- Turkmenistan is a place that has always fascinated me. After squaring away my visa, I boarded the flight to this interesting country. It is a trip unlike any that I have ever taken

But if you don't see people, it's creepy
don't you see people in the market and in the village?
Its doesnt look creepy to me! It look like paradise! Im sick of people! No st pid on their phone screaming beside you on the bus, no one with their horrible 3liter of parfum before you at the register, just silence and peace, enough room for yourself, no .sshole bump into you without apology, no rude dumb dumbs. No uneducated brats with their shoes on the train seat.

They were very nice and they showed me pictures of their house.
Then they are on the government's payroll and they're very lucky.

When I went there 4 months ago, it was not empty LOL.
Many cars everywhere. I'm not sure if it was only because it was Winter Season.

@@ctmdrivetest789 Probably in their homes Lol. I don't think these Turkmens prioritise driving around as much as Americans. Villages usually have small shops for food and snacks. So do Bazaars. Those will be crowded. I also went 4 months ago and there were many cars. So odd how they aren't really seen in the video.
@@um_7t The drivers are all men because women have a very hard time obtaining driver licenses. Women are not even allowed to be in a car with someone that is not a relative and never after 8pm even with a relative.
There are not so many people there in the capital even in normal times. But in the provinces you can meet kind, helpful and hospitable people at every step. It is a fact!!! Unfortunately this is not available to bloggers((@@ctmdrivetest789

Hi Jordan. As weird and strange as this country was, it was quite pretty as well. The monuments were really cool. The tour guide Tim spoke perfect English. It was strange not to see people anywhere. They are all in the slums and banned from the cities lol. 70% of the population is unemployed and barred from the city. Another big percentage lives in the countryside below the poverty line.

I have watched a few vids on Turkmenistan, and I liked yours the best. You made what could have been a boring guided tour into something quite interesting.
I was there last September. One of the most memorable places I’ve ever visited. Darvaza at sunrise was definitely a highlight!
Awesome tour video about my country 😇Normally it's not empty that much, usually people going out for Picknick out there near those beautiful as called 3 leg building or 8 leg building, and in the Berkarar where you had lunch, it's crowded in the evening. The first traditional hat which is puffy usually groom is wearing once during their wedding (we are celebrating wedding almost for 4 days not including engagement ceremony) the other small hat with embroidery is mostly common and part of uniform at school and at the university but for girls the design and colour is a bit different than boys'. And that shopping place we call as a Russian bazar and idk why but most tourists visiting and shopping there😁 About Kowata, it's a mysterious place for me, and a bit creepy 😅 the water was clean and warm before, idk why there were white things 🤔 About food, you should have tried "Kelle bash ayak" it's a head and legs of sheep, sounds crazy but the taste is amazing, especially tongue and eye balls without the black, "Dograma" from meaning chopping/dicing (bread), you can eat that as a dry way or with soup😋, "Tamdyr somsa" it's like a meat pie but baked in a special oven called Tamdyr... Etc.

You have to get permission from the govt to have a wedding. Were you forced to pick cotton like every citizen was and is? How did you go shopping in a bizarre when all the shops in the city are facades? Whatever... just another ridiculous post about this horrible country with all the pretty marble at the expense of the humanitarian crisis right outside of it.
It seems weird to see no people at all in such a big city. I guess the government there doesn’t want people to meet foreigners. Are the citizens allowed to travel outside their country? While it looks like a beautiful city it has a North Korean vibe.
Everyone is outside during the evening usually in malls and restaurants, and yes citizens can travel abroad with a visa

You really gave us a journey regardless if it’s what they wanted you to see. They should be proud of the work you do in giving this very unknown country a positive view. Totaly agree, They have their reasons for how they are and it works for them, its not for us to change but try to understand, if not just live with it. Everything i have seen about Turkmenistan has been positive, just mostly conspiricy nuts doing their thing.

Check what „Potemkin village” is. You will then realize what Turkmenistan is and how such a projects are deeply embedded in post-Russian/Soviet area.

I love how no matter where you go your personality and probably your smile will somehow win people over and they give you free food! I’ve seen a few different videos where people tell you not to pay for the food they are selling on the street, even in some of the poorest countries you manage to pull this off. Thanks for sharing

That's all I kept wondering too! I barely saw any women anywhere. Looks beautiful, opulent, but deserted :/ Doesn't feel welcoming. Maybe we're wrong, I don't know much about the region. He seemed very gracious and complimentary towards everyone but reception of a woman could be completely different. It closes our experience of the world off in a way male adventurers may not feel. I wonder if other travelers feel that sometimes. Happy travels, cool to see this video, be safe ✌

Cool video man! I checked for some flights to Turkmeni from Istanbul and wow they are so expensive all the time. Like extreme. Why is this?
Its to keep the poor out of the country. These countries want rich people to come in with their cash. A lot of these countries have sanctions placed upon them and this is how they make a portion of their money to help the economy.

I loved this video!!! I’ve been super interested in Turkmenistan lately because it’s such a unique and strange country. I realize it’s an incredibly controlling government and generally I think it’s very hard for the average person living there. But it’s so rare and fascinating to get these kinds of glimpses into countries like this. Even if it was somewhat contrived by the government and guides 🤷🏻♀️ who knows. Very cool to see though. I went on rhe Ferris wheel when I went to Ashkabat in November and Iwas one of only three ,the other 2 being my travel companions, surreal but amazing at the same time
It would have been great if you would've shared more info about the monuments' date of construction and everything...I lived there when I was a little girl back in the 90s and I have beautiful memories about Ashgabat and its people ❤
