Jonny, this was one of the best productions I've viewed on boat positions. The drone shots are really sound! You've truly found your niche. I would like to see something similar for highland lakes with steeper banks, specifically showing some of the little noticed breaks created by bluff ends and transitions. Most of us are guilty of "blowing through" these areas. Again, between you, Randy, and Matt, best content out there!

All good tips, but line type is very important too. Mono is softer and more abrasion resistant than fluoro. Something to think about when shallow cranking

Good tips! Thank you! I am amazed how well squarebills come through rock and wood with those treble hooks. It looks like it would get hung up all the time but it does not. I did not fish squarebills for a long time because I thought I would get hung up and lose too many of them. Great bait.

I just got back from a fishing trip and mainly used a square bill or drop shot. Caught half of my fish on each bait. (30 fish total) I fished the crank bait the way you just described. Once in a while I'd fish it side to side like it was changing directions.
Got a lot of hits right after I started to retrieve the bait.
I totally agree with casting close and parallel to bank or cover, but what would you do when you have another angler on the boat which is typically how I fish?
I feel like all of these fishing tips videos are good for anyone who DOESNT live in Southern california lol. We don't have structure here, we have mud and algae, sometimes the occasional sunken boat, but that's about it lmao

Square bills are my favorite way to fish . I have modeled all my fishing around KVD and his 1.5 square bill . I throw mostly around lay downs so i don’t have any bill issues. They are priced at a little bit over six bucks. I also have some of Rick Cluns old Poes square bills which are awesome. They are made out of bausa so when you get snagged or brake off they just float to the surface. Great video 👍😎❤️🎣
The KVD 1.5 was my go-to crankbait for years. It's still a fish catcher. I just break one almost every fishing trip around rocks haha. Glad you enjoyed the video

I gave this video a big thumbs up. I'm one of those rare fishermen that hasn't used squarebill crank much. I want to use them more, though. One question I have is when is the best time to use them? Is it best as a post-spawn bait or does it do well pre-spawn too? Thank you, I love your channel, Jonny.
I catch most of my squarebill fish from the post-spawn through early winter. I don't throw one that much in the winter through pre-spawn in my area of the country.

I’m still trying to figure out what makes a square bill better than a regular bill crank bait. How would you decide which type to throw? Also, where I fish there aren’t any laydowns or rip rap, and I fish from the shore. There a long concrete wall in one spot, and a steel break wall in another. I guess I should try to figure out how to bang the square bill off of them?

Im curious if anyone throws tournaments that ban electronics from being used? Seems more and more its a tournament of who has the biggest or most graphs on their boats. It would be cool to see an old school throw down happen again.
The front hook usually causes snags. When fishing heavy cover, you can remove the front hook entirely or go with a short shank/down-sized treble

I finally got 3 mega bass cranks 3 diffrent sizes. I appreciate your knoledge...I will follow
I have little faith in light wire hooks for cranking and so I switch them to salt water trebles of the exact same size. The lure still runs true and the hooks have no “give” whatsoever, thus improving not only the hook set, but the hook hold.
Randy is feeling what is going on in the water so he doesn't miss as many fish that is one of the reasons he changes it up and plus it gives them another look so they strike the crankbait more

Glad you enjoyed! I don't worry about color very much. I use Black Back Chartreuse in dirty water, Sexy Shad in stained water and MB Gizzard in clear water. I'll also throw a red crankbait in the winter. That's pretty much it

Yeah I'll be making a lot more content on the Arkansas River this year. Still learning how to get around after all the floods the past few years that moved all the sand bars. I've been having to idle everything, so I haven't been able to get many videos.

My most vicious strikes come when I am burning and stopping with an occasional twitch. Always on a 7:1 reel or faster.
$60 reel? How often you using it? One of your lure and several hooks will be more than $60
CZcams algorithm is your affair, not ours.
KVD doesn't have to worry about the bigger hooks because he doesn't have to worry about breaking them off and wasting money. He gets the crankbaits and hooks for free

Why you need a S crank if you goal is to hit the rock consistently? A crankbait that runs straight is better for this situation. Isn't it?
Only argument I have is: Say you throw to a target 30 times, like you talked about. Yeah, you could feel confident that a fish is on that cover, but what if you're wrong, and you're just knocking on a door that nobody is there to answer? At that point, you're just wasting casts, and wasting time. When do you simply decide to move on?
A lot of fishing videos dispense advice with great confidence, such as what a bait is doing down beneath the surface, without actually seeing and confirming that it is truly doing just that. Well, you, yourself, have actually proven some of that information dispensed in the past, to have been incorrect, through your underwater video series you have posted, in the swimming pool, showing exactly what ACTUALLY happens to those baits. And a good many of those videos are eye opening, cause we learn that "Gee, I THOUGHT i knew what was happening with my bait. I guess I didn't".
My man, no need to change out hooks "every 3-4 hours". A simple hook sharpener will suffice. You're talking about turning a 3 dollar lure into a 10 dollar lure. Try to be a little more subtle in your marketing techniques. yeezus.
