If you’ve never seen director Tarsem Singh’s 2006 film “The Fall” it is an absolute visual FEAST that would make for an amazing reaction
OK some of the effects are slightly better than Forbidden Planet 😂
Did you ever watch the OG Tron? If you haven't I think you'd appreciate and enjoy it!
What about the original Tron , way better than this one..
@@doobernow Does anybody see parts of the original Tron as plot point to Free Guy ? (original work stolen by bigger company?)
tron legacy is so criminally underrated man
Most definitely!
FACTS. the soundtrack for the movie was so memorable
@@amaury12x they’re making another one actually
@@amaury12x they will probably get somebody else to do the soundtrack sadly
Agreed. Was a blast in the cinema and just as good on previous watches. Too many people seem to focus on the admittedly back CG but it doesn't ruin the film for me.
“I fight for the user” Tron sacrificing himself will always give me chills
And we see he didn't die! So we all want a true sequel or 3rd installment.
@@UpUpDnDnLtRtLtRtBAStart It's confirmed we are getting a sequel with Jared Leto called Tron Ares
One thing I always enjoyed about Clu 2.0 is that he isn't really a "rogue" AI. He reminds me of what I was told in high school in my computer science class, "programs don't make mistakes, they do exactly as they're told" in regards to any errors that would occur when coding a simple program.
Like Hal.
A good villian dont know that is a villian. Just like Thanos on infinito war.
Just like Clu
Flynn didn't know that Clu would simply do what he was made to do. Straight line. No doubt. No hesitation. No mercy. 🙄
Hardware failure or 3rd party software can cause a program to behave in a way that the original creator did not intend thus creating "rogue" code.
exactly like in i can't remember which book but their was a sifi book i read and this man made a near omniscient lethal AI and told it to guard specific events and people in time but he made it have no care about what it did since it had to kill people who interfered with time and the universe but he made the mistake of telling it to like understand evil or something along those lines or work out how the soul works been a long time since i read the book but long story short when the machine wasen't doing its job it was kidnapping dimensional and temporal travelers and basically physically emotionally torturing them or psychically tearing their minds apart trying to work out a flawed question and when a group of people finally worked out what it was and got in it's lair some alternate dimension it was basically a horror slideshow of different people suffering from different time's and the premise of this artifical monster was some idiot set it very flawed parameters since it had no way of working out the question it kept going and you have to consider since it's realm existed outside the normal space/time of existence it could do this to anyone in reality forever pretty horrfying
I adored this movie as a kid. Watched it three times in the cinema, got the soundtrack, listened to the audiobook, played the videogame Tron Evolution (which also has an amazing soundtrack).
It's really an underappreciated treasure.
Glad you could see that too!
If you haven't you should watch the animated series Tron: Uprising. It's a little childish, but the inside view of the Grid is interesting.
@@rikerdavis2843 Childish? Man that show was DARK! AND BROODING! AND FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!!
@@sorabove its for children. Its a nice show about the ISOs . But the cartoon is for children.
I remember when this movie came out, and the reception was cold. I remember loving it. Don't know what rubbed people the wrong way.
Weird right??? I was always a fan of this movie.
It was the cookie cutter script.
I just think because of the original movie people were always going to hate on this no matter what. I genuinely enjoy this film. It's a good time.
Some Elements of the movie were very much different and the same as the original you could say people weren't ready for it
I think its partially Sam is a pretty cookie cutter protagonist, all of his one off lines are a bit lame "Now this i can do!" all the star power lands on literally all the other main rolls. He's serviceable as an actor, but I could care less because the vision, the audio visual flare, all of it is so brilliant that this is one of my favourite films.
Legitimately, one of the best films of the 2010s.
It’s super underrated
Wow so many reactors are suddenly checking out this movie, so happy that its getting the recognition it deserves as it holds up very well
Had no idea!! Happy to see it getting love too!
@@JamesVSCinema Yup, looking forward to watching your reaction tomorrow as I'm going to bed right now, but I know its a little thing but I love how whenever you upload a new video you always stick around for a bit interacting with people.
Its always nice to see a CZcamsr having a good relationship with their following.
Anyway and Goodnight and I hope you have a great day 👋😊
Just like Many parents suddenly care about 'their' children's education.
I do love me some Tron: Legacy. Dope soundtrack, crazy Jeff Bridges.
Hahaha he sure is crazy in this one
It's my preferred music when working. I play the whole thing straight through.
Top 3 soundtracks of all time for sure!!
I remember working out how long I suspect Flynn was in there, based on what's said in the film. I got some wild answers and said, "Nah, couldn't be that long..." But they put out an official guide with the timing and it works out to 1000 years from Flynn's perspective. He's literally older than Yoda.
I grew up loving the original, I was so excited for this to come out and I was thrilled it was a continuation of the story and not a reboot. I never understood the hate it got because as far as I can see it's an objectively good film. And everytime I hear the soundtrack, chills
The world just wasn't ready, i think. Reviews were pretty harsh at the time.
I never understood why the critics and general masses had such an icy response to this film, it’s so good! The cinematography, overall aesthetic, and the soundtrack are insane. I was also totally in love with the main character and Olivia Wildes character at the same time. I wanted her haircut so bad! 😂
Yeah one of the most under-reacted-to movies out there. This is really how you make a worthy sequel.
Absolutely!!
I love this movie. The only semi-legitimate criticism is the quality of the digital de-aging, but it’s one of the pioneers of it and the first ones through the door always get bloody
and quite frankly it matters only for the 1st scene, when it's actually meant to be young Flynn/Jeff. For CLU, who cares he's a program, everything is artificial about him anyway. Also, when the screen is full of CGI or heavy digital processing, CLU"s face looks less off. Only when all the rest is real, Flynn's young face looks very artificial.
They could have kept his face more hidden, or chose a different light (dark background with a single light source is where CGI has it easier). Instead, they decided to showcase their ground-breaking technology there, and, ironically, ended up with digital age correction that doesn't age well.
Anyway when the score alone gives you goosebumps, more than once during the movie, and every time you rewatch it, I think it makes it easier for the rest of the movie to be epic, too. The bike transition at the beginning is one of the best I can recall in a movie. I love "The Grid", the sustained 5th at the beginning gives me goosebumps too, and it's one of the simplest and most obvious things you can do in music, yet, the tone and sound design is unbelievable.
@@TheMule71 The thing is they didn`t just digitally de-age Jeff Bridges. They took scans of Bridges from the first film, put dots on his body, then did the same with Canadian stuntman John Reardon who had an identical body type that Bridges did in 1982 and overdubbed his voice over Reardon`s, however in some scenes if you can listen closely even with Bridges` voice dubbed over Reardon`s body CLU still pronounces certain words in a more Canadian-sounding way. Owen Best who played Child Sam and Anis Cheurfa who played Rinzler were also Canadian with Reardon and Best being from British Colombia and Cheurfa being French Canadian from Toronto.
I honest to god didn’t even notice it in the first part of the movie until the last time i watched it a few days ago
I never noticed that it was bad because I wasn't looking for it.
I still don't really see it because it's the intention that matters, the idea remained, that being a younger Jeff, which in my mind worked splendidly.
I’m older, early 50s, and saw the original Tron in the theater. I think this film is great. The digital Clu/young Kevin Flynn are one of the only things that doesn’t hold up. Great score. Great world building.
Absolutely. Hope we see more in the future!
CLU actually works. The uncanny valley of him is an unintentional artistic rendition of 2010s CGI, and for that... it works well! You can tell he is a program and, in a way, it's timeless. He's not a perfect copy and it emphasizes his irony as a character.
Digitally de-aged Flynn tho? No.
@@kaylons Honestly, Disney should just go back and re-do those few parts with the new technology we have today. I'm sure it wouldn't be a huge expense. Heck, CZcamsrs do it all the time just to show off their talents.
Despite having quality inconsequences, I reckon the digital Clu/Flynn make up for a stylistic device, displaying how the real Flynn got older and Clu didn't, he only became less real. Given the less real look through the mocap. It sets you up for feeling iffy about him. It works for me, I like it for that. :)
@@peterschruff3055 I like this interpretation
This is the only film I've ever seen in 3D that I came away thinking "that really improved the experience." They had all the scenes in the real world 2D, and all the scenes in the Grid in 3D. My favorite experience in a movie theater bar none. Also, I always felt like CLU's uncanny valley look actually enhanced the film.
I remember watching the teaser trailer online from San Diego Comic Con in 2010, where Clu from the original film chases a guy on a light cycle, the guy smashes into a wall but survives, and says, "Hey, relax, it's just a game..right?"
Clu says, "A game? I don't think so "
He uses his disc to kill the guy, then it cuts to:
TRON: LEGACY.
Experience it in IMAX.
Coming soon
Hahaha instant chills.
That bootleg video w/crowd reaction is somewhere on CZcams.
I remember going to the movie theater with my father and my little sister to watch this movie and it absolutely blew me away the music the crazy futuristic look was so cool. Hope you have a awesome Friday James 🙏🙏
Hahaha it’s so awesome hearing peoples experience with this one.
everytime i watch this movie, the first time the tron font comes in, and those 2 notes play, i always get chills
rinzler jumpin from a destroyed lightcycle, frontlippin in the air, opening another lightcycle and it constructs itself in mid air will always be one of the coolest things ive ever seen in my life
I saw this in theaters 4 or 5 times. It’s so good, and the soundtrack is so fire!
Also, Garret Hedlund deserves such a better career than he has. He’s so talented!
I feel like if they didn't give him a bunch of corny Will-Smith-one-liners like "That's what I'm talkin' about!" and "Another customer!" and "Have a nice swim!" the focus might have been a little more honed in on the actual acting.
Did you know Kosinski (the director) is a trained architect? You can really see this in the design of the stadium and the city that there was a professional at the helm.
I did not know that but this explains ALOT. Thank you!
17:50 If you want to see more back story of that one moment. You should watch Tron Uprising, it’s a prequel show to Tron Legacy. It sadly never was able to finish, but for what it was able to go on for, I think it’s an amazing show
Agreed 👍
Tron: Uprising on Disney+ goes deeper into the world and the characters. It's only one season but still really good for an animated show.
the soundtrack is so spectacular and epic 😭 still love it after years
I grew up as a fan of the original film that itself was not that well received until after. This film was true to its spirit and Genny expanded so much whist also not needing the audience to have seen that film which in itself deserves respect. For me the only issue is the style is so cool that it loses some dramatic intensity in the action. It's eye candy and all that but does the emotional content impact as hard as the likes of Aliens or Terminator 2 etc? Not comparing the films but I felt that was the only thing missing.. Until the end where Bridges has to stay and the stakes are clear and in the moment. Also the pacing on the middle is very slow. Everything else about the film is sublime. That soundtrack is perfect and I listen to it possibly more than any other. The VFX outside of de aged bridges is wow.
This movie alongside with Oblivion is my favorite sci-fi movies from Joseph Kosinski, everything is epic, soundtrack, cinematography, production design, casting, very underrated. Nice movie choice James! I'm glad you enjoying so much as I do.
Ah yes, the "criminally underated films from my childhood" duology is now complete, with both Speed Racer and Tron: Legacy.
I adore this film so much! It deserves so much more recognition!
Also, CGI Jeff Bridges works for me because he's a literal program. Also Bridges' performance as Clu is so damn riveting! Must have had a ton of fun playing a villain!
This movie is a great sequel, and it's arguably the best thing Disney has done the last 20 years.
lol somebody doesnt think very highly of the entire MCU
@@acidrain92 No.. you are absolutely correct. I don't.
@@Hooga89 I understand, and thats fine, but I wouldn't exactly call Tron Legacy a cut above your average Marvel film. Its really just the visuals and the score that set it apart.
Do you think highly of any of the Star Wars spinoffs? Rogue One is the best Star Wars film since the originals. And Mandalorian ain't bad.
@@simpleysims Solo was decent, Rogue One bleh Jyn Erso anyone? Such boring characters. Force awakens decent. Last jedi and rise of skywalker are cinematic disasters. Mandalorian was decent I watched maybe 5 episodes
The Tron Legacy soundtrack is one of my absolute favorite movie OST's ever. Like you said James, music is such an important design element of film. I have this soundtrack on my PC and phone and still listen to it all the time. Love your content, keep on that grind man!
I get such a strong memory of sitting in the theater for this movie and just feeling the soundtrack resonate physically and mentally. One of those rare transcendent experiences 🎵💜🎵
Man, this movie is one of my favourites. The smooth visuals and Daft punk's score was so perfect for this.
And there was a animated series called Tron Uprising which was set between the first movie and Legacy. It was awesome, but got cancelled after only one season.
The esthetic of this film is phenomenal.
Tron legacy remains my favourite movie of all time. I find the plot way better than people say, and I absolutely love the visuals. This movie feels like its from the 22nd century
this is one of my favorite movies!! love your commentary, i love the whole aesthetic of this movie, the visuals, the music, the action, it’s all so freakin awesome!
This movie is so underrated. The shots, editing and music are unforgettable. If you liked it you would also love the tron legacy concept short film that they made before the actual film. It’s badass.

Saw this in Imax opening night. Ahead of its time is a huge understatement.
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS FOR YEARS. Thanks you so much James!
This was the first "newer" 3D movie I saw with my father, who much like Kevin were pretty absent in my life. This was a turning point for him and my relationship. The father/son dynamic gets me every time, as I lost my father in 2019 just before covid. I miss him a lot and this movie reminds me of the battle I had to go through to get my Dad back. I'm tearing up just thinking about it. Great review. one day I may do one of my own.
I'm much older than you James. In fact, I had a similar relationship to the original Tron, to give you an idea of how much older. But I genuinely love this film. It's gorgeous and the music is fantastic. Plus, it's a really good story. I was super-bummed when the film tanked at the box office.
One of the film's few missteps was the Jeff Bridges cgi's young face. It was one of the first digital de-aging I think anyone had tried and it just didn't work. The tech wasn't there yet, and it looked bad on the big screen when the film was new. It certainly hasn't aged well. "Uncanny valley" and all that. I think it would have worked better if they'd kept his face hidden, and only shown it once in the digital world, where its strangeness might have worked better.
Still, a great film. I also like the director's follow-up Oblivion, though it too was a box office failure if I remember right.
I may be even older than you - (in fact - I'm exactly as old as the Star Trek franchise - you can do the math yourself. Heh.) And I loved the original Tron the same way. But recognized it's faults.
Tron Legacy was mind-blowing. A lot of people focus too much on the visuals and music (and they are awesome) while not noticing that it's a truly beautiful father-son story. Among other things.
The ideas abound in this film - The ISOs - sentience occurring spontaneously within the system unplanned by the creator - and changing HIM and his goals. But there's a piece of him - CLU - that CANNOT change with him. An ISO (Quorra) becoming a real person in our world. So many many possibilities and questions that you could follow from this film! And they left it all open to speculation! Even if there's never a Tron 3 - the INSPIRATIONS from this film could be incredible. I think we got a taste of it with Ready Player One - even though ultimately that may have been a misstep.
But really - to come back to the heart of it - LEGACY - truly is - at it's heart - one of the best father-son stories I've ever seen. Simple. Heartwarming. Yet it takes place in one of the strangest contexts imaginable - and pulls it off!
Thank you so much for bringing new fans to our community
Listening to your outro, it’s funny cuz literally the exact same thing happened to me. I originally saw Tron in theaters, and again a few years back. A few months back I thought about Daft Punk, then remembered Tron, listened to the whole movie soundtrack, then rewatched the movie while trying to focus specifically on the music (and obviously the dope effects and overall aesthetic). This shit will never cease to give me goosebumps man, Daft Punk forever. I also love their cameo and how seamlessly they fit into the whole aesthetic without even having to change anything. They were MADE for this movie/franchise.
Man this soundtrack was such a huge part of my childhood. This and The Last Samurai were two OSTs I had on repeat for so long. I get chills when I hear any piece of music from either of those films.
I remember watching this in the cinema and i was stunned by the visuals, the soundtrack and the story, its a film that has stayed with me for the longest time and i'm still sad we never got a sequel to this film because this film really deserves one in my opinion

Tron, the most advanced, adaptive, powerful security program ever made returned to himself, fighting off his reprogramming/repurposing in the end to try to stop CLU. That's why his lights changed back from the yellow/gold of reprogramming back to white as he sank into the Sea of Simulation.
One of the best looking and sounding movies ever made
Yo there with Blade Runner 2049 honestly.
Yo I don't care what anyone says, this movie was absolutely badass! The enhanced visuals that still evoked the original, but with more detail, the lighting accents that bloom around the glassy black environments, the camera angles and movement, and of course Daft Punk's AMAZING original score. To this day I rock that Rinzler track.
My fav thing about Tron Legacy is the father & son story. It is so darn beautiful! And, in this digital fairy tale, feels so realistic. It adds realism & reminds us of what truly is important in life. Very well acted, too. My fav line in the whole movie is Kevin's line to his son; "I would have given it all up for one more day with you!" That is one of the greatest lines I have ever heard any father tell his son in any film! So much love right there!
this movie is a underrated masterpiece imo
The visual effects with all the neon lights and such is just incredible and so pleasing to the eye
remember seeing this in theaters when i was a kid with a friend of my dads and his daughter, it was honestly so surreal experiencing this movie on release, crazy ahead of its time

Also this was the first time that they used anti-aging CGI in a movie (to my knowledge).
It has gotten a lot better since then.

Omg your story about knowing daftpunk but only getting to know who daftpunk was after first watching Tron is literally me
Hey what's up man! This was a treat. I'm 36 years old and used to watch the original Tron when my folks and I lived in London. I love Tron. It's rad to see your reaction to this. I enjoyed Legacy. The soundtrack is incredible and unfortunately I wasn't expecting a response from my friends when we saw Legacy in the theater. They hated it. Dude, especially with gas prices these days. A light cycle would be dope. Hope you're well and again and again ty
This is, to this day, the only movie I’ve ever watched in Digital 3D that was worth the extra cost.
Troy Baker is who you're thinking of. Nolan, Troy and Yuri Lowenthal are the GOATS and are in EVERYTHING - games, animations, cartoons and anime. They have crazy ranges too. Sometimes I can pick them straight away and be like "ah there's Troy" but sometimes even years later I'll see on iMDB or wikipedia and find out Troy or Yuri played some character and I was like "Oh sh*t that was Troy?!". Nolan North is a master too and together with his good friend Troy they have a podcast or at least do a lot of stuff together like videos and whatnot. I truly love legacy voice actors and I really hate that Hollywood is giving these roles to film stars I really hate it
I saw this 4 times when it came out. This film is just so underrated, and I can't comprehend why. I absolutely love it. Pleasure to watch you enjoy it as much as I do.
I still love it and appreciate all the talents and works.

If you enjoyed this film, I'd recommend watching the series Tron Uprising. It only had one season but it's really good and currently on Disney Plus
My friends and I were totally geeked out over this movie when it released. We did some number crunching based on information provided in the movie and figured out that Flynn was stuck inside the grid for right around 1,000 years.
Also definitely check out Tron: Uprising.
Your excitement for this film. I can relate so much 😅 love this film haha. It's such a vibe 🔥
Correlating it with life. Exactly! You took the words right out of my mouth.
I loved that TRON LEGACY happened, after all the time since I saw TRON at the cinema as a kid. Really even the original TRON had little to do with those aspects of Disney. After their break from normal affairs with 1979's THE BLACK HOLE, the first to carry a PG rating (their efforts ultimately pushed towards what would become Touchstone Pictures), that paved the way for them to have a go at something like TRON - I get the feeling a lot of the execs signed off without really knowing what Lisberger was bringing to fruition, and even though they had the original in the bag, something of those same forces brought forth TRON LEGACY. It's just been that kind of a series - a niche that built on the original movie whose concept was such a challenge for the time, both effects-wise and conceptually, and yet managed to be fabulous. I feel that Kevin Flynn and the Dude were pretty much cut from the same cloth - that each could've been what the other was if their lives had been jumbled up.
Right when Sam got beamed by the projector I got an ad and it was the most surreal timing
Still in love with this movie still watch it sometimes

Such a good movie. I was Tron obsessed for a solid couple years and yet they did nothing with it. Honestly makes me so sad, but so happy because it happened.
Bro! Something tells me you would LOVE the snot out of Tron: Uprising! It was a short lived tv series that takes place between the first Tron and Legacy. It deals a bit more with the events leading up to Legacy. And omg it’s so worth checking out!
