      @J B ,
      Thanks for your comment.
      Hopefully, you will see my reply and respond to it.
      My wife got the key fob wet, and its battery discharged (despite putting it in dry rice, overnight).
      My question is: Are you certain that the battery is rechargeable and is recharged by the car's ignition switch?
      I don't want to "cut" my key fob apart, and replace a battery, if it can be recharged by the ignition.
      If you could verify the "recharging feature" that would be helpful. Otherwise, I will probably find out, after using the key fob for a few days.
      Thanks.

    Sorry for my wrong reply to WheepyMAW ! The battery is really RECHARGEABLE. It recharges through the LC 125 kHz resonant tank on the same PCB side where the battery is mounted. But, as any rechargeable battery, it wears out as time passes and recharge number increases.
    So a battery substitution becomes unavoidable after many years. You can try to fit a non-rechargeable battery, but it will suffer overheating and power drop if car is used (the key is in car immobilizer transponder range) for long times.
    For door open / close there is a separate 315 / 433 MHz pure transmitter IC supplied by the battery with a separate, different antenna.
    Nevertheless I cannot guarantee that you do not need a rolling code reset of the part by some specific SW, that is to say it could be you experience a fail in the substitution.

      Yes this does work with certain electric tooth brush chargers. When the range of my fob goes down, i stick the fob on a tooth brush charger for 12 hours. My fob then works from a long distance again. I might do this once or twice a year. The less you use the car, the less the fob gets charged.

    Okay, so I've followed this method. Opened the casing, desoldered, took off the old battery, soldered on a new 2025 rechargable battery.
    The key still does not remotely lock or unlock the car.
    Went to several key specialists who said to buy a new key which will cost around £120 and check if it works. If not, then it may be something else in relation to the car.
    They have checked my key using a machine that checks the signal and it is giving out a strong signal every time it is pressed, even they are baffled to why it does not lock and unlock the car.
    Is there another solution? Does the key need re-programming when a battery is replaced?
    They told me if the key works inside the car to start then there is no point paying to have it re-programmed as it is fine. I'm not sure what to do now. Anyone?
