absolutely unreal. The man just pulls these perfect images out of his head.
Out of memory, to be more specific.
such art deserves more than 480p.
oh man, right on
RIP to an absolute legend
Dude was a master. Sad to see him go. My wife loves watching him work. And honestly so do I.
dad: what do you wanna be when you grow up?
me: Kim Jung Gi!!!

Isn't it hard engough to be born with such "an insane amount of drawing talent"? I think you underestimate the amont of skill you need to visualize such a big drawing just in your mind with all the perspectives lol
Yeah how hard can it be to draw for hours on end?
Everyone makes mistakes my friend.
What if I'm not born with such talent?
You can't imagine this guys skill unless you have been a long time illustrator ..I have never seen anything that compares to it ...
Yah illustrators draw sketches first and then theres this guy....
I actually use the same pen as him for inking, and the amount of control and experience he has with it is insane, like the way he does all the shadows and effects is actually amazing
@BEDOYA ART A Pentel colour brush pen but any brush pen might work as well
Gone far, far too soon, GrandMaster Gi now passes into Legend.
RIP, gentle soul.

Possibly the most gifted artist ever lived. A true prodigy!
He is lucky he lives in South Korea. In North Korea he would have to draw only Kim Chen Un every day.

after watching this video

that drawing isnt so hard
all you need is
a pen
a canvas
and a kim jung gi

all the jealousy and saltiness Aspen, youre sad

Aspen TEC you'll never progress as an artist if you think in such a pathetic way.
I'm not saying he is without fault. He is human, after all. But saw him live, no edits needed. He really is that good.
he lives in another world from normal people, you think you can comprehend that godly talent ? i wouldnt even begin trying to understand how he draws the images in his head
Hands down the most detailed black and white I've ever seen. Better than the comics I read dude. Astonishing.

buddy took the limitless pill
I think he must have an eidetic memory. I've never seen anyone able to produce such accurate and fully realized scenes from memory + imagination before.
Koreans serve in the army, its possible that his visual library is influenced by that to draw the soldiers kit, but his skills are from practice.
Well even if u have a picture right next to u its not that easy to replicate ...well alone not being able to erase and just do freehand ...he trully is gifted or better yet ..hard worker
harrell tolentino Hes been drawing for nearly his entire life. It honestly doesn't surprise me that he is this good.

TeddyLeper But he is older than you, right?
How is this possible like he uses no reference no nothing and has the best skills "I" have ever SEEN while me on the other hand struggle to find a style that suits me
This needs to be re-uploaded in HD. The glory of Kim Jung Gi's artwork can only be witnessed in 1080p and beyond.
This guy is superhuman. Literally. He just has an inbuilt perfect sense of perspective.
Was für ein unfassbares Talent, eine Schande das er so früh gegangen ist.....
