Holden Torana gets a dyno run

  • This engine was built 7 years and 9000km's ago and I've never checked its output. Old school technology was never going to see huge numbers, but I always thought it was good for 300hp at the crank. I forgot to remove the a/c belt which probably stole a few hp too!

      @@blairo15 I think it is the fact that everyone is throwing an LS into old Holden's these days. It gives instant hp but you are losing that old school look, sound and feel. There are days I want to throw an LS into mine but then it will lose a certain charm. It's a hard one to decide on.

    One happy dyno
    Honestly hub dynos show higher figures than roller dynos
    Don’t think I’m putting you down or anything
    But with the nine inch and not high comp engine I honestly think it would be closer to a genuine 175-200 rear wheel
    A really good healthy 5 litre average 155-165rwhp without mods put a nine 9️⃣ inch into the driveline and you lose 45-65 hp
    Over the std banjo diff you would be better off with a built borgwarner out of a vn vp commodore lighter and plenty strong enough for your power levels

    • @markgrovenor389
      @markgrovenor389  Před 16 dny

      Who knows? I did ask about the calibration before the dyno run and whilst it hadn't been done recently, they were confident it was accurate. Hub dyno's are a direct drive so they will be higher if that means no possible wheel spin from drum dyno's. As far as the engine goes, it is 30 thou overbore with flat top pistons and over 10:1 compression, Crane 884401 cam, 700 double pumper carb and open exhaust with extractors. I agree with the 9" diff sapping power but overall, I'm confident it puts out a healthy figure.

      The HB Torana (the one that nobody talks about) was a rebadged Vauxhall Viva. Subsequent Torana models were an evolution of the HB, and also incorporated GM styling cues so you can see similarities to other GM cars. Same story as the Opel/Vauxhall Rekord and Holden Commodore. The Holden Gemini was a locally manufactured Isuzu Gemini. Great Aussie cars! Unfortunately Australia never got any derivatives of the Opel Ascona or Opel Manta.
