Game is bad. These were the nice parts of a four hour stream. A lot of the time I felt like I'd rather be playing other games. I kept playing hoping the game would pick up or improve or something interesting would happen but it didn't. Then I played for another five hours the next day and it still didn't.

God Fallout 4 was a travesty
It's the voice that fucking kills it for me. So much could be fixed by keeping the main character silent. What the fuck was Bethesda thinking? Do they care nothing for character creation and role playing?

You can mod New Vegas to have better combat but you can't mod FO4 to turn it into an RPG.
I love New Vegas because it's got such a strong core game and strong RPG mechanics. Even Skyrim has a decent framework by comparison to Fallout 4 but Fallout 4 is just so stripped down of features. You can do so much less than ever and you have so much less space to do it in, with smoke and mirrors all around to try and trick you into thinking there's depth to the gameplay.

Fallout 4, joining the ranks of Fable 3 and Dragon Age 2 in terms of quality. And the critics love it.
I don't think the critics liked it as much as the score it has on metacritic implies. Just like most games nowadays, I think the hype for this game got to many of the critics and they all rated it extremely high because they wanted the game to be amazing instead of the mediocre game we got.
Dragon Age 2 was the reason I was worried about a voiced protag in Fallout 4.
I always like it when Metacritic illustrates a clear disparity between the critical acclaim and the player base reception. I feel like judgement of mainstream published game critics is beginning to carry less and less weight as time goes on. I want to believe people are growing wise to them.
+novajam the only main stream critic I really still listen to is Total Biscuit. Besides him the best way to decide to buy a game nowadays isn't from critical response but from streamers and you tubers who you like and their gameplay.
Dragon Age 2 is not NEARLY as bad as fable 3 or fallout 4- it was just rushed as HELL. It's like the evil counterpart to new vegas.

What's the point of luck affecting crits if there's no random chance to determine crits. I literally never used that shitty crit meter my entire playthrough, which will likely be my 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 playhtrough.
Luck determines how fast that meter fills (wish it had more effect on skills though, only modifies fortune finder and scrounger so overall not very useful by itself). There's perk where you can store crits, crits are 100% chance to hit. So what you can do is a string of 4, 100% accuracy crit headshots at 2.5x damage each. Combine this with a skill that has a chance to fill your crit meter on any hit and now you one shot headshot everything from any distance. But yeah I also didn't have any interest of doing another playthrough of Fallout 4

I have like 1500 hours on New Vegas, and I thought Fallout 4 would kill my drive to play it, but after completing my first Fallout 4 Playthrough, I went back on New Vegas, and just ended up playing through it again, and I haven't wanted to play Fallout 4 again since.
Boy, do I love the creation engine, runs like shit and looks like shit! At least it's consistent :D

It's a backlash because of the hype. With all that was being expected of the game, I'm surprised that people don't rail against it more. These games will never be able to satisfy everyone that loves them.

Their most advanced technologies were a suit of highly advanced power armor making heavy use of ceramic armor and a nuclear fusion reactor, a tilt-rotor aircraft based on pre-war designs, a sentient artificial intelligence (possibly derived from alien technology), the ability to indefinitely preserve human brains in a functional state (using alien technology) and integrate them as the processor in a robot, and a highly advanced multipurpose medical gel (derived from alien technology).
In come the Institute in Fallout 4- an organization comprised of survivors from the fallout-equivalent of MIT. Somehow, they have managed to develop technology far in excess of the enclave (who have LITERAL ALIEN TECHNOLOGY AT THEIR DISPOSAL, and who have the knowledge of the best, brightest, and richest of the pre-war world to work off of). Long-range, untethered teleportation. Highly advanced robots- sentient robots, even, that don't suffer from the same inevitable insanity issues that other AI in fallout have fallen prey to. Literally vat-grown human beings. Somehow, this organization that exists entirely within a cave somewhere under Massachusetts that was initially populated by professors, students, and a few maintenance staff managed to not only survive, but to gather the resources and to build and design hyper-advanced technology within 200 years of the nuclear holocaust.
The Institute is legitimately the worst part of Fallout 4, and that's bad considering how bad every other part of the game is.

I'm not 100% sure. I recorded these streams with separate audio tracks for the game and my voice thinking I could master it later to have a better dynamic range, but I think that experiment failed. I've been having real thoughts about getting a nicer quality microphone so I can just record better sound from the outset. Right now I'm using a generic brand cardioid microphone from a electronic supply store and I run it though a small pre-amplifier. I feel like it makes my voice sound more sharp and abrasive than it really is though.

I can't believe audio hardware made me gay
I mean, I'm pretty sure Skyrim has a lot of these problems as well, but people love it to death. Most conversations limit you to very few dialogue options that usually say "Yes I'll do the thing", the only difference is Fallout 4 gives you 4 different ways to say it, you can kill a giant by getting on a rock or object they can't reach you at and shoot them with arrows much like you got in the bus with Swan, the AI is pretty dumb, the weapons are generally similar with only a few classes of weapon that just get higher damage stats, and it's a pretty shallow RPG.
Mods fix a lot of that, even overhauling many of the game's systems, in fact I'm finding the Wildcat Combat Overhaul to be a lot of fun without changing the game from the ground up, but Skyrim has had 5 years to accumulate a massive range of user generated content. I think that, given time, Fallout 4 will gain the same following.
And get ready for Elder Scrolls 6 to be even worse!
TES6: High Rock will feature a streamlined three skills system of melee, magic and ranged. All schools of magic are combined into one. It's an action game with a perk tree and you play an Imperial agent (male or female, fully voiced) that fights against the Thalmor. A season pass is available for pre-order for the 4 DLC packages and costs as much as the base game. Two of the DLC packages are special furniture you can build for your house.
Don't forget that you'll once again play as a Dragonborn, but this time a more powerful version and there will be 100 prophecies written about you. Each "city" will be 2-3 houses, an Inn, and a small shop. And the main villain will be a daedric prince (any of them, it doesn't matter). Also the game will emphasize settlement building more than the actual quests (that being the main quests and the same "radiant" side quests over and over).
Please stop giving Bethesda ideas. The more streamlined they make their games, the worse they get. Skyrim was pretty fun but compared to Morrowind or Oblivion, it is pretty streamlined. I just want a big open world game thats complex. I hope Bethesda learns from the Witcher 3 that open world games can be complex and profitable. The worst thing about this game besides the skills is the sidequests. Sidequests don't need to be retrieval quests every time where all you do is clear a place of bad guys. The Witcher 3 also showed this perfectly with every sidequest and witcher contract had a story behind it and didn't go as straight forward as you would imagine. I hope Bethesda learns from this in a good way instead of thinking they will make more money if thye simplify their games more. I don't want the Fallout series and the Elder Scrolls series to become as basic as most FPS games are nowadays.
Noah Anderson Fallout 4 had one interesting and fun side questline and it was the Silver Shroud, the rest were so repetitive that it feels like an Assassins Creed game... Well maybe not that bad, but still bad.
The simple fact is that Bethesda are lazy. Look no further than their continued insistence on using the same Jurassic Frankenstein engine for their games. And with how many people went out and bought enough fucking copies of Fallout 4 to flood a small country, they know they don't have to actually try when it comes to making their games anymore. The hype train will just spirit them to riches.

Tbh i've enjoyed Fallout 4 so far, but then again, i haven't actually done anything with the main quest, i just wander around cities while kinda creating my own story.
I really hope the next one is more like New Vegas, i'm 80% sure that once i finally force myself through the main quest of 4 i'm going back to NV to spend another 300 hours on a single character

@mikek17 I don't know if this comment is intended to have a sarcastic tone or not. If I'm just inferring that my own I apologise, but it got me wanting to talk about pipe guns and Fallout 4 a bit anyway.
I don't hate that they're there and I can understand homemade guns turning up in a post-apocalypse. They just suffer from the same problems that the rest of the lineup of weapons suffer from in Fallout 4. The Borderlands-style way that weapons are randomised with certain attributes feels like a cheap smoke and mirrors way to hide how little meaningful variety there is. There's more modifications available for most weapons than the number of base weapons there are to begin with. Then every gun fill the niche of almost any other gun through the application of the right mods so it's just a homogenized mess.
On a piece of the Fallout 4 concept art for the pipe guns I remember a note saying something to the effect of "pipe guns were designed from the perspective of a wastelander that has no knowledge of firearms trying to build a firearm" which is a concept I just can't get my head around. If you've got no idea how a gun works how can you just magic yourself up pistol? The best you could hope to come up with would just be a little zip gun that uses a rubber band and a nail for a striker.
The examples you link to, they're homemade certainly but there's undeniable craftsmanship that's gone into a lot of them. Time and effort in a situation where you might not have access to a lot of advanced tools. Fallout 4 pipe guns just look like bundles of trash that were put together by a child who got into his dad's tool shed. Chunky and samey and with no regard for the person who has to and operate the things. It just has the basic silhouette of a gun and stops there. I suppose I'm supposed to think the person that made it said "eh good enough" when they were done cause the artists and modellers evidently did. The unique versions you find often look identical to the non unique too though this is a problem with Bethesda games that goes way back.

Yes my comment of course was serious (but "Bethe$da" is just one of my favorite Satiric Misspellings) and it really disturbs me as you said that the Bethesda developers had in their head that mr. joe blow the raider is able to make a gun (with modern NATO ammunition nonetheless) and payed no attention to realism. especially when it comes to realism. But what's even worse for me than the fact that the pipe gun exists, (1) guns have no durability--I mean, come on you can't expect a gun made out of random shit to stick together forever, I thought that because Bethesda added durability to each power armor part, they might at least be able to add durability to each gun part but I guess that's too much to ask of Bethesda
and also (2) this "100% sandbox weapon modding" makes no sense in terms of realism either, I can have .22 rifle and all of a sudden chamber in .50 BMG, with out even needing to change the barrel, this makes absolutely no sense at all in the real world
I mean, Bethesda had so much potential with expanding the work that Obsidian did in New Vegas with gun modding, but they ultimately failed because they didn't even consider what makes settlement building, gun crafting, or any king of customizing fun, that is variance. I mean, some things you put on your gun are just straight upgrades with no downside but weight (which no one cares about) and it's the same for settlements, there're no downsides to using larger generators because they have infinite power without a source, and it's the same for Power armor where your customization is just an upgrade, and even the same thing for the new robots because they don't need power (but somehow power armor does?) and they can be decked out with OP guns and become lethal killing machine (until you level up and see a baddy with 200 armor [fallout4-mod.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/12/High_Level_Scale-3.png])
at which point they are suddenly useless.
Overall the ONLY thing I was excited about before Fallout 4 release was customization (I thought it would be even better than NV, I thought power armor would be like Powered Power Armor mod, etc.) but it seems like they didn't even try, compared to other games that offer the same things.

I think you gotta go into the systemprefs ini and turn off v-sync or some shit to fix the framerate. PC version released with a locked 30 fps so you need to turn that off in one of the .ini files. Oh, but don't go above 60 because physics are tied to your framerate (playing at 144fps means you can only jump like 2 inches off the ground and you run at hyperspeed) and using terminals can freeze you in place if your framerate is too high.
