- What's the right concrete repair product for hairline cracks? Why do they usually occur on window and door corners?
Repairing hairline cracks on walls can be tricky as this type of concrete damage can recur or aggravate when repaired using the wrong product and method.
Hairline cracks could occur due to movements and vibrations on the wall, especially on windows and doors. Without a strong frame or support (lintel beams), hairline cracks will gradually form on the weak parts of the wall. Other causes of hairline cracks include: external blunt impacts, concrete deterioration, and poor compressive strength.
Delaying the concrete repair for these cracks can be expensive and, sometimes, dangerous. Plus, you have to choose a product that can restore the aesthetic quality of your wall. So, it should allow repainting.
The process of repairing concrete cracks can be complicated as you need to consider many factors, such as gauging the depth of concrete damage, the right cut to use, and most importantly, the products and methods for repairing such micro-sized cracks.
Suitable method for concrete crack repair can be selected based on evaluation of the crack in structure for its causes. Once the cause is known and type of crack is established, then suitable method can be selected.
If the cracking was primarily due to drying shrinkage, then it is likely that after a period of time the cracks will stabilize. On the other hand, if the cracks are due to a continuing foundation settlement, repair will be of no use until the settlement problem is corrected. As for structural crack repair, the damage has to be diagnosed and addressed immediately to prevent the damage from aggravating.

I too have such kind of hairline cracks in my apartment's walls. They are not wide but long enough to put anyone in worry.
Question: what could possibly happen if we don't repair these walls with about 1-2mm width hairline crack? Is the wall going to fall after some years? Will the size and shape of existing crack change? Will it become more wider and longer, affecting other walls too?

Hairline cracks are common in many buildings, particularly in plaster, which is prone to shrink and is very sensitive to movement, particularly if the supporting structure is old, or timber frame. The timber frame will move over time, but the plaster will not - and so it cracks.The appearance of cracks and other distortions caused by building movement can be visually unattractive and disconcerting for occupants, and if left untreated they can affect the integrity, safety and stability of the structure.
