Hey Scotty, I’m a young guy with my first car. Don’t know too much about cars and I just wanted to say thank you for your help. I always come to your channel for my problems and a lot of the times it directs me in the right direction. I noticed this morning while driving to work, the check engine light came on but it wasn’t flashing. I now know I shouldn’t of freaked out entirely because like you said normally when it’s flashing it’s a serious problem. I’m gonna head over to autozone and have them scan it for me and see what my minor problem might be, thank you again Scotty !

Ok this helped me out alot! I'm on my husband's page and my Check Engine light came on about 25 minutes ago. I was coming home from seeing him on his lunch break and it came on. It doesn't keep flashing it just stays on. I'm glad I can still drive it without having any serious damage. I have to drive a 2.5 hour drive to my parent's house and drive 2.5 hours back to our house. Thank you for your tips!

You can get that $40 scan tool right now on sale at Amazon for $18.99. I goes up and down but usually it's about $22 on there and gets the basics done.
I was getting high NOx readings on my smog test so it was suggested I try to clean out my EGR and intake by running Deep Creep through a line I felt a vaccuum in and then it threw P0300-303 misfire codes that would not go away. It's a 96 Toyota Camry, so I was kind of forced to buy that. But it's a major timesaver.

Hello Scotty, how are you I am a big car enthusiasts and like to work on my car as well I recently changed the exhaust manifold on my car and put an exhaust header instead for some extra power, as I was removing the bolts I noticed on manifold stud had broken inside the cylinder head and with my luck it had to be one of the studs on the corner right, I got worried but proceeded to install it, and noticed the side with the broken stud was not nice and flush with the cylinder head , I tried to use the broken stud to tighten it,it screwed right in but did not tighten it, but all the other bolts where tight, so I got everything all buttoned up and started the car, and just what I expected the check engine light came on, could that be the problem? the car runs and drives fine, but I also noticed the idle would change from normal to a bit higher at times, I really hope it's just an exhaust leak and nothing serious, hope you can help me with this problem, thanks Scotty great channel.

that's crud in the fuel system. there are still things inside that can corrode (stainless steel is often cheaply made and will still rust) or things that can get into your gas tank from bad gas at a station. Rust will not be stopped by a fuel filter as it's too fine, and will clog injectors.

OBD II is for cars sold in the US after 1995. Previous to that, they are OBD I, and really old ones have no system in em at all. If a code is erased and not fixed, it would just come back. ONLY high level scan computers will read codes that have been erased and that haven't come back yet though.

it will reset if the problem has been fixed. BUT evap leaks can be tons of places, requiring a dealer level scan computer AND a smoke machine to find and fix, they can be absolute cows.
