  • MotoMan, for the first time, welcomes a McLaren on the show - the 2016 McLaren 570s. In this extended TECH REVIEW, MotoMan does not start at the usual place - the engine - rather, he begins at an area of expertise of an accomplished F1 constructor: Aerodynamics. From there, he goes on a deep dive of engineering of the entry level Mclaren that - not some crap marketing line - was literally shaped by learning from racing . . .

    This car is super interesting. It's not a Porsche Turbo Turbo, it's not a Ferrari 488, it's not even an Audi R8; its unique! For a quite specific customer basis, very cool car and design!

    A family at my daughter's private school has a McLaren...a 650S I think. At a school where expensive Mercedes, Teslas, Range Rovers, Porsches and the occasional Bentley is nothing new, this car showing up in that same orange paint made everyone say "OK, you win the car sweepstakes!". As for the design, I think McLaren's have grown prettier over the years. The first vehicles weren't that stylish at all but they are getting better. But even if I won the lottery, I'd never fit in one (you remember my frame) so it's a moot point. Still, fun to watch.

    Having had the fortune of test driving one today I can honestly say it’s an exquisite little car. I say little because whilst it’s anything but, when you have the wheel in your hands, you feel connected to it, part of it and the ride gives you the confidence to drive like you’ve never driven before! It’s also even prettier in real life...

    Best looking McLaren since the F1. Reason; It flows perfectly, almost like a bead of water could find itself from the front bumper to the rear without any issue (unless it finds a radiator)... The 675lt has some similarities to the r8 as far as looks go... This to me looks completely original and they didn't have to spend 100% on performance and aerodynamics, only 97% lol .. Im US and I wish I had enough things to sell to ever own one. Great vid sir!!!!!!!!!!

    Just watched your review on the McLaren 570s, excellent job by the way. I too am very impressed by what Mclaren has done since the MP12-4, I stopped by the Mclaren dealer in Tampa just to look around, I saw the 570s and couldn't believe how beautiful it was, then took it for a test drive and was even more impressed. Then I drove the 650s Spyder and my jaw dropped. This is coming from a guy who owns a Ferrari 458 Speciale and a F430 Scud. I bought the 650s Spyder and ordered a 570s. 😊

    #MotoManTV I absolutely love your reviews, the way you break down all the technical points; from design, engine (my only gripe I would love to be able to see the motor, what good is a tech marvel of you can't show it off, or clean it!) the way you breakdown the materials, and nuances. If I had to describe it the vehicle is muscular, the way 5% body fat looks over muscle good looks and all business Brooklyn New York

    I think Frank Stephenson who is American has done an outstanding job of fleshing out current McLaren design and for what the future direction could be. You can clearly see in the proportions that he took a touch of his F430 design and used that in the 570 series. It will be very interesting to see how MA executes the upcoming 570S Spyder design. Will it look like the other McLarens or will there be something new?

    MotoMan, the McLaren's 2895lbs is the *dry weight* (no fluids). I believe what would we normally call the curb weight (with fluids) is ~3100lbs. Still pretty light, but eliminating that additional 200lbs would require some serious magic (not just carbon fiber body panels) to pull off, that wouldn't be possible anywhere near the 570S's price point.

    • @MrFoof82
      @MrFoof82 Před 8 lety

      +john m I know and am aware of this, and that's still very light for what it is. However, a lot of reviewers, blogs, and magazines have been quoting the dry weight as curb weight because McLaren has provided only the dry weight for... reasons unknown. I'm just trying to ensure that people realize this is not a sub-2900 pound car.

    M'man - question without notice - why 19's on the front axle & 20's on the rear? Is it merely aesthetic or an engineering advantage?

  • @fkporsche1
    @fkporsche1 Před 7 lety

    MotorMan - love your technical review! Great job on the 570S. This new 570S has started to grow on me. I'm in a market for a high performance car. (Huracan, 488 and now looking, doing some reading on Mclaren). The mclaren had never caught my full attention. But the 570S drive pretty good. I like it.(steering sensation, good driving dynamic etc). To me, the mclaren may have a better driving feel.
    Now to answer your question! I think the 570S look very good when one see it up close. But when I step away 100ft from the mclaren. It looks okay. I mean the huracan would look more sexy up close and from a distance over 570S.
    Ferrari?! They are all sexy.

  • @rufusprime99
    @rufusprime99 Před 6 lety

    Yeah, I like the look. I like all the little peek a boo areas, I like the front splitter. I like the proportions as well, but don't like that the motor is so hidden. Also, the rear haunches remind me of a Cayman, and I can't decide if I like that or don't. Having said all that, I do like the Huracan better. The proportions of the Huracan are just a bit better, and the lines are just so tight. The Huracan looks like a Predator Insect. And that is a good thing.

    The only thing I don't like about the 570 is the gratuitous inclusion of the logo swirl in the headlights. Car design suffers when they use them as a canvas for clever innuendo external to the car itself. The interior makes you feel like you are on another planet though. Very well done.
