The reason why people saying it’s sad because artist would know artist before their time on the regular. You wouldn’t have a lot of Dre beats or Kanye beats if they didn’t know the artist that they sampled from. Based off that logic, we would have never had “Nutin’ but a G thang” since the sample was a then 18 year old sample at the time of Leon Haywood’s “I wanna do something freaky to you”.
But if you really looked up to T.I. and Kanye etc. wouldn't you have seen interviews where they reference who they looked up to? They could have learned by 6 degrees of separation if they really cared about hip-hop. I grew up when all these classics where being released but I still know the older artists who's music was being sampled to make these classics.

Nowadays, the parents are in a different timeframe mentally. To a lot of the average 19 to 25 uear old, Tupac is "old school".
The interesting thing is...a lot of the newer music actually uses samples of older songs, a lot being music outside of the states. They just chop it up more, where a lot of the older generation looped samples or interpolated them.
