  • If you’re looking to start making and selling greeting cards, watch this video first. We’re going to talk about whether there’s still potential in selling them or if it’s not worth your time because maybe no one sends greeting cards anymore? We’ll cover this as well as how to start your own handmade greeting card business in this video.
    Now, you might think that with email, text messaging and social media, that no one sends greeting cards anymore. But, fortunately for you, the greeting card market is as strong as ever and is even expected to grow for at least the next five years. 6.5 billion greeting cards are sold each year in the USA. Germany sells 600 million cards a year and the UK greeting card industry is worth over 1.6 billion pounds sterling alone, which is almost 2 billion US dollars. Keep in mind that a lot of those sales are taken up by major brands like Hallmark, Walmart and Target. But it shows that there is still a demand for physical greeting cards and there are opportunities to collaborate with major retailers if you’re unable to find a gap in the market on your own. We’ll talk a bit more about that later.

    Now you're talking my language! Yes, it's true it's very competitive market, however as you said- you NEED to have a niche. You can make a big dent. Look at Emily McDowell and her Cancer themed get well cards. It's what she is known for.
    And regarding the issue of waste. This is a very valid point. I now only offer 💯% recycled envelopes and compostable plastic sleeves for all my cards.
    Another avenue that you can try is POD (Fine Art America) if you just want to design cards, but don't want the bother of printing or mailing.
    Thank you fo all the good advice as per usual Mei.;)

    Hello there :) I'm also planning on starting a scrapbooking boutique online and I was inspired by your content. I just wanted to know how do you customise orders according to the customer's wish? Like, how do you get their pictures and do you ask them specific questions and what not?

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  Před 3 lety +1

      You will have to have some kind of messaging system in place for this. If you use Etsy then they have a customer order messaging system. If you use Shopify you will need a way for them to contact you via webform or email. Then you need to develop a system and a contract for taking and keeping their information as you complete the order.

    This is so helpful i been trying for 5 years. Procrastinating, watched so many youtube videos. Came accross yours very informative given me the push i needed. New subscriber here, watched a few of your videos very intelligent girl. Just one question cannot find the answer anywhere. If printing from home how do you print so it looks like a professional card ie. The words the information at the back of the card?? Is it a special printer or is it done by a printing company. I've seen cards that are printed but still have layers on top of layers. If you don't know maybe you know somewhere that do.
    Your channel is very good friendly and professional not boring 😀

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Veronica! I think this printing is done through the design. I know some graphic designers have some extremely high-end printers and they format them to print on all sides and design that logo/info you see on the back.

    SO my question is the copyright law. How do I use stamps and stencils and then call the card MY OWN... isn't that a copyright infringement or is that just a DIY? If I print it then it's the COPYRIGHT infringement ... correct?

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  Před 3 lety +2

    Hi Mei,
    I've been binging and researching your videos like crazy these past few days. I wanted to ask...
    My designs revolve around these little creatures I've drawn and although I think they're adorable and I definitely want to see them in greeting card format, I lack the confidence that others will enjoy them.
    do you think it's a good idea to start up a Facebook page where I post up the potential designs of my greeting cards even before I've finalized anything? Is it weird to promote products when they're not even "done"? Eventually would want to use the page as part of the business.

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Nou, you can do this and start to gain a following if you're not quite ready to sell yet. Lots of artists do this and when followers start asking for their drawings on things they transition to selling.

    • @CreativeHiveCo
      @CreativeHiveCo  Před rokem +1

      Hi! I broke down my answers to your questions below. Hope this helps! 😊
      1. how i can have greeting cards
      - There are a couple ways you can do this. You can either: a.) print or make them yourself at home; b.) find a local printer to print your greeting card designs for you; c.) have a POD company print (and ship) it for you.
      There are still a ton of other ways you can do this so it would be best to conduct a research to know the best option that works for you.
      2. what i can use for website and selling
      - In terms of where to sell your products, I highly recommend having your own website. Shopify is a great platform to build your own website on. It's user-friendly and integrates well with a lot of other apps/software.
      3. suggest how and where i can buy online cards design
      - You can check out Etsy for printable greeting cards you can buy (you may also want to double check if the designs are available for resale/commercial use). Or you can also hire a graphic designer to design a greeting card for you that meets your requirement.
      I highly suggest you conduct a research too to know all your possible options.
      Good luck!! I wish you all the best!! ❤️ Just let me know if you have any further questions or you can also email me at mei@creativehiveco.com.

    I own a paper crafting business. I have spent alot of time over 10 years improving my skill set and various product line. My frustration is getting more customers. I've made anything from Advent 3D Christmas Trees to Box Popup cards in various sizes for certain year birthdays and weddings. To even customized cards just for that special someone. Where I'm struggling right now is with getting more awareness for my business. All products are made by hand so lots of love and time can go into 1 product. Holidays are typically my nitch, but right now there are no craft shows and thats when I typically make more. Would it make more sense for me to make more gift card holders or sets of 6 to 12 cards with various holidays, birthdays, or just positivity and products that bring a smile during this hard time? If you have a moment any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Especially since I am now only doing my paper crafting business. My daughter will be doing her freshman year virtually so I now have even more time. Thank you again and have a great day!
