In the game programming there is called event flags and regional triggers. Since the region trigger is just around the arena and you made the event happened outside the region, the event flag didn't trigger. But if the developers used time trigger rather region trigger, we are still progamed to lose.
This make sense. Although im not really a game developer but more of a software engineer in training.
