Thats it!!! I NEED a hotwire tool in my craft mess. 😊
Cool tip I just learned about cutting foam. It gets so static charged and sticks to everything! Use Static Guard and mist it, then it'll be a lot easier to clean up.
Nice job Derek
“No rulers around” says the guy who can spot one pixel difference in a design
Hahaha. Accurate.
@@VanOaksProps These are funny comments coming from both of you guys 🤣
Right?!
Can't wait for part 2!
Thanks, Kirvin!
UK here, I might be wrong, but I think the broken column isn't broken due to age, but was made broken. I think it represents "a life cut short" we have one here at my local cemetery 'Bocking Cemetery' there is an ancient graveyard here at aside from the new graveyard which has one.
If you ever need some inspiration and some photos, just ask. We have graveyards nearby here in Essex that are so old, they have skull and crossbones on them (plague era maybe).
Hi from the Pacific northwest Thank you for sharing your technics You are AMAZING and so talented. You have inspired me. I look forward to trying several of your props. Keep the videos coming. Thanks again ❤
Thank you so much!
This Is Sweet. also im excited for Part Too.😀😃
Oh man. I cannot wait to watch the 2nd video! This is gonna be awesome!
Quality as usual Derek! Motivation to keep building and prepping my Halloween stuff!
Thanks Stephen!
Another fabulous video and can’t wait for the conclusion. Your creativity always leaves me astonished!
Thanks Jason!
So far it looks very, very cool! I can't wait so see the final result. Again an awsome tutorial, thank you :-)
Thanks Peter!
Nice so far. I liked the hack of using PVC wrapped in sandpaper for the routed edges.
Yeah, it’s a handy one!
Well done, love the process and can’t wait for part 2!
Thanks buddy!
Oh wow! Loads of cool effects in this video! Love the clever use of this foam pipe insulation to recreate the effect of a traditional base! Looking forward to seeing part 2!!
Thanks so much
Omg I can’t wait to see this all done! So cool!

Looking awesome already Derek, can’t wait to see the progress! Super fun! Thanks for sharing!🎃😄👍
Thanks dude!
Thanks for sharing. Echoing others can't wait for Part Two... I really enjoy watching your process of execution.
Thanks for watching!
This is genius! I never thought of trying that Haunted Mansion effect inside a tombstone/monument! Thank you for sharing and I can't wait for part 2!!
Thanks for watching!
Oh snap, I just realized it’s only half a year til Halloween. I better get busy.
That's right! Better get on it!
Can't wait
Very cool. New to the channel. Love the work so far. I've been a wood worker for years and I still make mistakes routing. I can only imagine how steady you have to be to do foam.
Always impressed with how amazing your projects look! Thank you so much for sharing.
Thank you so much!
I was mesmerized...I can’t wait to see part 2 also!
Thanks, Sharon!
Very cool! Lots of great ideas and inspiration.
Thanks Ray!
Going to look awesome, can’t wait for part 2!!!
Thanks Jason!
Oh my gosh! I just now found this and now I gotta find part 2!!!!
first off, looking forward to the next part, as a fellow maker i LOVE your channel. I am in the process of setting up my workshop this year. Also ive been following your channel for over a year now, but this is the first time i noticed your arm difference, so glad to see your not letting it define you, just like my housemate who lost her arm, she isnt letting it define her as well. Have a spooky day.
Glad you’re enjoying it!!
Thank for sharing. This is looking wonderful so far.
Thank you! 😊
Excellent project, Derek! I enjoyed the clever combination of haunted bust illustion with a grave monument. Looking forward to the finish in Part 2! Keep up the great work.
Thanks for checking it out!!
A man after my own heart. Rocking the HM monuments and bookcase following trick. Love it.
It’s a good one.
I can see applications of this in my office.
Jasper's awesome, great to see something from both your minds! :)
Yes, he is!
Love it! Cant wait to incorporate this!
Thanks so much
Derek, you got me having to make another prop for this year. Thank you sir. And I think Jasper is going to see some orders being placed from this. I love chicken props.
You’re very welcome. I agree.
This is a fun project and its fun to see you out building. I feel like its staring at me 😲
It is! LOL
End it on a cliff hanger. 😮
I can't wait to see how this turns out. This is a brilliant way to expand on the following head concept.
Thanks!
Sorry! It was running long and I wanted to give it the attention it deserved rather than skip over stuff or have a crazy long video.
No apologies needed. I think it's the smart decision. It will also help anyone who is using it for reference. More detail and less time scrolling through the video to find the spot you need.
I agree. Can't wait to see part 2! Great work man. I would love to see a build for a creepy tree...perhaps using the concrete tube? I know people have done that before, but I would love to see your methods.
Maybe in the future or if someone is looking to have one built, since we don't have the space to store one in our garage.
@@VanOaksProps I hear ya. Storage for props is definitely an issue.
Great video
I love your videos.
Looking forward to seeing your next part 2 video 🎃💀👻🧟♀️
Thanks Susie!
New subscriber here. I love your work! I do this sort of thing for a living.
Thanks!
Thank you, Lynn!
Looks amazing even without painting!!
Thanks!
I needed a spring prop build to distract me from my giant facade build so I may just tackle this. Ive wanted a column style stone for a while. The weatherstripping thing was genius
You should!
Love it! I need to start making props asap
Go for it!
You are amazing at what you do ☺️🏆🏅👋👋👋👋👋👋👋
Love your videos 💞
Thank you very much!
Another great video. Thanks !
Thank you!
Very cool thanks so much for sharing
Thanks for watching!
I’m rather new at finding and subscribing to your channel and wanted to say thank you for the water/gorilla glue tip. I wasn’t aware that it was water activated 🤦🏻♀️, and using glass cleaner in place of water to thin paints-had no idea. Loving the channel and content! 👍🏻
Thanks for the sub and welcome!
First off thanks for the videos! Next where did you get the red bust on your shelf in the background in the beginning of the video?? I NEED IT :)
It’s a 3d print from a file on cults3d.
Good job Derek!
Thanks!
Is it time for part 2 yet!?! Ugh....I guess I can wait....👻
Hahaha. Gotta film it first.
I have the two busts from the haunted mansion in my front window last year.
Nice! It’s a great effect.
I would put it right next to the candy slide
Hell yeah!
Stealing the fluting idea for some tubes I have. I have always wanted them to look like columns. Cant wait to see how you paint this to complete the look. Again , Thank you for sharing your projects with us. I know it takes time to film and edit every week or so and to clean tiny foam pieces off of yourself .......
Go for it!
Excellent! It's like therapy watching you make stuff. Not that I need therapy... And not to be a nag, but I hope you're cleaning up all the foam particles that all this work creates. Micro plastics are becoming a real problem in the oceans, and even if you live in Kansas (I have no idea where you live), they'll get there eventually. Ok, public service announcement over. I love watching you work, you're so creative. Keep it up! Thanks!
Absolutely. I keep my broom and shop vacuum nearby.
Pipe insulation is the same material as Pool Noodles. You Don't Need GLUE for them. A Heat Gun to heat up the foam then pressed together BONDS the foam
Very true. I tried that and found that the pipe insulation melted more than I cared for, so I switched over to barge cement.
Very curious to see how you weatherproof your cardboard tube!
That'll be in part 2. It's pretty straightforward, actually.
I thought the bust would be on the top of the column but I actually like this lower version. Looks like an ankle biter
Ha! He’ll get’cha
Ok, so now if I get a chance to see your haunt in person, I'm bringing a yardstick with me! LOL Just joking. Loving this so far! Can't wait for part 2!
🤣🤣🤣
Very interesting, there are tons of creativity in there. What you spray before the glue is water? I suppose it facilitates adhesion or does it favor curing?👍
Yes, the glue is water activated.
I would've scrapped some of the edges off the tube so It looks more realistic. But that's just me.
Gotta leave something for part two… 🤣
Hi Derek, Awesome prop Where could I get one of the haunted mansion busts from?
There’s a link in the video description.
I was wondering how you might achieve the fluting. What was true genius was your distressing of the fluting! Money! With these videos coming out regularly, you must finally be getting on top of your Halloween to do list for the year.
Thanks. Oddly enough this wasn’t on my to do list. I actually don’t have a list anymore and I’m not even sure where this monument is going to go once it’s done. Lol. Storage aka haunter cryptonite.
@@VanOaksProps How do haunters turn $40 dollar props into $583 dollar props? Storage.
Awesome video. The question, I may have missed this in a prior video, what do you spray prior to using gorilla glue and why?
It’s water, because that’s what the instructions say. 🤣
@@VanOaksProps LOL, Dang, I never read them. I just figured glue, put on it will dry. Thanks and excellent work. Thanks for posting
Does the expanding glue ever cause you problems with pushing things apart? I have used PL300 which I don't particularly like but there is no expansion. I have a lot of gluing to do for my cemetery columns and have to reevaluate what glue to use.
It’s not too bad. I typically just do dots of glue rather than streams. It helps to minimize any potential expansion. I also think the skewers help a lot.
I live in Pittsburgh and every so often it likes to just hurricane here for no reason. Crazy winds, tons of rain, etc. So I know I could put a stake in in the tombstone and hammer into the ground but is there anyway I can weight it or something?
You can always try it. We never get weather here in Los Angeles, so the rebar is typically sufficient.
Looking good. I thought you were going to vacuform it yourself.
Nope. Jasper's sculpt was too good and he'll have them available for purchase soon. So it was a good opportunity to support my artist friend.
I've got to get a router bit one day....
You should. They’re great. Messy. But great.
Forgive my ignorance, but what type of foam do you recommend?
Xps foam. It’s typically sold under the name “foamular”
I see you spraying before using the gorilla glue... what is in the spray bottle? Water or something else?
Correct. Gorilla glue is water activated.
Also, do you own a warehouse to keep all this in??!!! :o)
Nope. This one will either replace something or will be sold to someone with more space
8:46 - is that a DIY hot-wire foam cutter?
It’s from Hotwire Foam Factory.
Is that water you are spraying before the gorilla glue?
It’s is. Gorilla glue is water activated.
Did I miss it some how where can I get the bust???
They’ll be available next week at chickenprops.com
I spoke too soon. They’re available now! www.chickenprops.com/p/statues.html
How do I find part 2
Following Bust Halloween Prop - Part 2
czcams.com/video/m8cHYP4Fo5o/video.html
Why are you spraying water before gluing ? I have never seen that before !
It’s what Gorilla Glue instructions say to do.
@@VanOaksProps well that would answer my question I never used Gorilla Glue LOL
