This was honestly the best vlog on Greenland, I've ever seen. I much prefer this style of vlogging, where the traveler interacts with the locals and delves deep into the history and culture. This was so cool and interesting to watch. Most people don't know Greenland has ruins.

Saw your video on Doha airport and noticed you had been in my home country Greenland. Very nice video! although Qaqortoq is not the most southern town in Greenland, Nanortalik is. And the thing with mosquitoes.. it's not like that everywhere in Greenland. My hometown Narsaq which is close to Qaqortoq does not have that problem if I remember correctly, haven't been there in years. Nuuk also does not have that problem in the city, but as soon as you leave the city of Nuuk and head in nature, the mosquitoes are everywhere. In two years you can fly directly to the capital, Nuuk. They are upgrading the landingstrip to fit larger planes. I suggest you come back to see more of Greenland in the future. Great video.

3:53- That church built from fitted rocks was witness to the last historical complete record of the Norse Greenlander life. Namely, a Scandinavian couple named Sigrid Bjornsdottir and her fiance Thorstein Olafsson had had their ship blow off course from Iceland and they'd been given shelter in Hvalsey where they decided to get married in that very church in September,1408. Then they set sail for Iceland to start a new life but witnesses to their wedding their would record that they'd been married in that Greenlandic church- the very last historic glimpse of the Norse Greenlander colony. Within a few decades, they appears to have been abandoned. Yet over a century later in 1540, an Icelandic sea captain would venture back to the Norse colonies only to discover them empty but for a single corpse of a redhaired Norseman wearing animal skins but carrying the remains of an iron knife. What that man's name was and whether he'd spent his entire life among the last survivors if not having been the very last survivor is a complete mystery!
Anyway, I'm glad you and your family got the chance to touch a building that bore witness to one last hopeful event before its congregants would meet still unknown fates ! Thanks for this!

Here after randomly looking at the map on my phone and seeing a land mass that had no name until I zoomed in it read Greenland…. The language I’ve never heard in my life and it sounds very difficult to learn. I enjoy watching others cultures while expanding my mind, how delightful.
It is very difficult indeed. It is a polysynthetic language, which means entire sentences can be represented in a single word. Roots, endings, and morphemes are added on top of each other via agglutination, which entails a long list of sounds rules and agglutinative sound changes.

So guess ill be the first one to say it ... albeit a nice serene place with great scenery theres really not much to do in Greenland which personally i actuality like going to wide open densely populated places but im.quite sure most people (party animals for instance) wouldnt appreciate a beautiful calm quiet place like this where you can actually clear your mind!

Here on the West coast of Scotland, and on the islands we have colourful houses, but not nearly as many as Greenland. About the inuit in Alaska they are not inuit like the eastern Eskimos but are called yupik.
Inuit and Eskimo is the not the same thing and if you talk about all the natives of the Arctic Eskimo is better tho I wouldn't use it too prefer to a specific group.
Fun fact : The Viking who discovered Greenland was named Erik the red. Him and other Vikings got kicked out of Iceland and Erik the red ended up sailing until he found Greenland. He named it Greenland to attract settlers to the Island. You can still find Erik the Red's gravestone in Greenland.
Erik's son, if i recall right, was named Leif Erikson....meaning Erik's- son !

Tons of water in land like that. When everything thaws, the mosquitos hatch. Same reason Alaskans joke that their state bird is the mosquito.

I am Muslim and Allah have told us about that in Quran chapter 25 verse 53: And He is the One Who merges the two bodies of water: one fresh and palatable and the other salty and bitter, placing between them a barrier they cannot cross.

A Dane here. The Kingdom of Denmark today consists of Denmark, Faroe Islands and Greenland. Until 1945 Iceland, you just came from, also were a part of the Kingdom. Greenland and Faroe Islands are autonomous in the way that they have own parliaments but also permanent seats in the Danish parliament. Danes do not have reps. in the Faroe Islands and Greenland´s parliaments. Faroe islands and Greenland do not have a military but are both through their part of the Kingdom part of NATO. Most foreign affairs and defence are ultimately under parliamentary control from Denmark. Faroe Island and Greenland do not "belong" to Denmark. We are all part of same Kingdom. Faroe Islands and Greenland can decide to leave the Kingdom should they so decide.
You mentioned that Inuits have been very good to keep their traditions. Will, unfortunately, are not enough. Climate change are changing climate in Greenland faster than any populated area on the globe. Just 50 years ago nearly all household in Greenland had their own dog couple and sledge so they could go hunting. Then there were thick ice around the coastline 9 months a year allowing for the hunt of seals and icefishing. Now, in just 50 years, the ice barely are thick enough to sustain hunting for 3 months a year completely destroying the family hunter structure all around Greenland. We are family inside the Kingdom and there are a reason why Denmark have become known for acting on climate change and being in the forefront of transitioning away from fossil fuels. Danes decades ago began drilling icecores and this scientific field have turned out to be a gift to humanity. Let me reuse an explanation I wrote not long ago to a climate change denier as part of an serious attempt to explain reality.
Glaciologist drilling icecores in Greenland have, by analysing air bubbles captured in the ice, established that we the last 700.000 years have had a pretty stable carbon PPM at 220. Besides Carbon also things like acidity, pollen counts, Vulcanic ash count and identification etc. can be measured.
Since the ice sheet have been build up over time, layer by layer, year by year, we go back in time the deeper we go. So we have a YEAR BY YEAR documentation of the global climate 700.000 back or way more than 10 times the period, since man left Africa. There has been a few peaks at 280 PPM that all have been connected to high global Vulcanic activity. These times the ash have first cooled the earth shortly then the effects of a heightened CO2 content have reversed that (as the cooling effect of the ash have settled as well) and the earth have warmed for a longer period and that has been on the basis of just 30 PPM more CO2 content in the atmosphere. Since around the beginning of the industrial revolution PPM has exploded. We are now (2022) at 417 PPM, close to double the amount we have seen last 700.000 year. Just to set the amount of 700.000 years in context, Homo Sapiens left the African continent around 60.000 years ago. We are in serious trouble!
The Kingdom of Denmark have approved access to nations that have wanted to do own glaciology studies in Greenland and many nations have. Denmark, USA and Canada for example all have a full set of cores and can thus give you key data of our climate, year by year, 700K years back.
We have a global problem and we, as mankind, created that problem, and if we don´t solve it very fast, we eventually will pollute ourselves out of a home. Lets look at some science factual reality.

These numbers actually to low since aviation are excluded. Americans flying more per Capita than others, making reality even grimmer.
IF a policy are UNsustainable for us all and can be replaced by one that ARE SUSTAINABLE and we don´t act on it and CHANGE, well, then Darwinism will take us out! The truth are that USA, Australia and many others are way behind the curve, sticking to old technology when the world are changing are not doing local businesses, population, economy, any favours.
The world have agreed on how emissions should be defined, and what are covered. Thus CO2 emission-calculations around the world, for now around 20 years have been streamlined. Basically , now when USA again have signed, the Paris accord the entire worlds countries are covered. Not one country followed US out of the agreement, If all just focus on what they need to DO we can get this going fast.
Will USA though act? Trump took USA out of the Paris accord and hired an oil CEO as head of the EPA. Biden re-signed USA in but just a few months ago called the largest oil search and "rights to use" auction in US history ensuring USA do not have a chance to honour its signature or promises.
Just a few weeks ago Greenland had temperatures around 20 Celsius. Normal would be around minus 5! 50 years ago Greenland waters were frozen over 9 months a year, now it are barely 3 and ice are more in-stable thus dangerous to hunt on and preventing animal life, like polar bears, to hunt for their primary diet, seals. The same goes for the Greenlandic people!
It makes NO sense WASTING an ever increasing amount of taxpayermoney on fixing the endless and increasing symptoms; climate refugees, flooding, draught, cropfailures, a dead ocean, landslides, collapsing waterways through disappearing gletchers, hurricanes etc. etc.
I wanna INVEST in CURING the patient, zero emission sustainable living and production.
It is cheaper to ACT than let the ball roll. The North Sea summit agreement, the worlds largest - by far - offshore windmill park/sustainable electricity project that was signed 2 months ago will deliver sustainable energy to 230 million high energy using Europeans transitioning them away from fossil fuels. On top same project have worlds largest - by far - hydrogen project. Despite this are the worlds largest, by far, transitioning project transitioning 230 million people in just 12 years it have not had any mention in USA, Australia, Canada. That really are pretty weird because these nations normally are very media focused on the largest, highest etc etc in the world projects. If this were poker I would bet you an Exxon mobile quarterly earnings report that i have a pretty good idea why!
CO2 taxes are increasingly being introduced for imported goods around the world. This will fast get any nation not acting to bring their CO2 content down in serious trouble exporting anything.
There are NOTHING preventing coastal nations like USA/Canada/Australia/Italy/Portugal, just to name a few,from making a copy/paste of the North Sea summit agreement and get their energy from off shore windmills and hydrogen production. Off shore windmills have a downtime of 3% due to no wind at all. Compensating for this with green hydrogen made from the windmills electricity are a obvious right solution.
