👍 That is so sweet! The presentation box with the cleaning tools makes it even sweeter. As far as 357 magnums go, it doesn’t get much better than that.
beautiful firearm I think the S&W blued N frame revolvers are the sexiest made . a few weeks back I bought a model 57 41magnum with a 6" barrel and just ordered a model 27 with a 6 1/2 " barrel . I know an old timer who has a model 29 he bought while in the Navy in 1974 trying real hard to talk him out of it . great video beautiful gun , thank you .
I have one of these in chrome. It was my wife's grandfathers Highway Patrol service revolver from the 1970s. Man, this revolver is VERY powerful! My serial starts with N379
The hand-gun I learned to shoot with. It had such great balance; felt like an extension of my arm. When I bought it, it was called "The Highway Patrolman" model.
The highway Patrolman was the model 28. It is nearly identical to this gun, the model 27, except for a few small differences. The 27 had a polished blue or nickel finish, and most had the target width hammer & trigger. The 28 had a dull blue finish and most often had service hammer & trigger. A few model 28s had a brushed nickel finish, but those are extremely rare. Depending on when they were made, there were also some differences in the barrel contour between the 27 and 28.
@@1957Shep You are correct. I had & loved the model 27-2, but due to a misunderstanding thought it was the Highway Patrolman, and my Uncle and I kept calling it that because my cousin kept calling it [dirty] Harry. Dumb, but there it is. Does anybody else out there name their guns?) Thanks for the correction.
Shep was just curious if you have ever handled or shot one of S&W newer “classic” Series Revolvers? And if so what did you think of it? I know they’re generally not quite as nice as the older original S&W Revolvers but was just curious as to what you think of them.
I have not shot any of the Classic Series, but I have seen quite a few of them. I wasn`t impressed. The finish is dull and crude. The action is ok, but not as good as the old ones. The grips are wood, but they look like plastic. And the put those stupid locks on them. And they are so high priced that they cost almost as much as what you could expect to pay for an old one in nice condition.
I think this is the magnum before the magnum semi automatic pistol: the Desert Eagle but the M27 Revolver is a .357 magnum while the Desert Eagle is a .44 magnum. Both of these are the best weapon against your enemies because one shot from a magnum you die.
The Desert Eagle was chambered for 5 different calibers. 357 Magnum, 41 Magnum, 44 Magnum, 440 Cor-Bon, and 50 Action Express. But semi-automatic pistol platforms are not very well suited for high powered cartridges. Designing an auto pistol for most magnum cartridges requires that they have a gas operated locking and operating system. And you end up with something big and clunky like the Desert Eagle, the Wildey, or the Auto-Mag pistols. I have a pair of Desert Eagles, a 44 and a 50. They are fun range toys, but not very good for any real practical use. When it comes to high powered handgun calibers, an automatic won`t do anything a revolver would not do better in a smaller more useful package. And no one has even tried chambering really heavy magnum calibers like the 454 Casull, 480 Ruger, 475 & 500 Linebaughs and the 460 & 500 S&W in an auto pistol. Just not practical. Action and magazine would have to be placed forward of the trigger group like a semi-auto rifle. And if you were going to do that, you might as well just chamber it for rifle calibers instead of dinking around with handgun calibers. But all of those work just fine in revolvers, assuming you can handle the recoil. If you want a practical auto pistol that has plenty of power, look into the 10mm and 45 Super cartridges. Heavy loads in those calibers can get you above 357 Mag power levels and can still be chambered in normal size pistols. You seldom see guns in 45 Super (unless they are conversions) but the 10mm is fairly common. Most Law Enforcement Agencies consider the 10mm to be a little too powerful for their use (mainly because of over penetration issues and that a lot of female officers have trouble handling the recoil) but some people like it as a good all around caliber like the 357 Magnum.

Thanks for the review of a classic.
You bet!Thanks
beautiful gun! I need one of these to help complete my collection. I have a 28-2, 29-2, 57, and still looking for a 25 and 27.
Sounds like you need a model 24 in there as well. :-)
What a beauty.
Thanks
You have the sweetest collection, thanks for showing her
Thank you too!

Nice thanks for showin
Thanks for taking time to watch
27-2’s are some of the nicest revolvers ever made
Thanks
The 27-2 were the pinnacle of Smith's quality control. Pinned, recessed, beautiful blue. Best DA revolver ever made.
I bought mine back in 1977, just after I turned 21. Still have it. It is a joy to take to the range. They really don't make them like that anymore.
They are good guns.
Absolutely a beautiful gun. The model 29 had a full profile barrel while the model 27 had a slight reduction just ahead of the frame. Great video sir.
Thanks

That’s a real sweet S&W Revolver!

Nice. Love the N frames.
Thanks!
What a beautiful firearm.
Thanks
That's a nice model 27 and the stocks look sweet. The presentation box is cool.
Glad you like it
Another beauty, Shep! 🥰
Glad you like it!
She's a beauty.
Thanks
The best .357 revolver ever!!!
Thanks
S&w Model 27 revolver best.
Thanks
Prettiest grips i've ever seen, looks like racing stripes. Makes you shoot faster, i guess.
Back then S&W paid attention to quality.

I had one that I bought new in 1974, it had a 5" barrel, and like an Idiot I sold it!! Now I can kick myself because it is really collectible today!
That`s why I never sell or trade anymore. Always end up regretting it.
But I have picked up a Model 29 6" that I will keep that's in like new condition!
Anyone know who makes a holster for this monster?
There are lots of holsters for N Frame S&W revolvers.
