  • This is the full build video of my 1978 Holden UC Torana Hatchback.
Restoring, modifying and bringing the Torana back to life was a labour of love and something I am very proud of.

I'm a pretty new watcher to your channel and am really enjoying the galant build. I learned to drive in a manual '73 galant before I saved enough to but my own car which was a three on the tree HT Kingswood. You're an awesome fabricator to be able to change that UC rear end. I always like the UC front end but I also get why you changed it to the iconic look. After all, the UC phase was holden moving away from the muscle car era in favour of the very new commodore at that stage. Keep up the greqt vids, love your work and expertise.

The galant was my Mum's car and I was blessed that she allowed me to work on it as a kid. The rust repairs were crap (and mostly bog) before my grandfather taught me to weld properly. Well before the days of point and shoot might welders for backyard use. God knows how I did it with a stick and the warpage...... thus the reason for the bog, but, it was all a learning experience. I always wanted to put a 2.6 in it when the signals came out 😅

      WOW!
Thanks David for such kind words.
It is the support and comments like yours that really go a long way to pushing the motivation and continuing to get after it. Really do appreciate the words and your story.
I also did rust repair on an old kingswood using a stick welder (before I could afford a mig). The quality of the repair was very poor but I started my learning journey which is what it is all about.
Thanks heaps for taking the time to watch and comment. Greatly appreciated. I hope you stick around and get something out of what I do in the shed. Cheers.

Good job mate what a wicked build 👍🏽 The amount of satisfaction you get from doing it all yourself is awesome and all worth it when you fire it up and go for a drive.

I’m not really the car club type…some people like that stuff but not really my speed 😄

Good job bro, looks like SS for real. I rebuilt a Charger back in the 80's into a RT replica I was doing college in Emerald Qld through the week and going home every week end in the next two towns away, there was a identical genuine SS hatch that used to frequent the local drag and car scene it was fast and tidy. I've been where you have 8 year rebuild on a 351 XD S pack. Good job bro.

Best thing you can do with a UC Torana is turn it into a LH or LX. I can appreciate your journey as I have been restoring a 67 Camaro in the back shed for the last 7 years.

    • @Intheshedwithdarren
      @Intheshedwithdarren  Před 28 dny

Thanks for the comment Jim. Yeah these projects can really drag out. I went a few decent stretches where not much happened to the car because I was working on other stuff with the time I had available.
UC Toranas have a place. I know why some people love the look but I also appreciate that others really dislike them. I much prefer the LX look but I don’t mind the UC front….but I don’t like the tail lights - at all.
      Cheers! 🍻

@@Intheshedwithdarren All good my first car was a LH Torana G Pack I went through 3 x motors 2 x gear boxes and one diff, man I miss that car. I think the UC where part of the times, it was a pity GM didn't include a V8. I got 6 more days left of welding on my Camaro before I start the body filler stage. Cheers

    Nice looking Sunbird.
You probably should of removed the beaver panel, I have built a few and from the amount of rust in the rest of the car, there is definitely some on the rear rails.
