- I literally could not find a single version of this EP online that was in the correct pitch, so I decided to pitch correct it myself. Enjoy!
Tracklisting:
Crows
Genesis 19 1-2 (1:59)
Yoga (3:35)
Dirty Old Town (6:10)
Commandante (9:00) - Komedie
Haven't heard it in the correct pitch before, thanks.
Yeah that threw me off. If listened to the bootleg for so long...
All manner of curses upon whoever disliked this.
Christ it's cool to hear TMG do Dirty Old Town.
6 years late but this is clearest version of commandate I've ever heard
When he rhymes crows with rose... 😭😤 😭😤✊
LMAO
When he rhymes "Behan" with "Tripoli / And..."
Crows:
Well I went way out North Carolina Way
To that old graveyard where my great grandmother lay
And the day was bright and I hadn't slept all night
And they'd sold the place to some guys who were building graduate student housing
No one had raised any objections
They were knocking the headstones down
And the sun was high when I rolled into town
Stood by a nameless hole in the ground
The air was sweet and hot
Maybe it was the right grave
Maybe not
But the crows, crows, crows
Rose, rose, rose from the grave
Yeah the crows crows crows
Rose, rose, rose from the grave
Genesis 19: 1-2:
The girl who'd been haunting your dreams all your life
The butcher from Brooklyn, the butcher's wife
The girl who kissed you in the seventh grade
Her and all the others lined up behind the gate
The two angels came to Sodom in the evening
When the sun up in the sky was bleeding all over you
And you had your camera
And you had your felt tip
And you had some money
And you had everything you needed
The two angels came to Sodom in the evening
They saw you coming up the boulevard
The two angels came to Sodom in the evening
When the sun up in the sky was bleeding all over you
Yoga:
We had our passports out and the kits to fix 'em up with
And the hurricane lamp threw our shadows on the ceiling
I watched them box with one another up there, Punch and Judy
It was lovely, it was awful, it was that kind of feeling
When you said it was real sure
That there was nothing standing in our way
And the lie ran off and hid itself in the alleys
All across Bombay
I saw you knock the lamp over while reaching for the scissors
And I wondered how we'd ever get by without it
And you fell into my arms then, sweet and gentle
Poison in the water, little doubt about it
And you said that one of us
Would be all alone someday
And the truth of it echoed inexhaustibly
Up and down the thoroughfares all across Bombay
Dirty Old Town:
I found my love by the Gasworks croft
Dreamed a dream by the old canal
I kissed my girl by the factory wall
Dirty old town, dirty old town
The moon is shifting behind the cloud
Cats are crawling all along the beat
And spring's a girl in the street at night
Dirty old town, dirty old town
Heard a siren calling from the docks
Saw a train set the night on fire
I smelled the spring on the smoky wind
Dirty old town, dirty old town
I'm going to make a good sharp axe
Shining steel tempered in the fire
Will chop you down like an old dead tree
Dirty old town, dirty old town
Commandante:
I'm gonna drink more whiskey than Brendan Behan
And I'm gonna send my belongings all to Tripoli
And I'm gonna ride home to California
With a banjo on my knee
I'm never gonna turn off the television
I'm just gonna let it run all night
I'm gonna plant root vegetables out in the backyard
And come summer I am going to treat you right
So put on your Chairman Mao coat
And let me clear my throat
Let's turn this whole town upside-down
And shake it 'til the coins come falling out of its pocket
Yeah put on your Che Guevara pin
Call the troops on in
We're gonna sail through the night sky like a pair of bottle rockets
I got a great big secret written down somewhere
I got a rosary to protect us both from harm
I got a storage locker full of cow figurines
And a laundry list of grievances longer than my arm
And I am never going back to Cincinnati
All those bridges have burned down to the ground
I got the jet pack strapped to my back
And I'm waiting for you to come around
Yeah, put on your Chairman Mao coat
And let me clear my throat
Let's turn this whole place upside-down, yes
And shake it 'til the coins come falling out of its pockets
Yeah put on your Che Guevara pin
Call the troops on in
We're gonna sail through the night sky like a pair of bottle rockets
Thanks for posting! It's in the top 5 MG albums for me.
Thanks for doing this!
let's turn this whole place upside down, and shake it 'till the coins come falling out of its pockets yyeeeaaahhhh
This is that one where John wants to be like Billy Bragg. I'm cool with that.
I kinda like Commandante better faster and in the higher pitch. I mean that would turn the key to G sharp, a perfect key to close an album on.
Does anyone have a download for this ep? The version i have is not pitch-corrected and now that I know the truth I can't listen to the original.
anyone know the chord progression for Genesis 19 1-2 ?? I’m tryna yell this this bad boy 😭 🙏
it's pretty tricky for someone with smaller hands like me... just figured it out myself. goes something like
13321X -> 13301X -> 11321X -> 11301X for the intro
13321X -> 11321X for the verse
13321X -> 33201X -> 13321X -> 11321X for the chorus/refrain.
You can replace all the muted notes with a barred 1st fret note (open for the C/G in the chorus), but barring makes it very hard to play the intro... so I opt for the thumb on E string index/middle/ring on A string method. Hope that helps.
@@rowanmckereghan tysm kind stranger!
I think it's pretty similar to Ontario and there's a tab for that somewhere online
Hi Joel.
555 likes, gotta leave it where it is for now.
Why is the category Comedy?
Because life is a joke and emotions are silly
Because it hurts so bad it comes all the way back around to being funny
Have you not been periodically laughing about this album over the past three years?
I have listened to copies that sound sped up or with the wrong pitch too. I thought it was like that? I wonder if someone has a rip off the original recording, is it vinyl?
This is so weird..... I think I liked it better in the high pitch.
+Andrew Ballard I know right? The different pitch made Crows sound like it was a song being played on an old radio. I loved it.
I think I agree lol
Listen, graduate students gotta live somewhere.
