The more we find out about Mary-Magdalena, the more fascinating she becomes.
Imagine having lived right by Jesus's side for most of his life, and the cannonical Bible essentially erases your existence. I'd be pissed. I hope we find out as much as we can about her and restore her rightful place in Church history.

I agree her story is very intriguing and feel she serves as a feminine example women should strive for.
In 1969, the Pope renounced her prostitute misnomer but unfortunately it's not common knowledge and many churches still weave her mistaken identity in their sermons, which IMHO makes them sadly negligent. I feel she has transcended the human emotion of outrage, although we can certainly feel that on her behalf and should spread awareness when possible. I am pleased that Pope Francis made a public declaration about her importance as a apostle of Christ and elevated her memorial day to a feast day. I'm hopeful that one day all will know her true nature.

HISTORICALLY ,Jesus had no problem with women - - his ' right hand ' was a woman , the apostle of apostles , Mary Magdalene - - Peter lacked the smarts to understand the messages in the parables - - several times Mary was asked to explain .Historically women were second class citizens in the culture of Jasus' time .The church does not like to talk about HISTORIC TRUTH - - only talk about faith & beliefs which , in fact were created by the zealous bishops to push THEIR agenda .WHen Constantine accepted Christianity , called the bishop to have a synode at which time the Nicene creed was created by a small percentage of all the bishops at that time who had a strong desire to push their agenda- -among them patriarchy & misogyny which around 425 was reinforced by Augustine of Hippo , the so called father of the church and the demonizer of women- -the cause of women's discrimination to priesthood . The old boys do not like to talk about the historic TRUTHS & too WIMPY to allow women priests .

All great stuff, informative, eye opening for sure but I was lost and searching. As fate would have it I've found what I was looking for.I was introduced to Christianity as early as 1969 when I was born by my Grandma. As time went on I wandered away from it because I thought that it was archaec and not relevant to this "modern age" but as time went on I began to see how fake this world is. I began to notice another presence around me that would make good things happen and would answer my thoughts, always but never on my time.I almost died 16 times in my life. When I listen to His prompts I always am successful in building my "Knowledge Repetoir".Any other book toward "truth" never stacks up to what the Bible instructs.I know because I'm a former Pagan-Gnostic- New Ager! If you accept The Holy Spirit into your life everything changes.Your myopic paradigm shifts a few noticable degrees and continues relative to your ability to grasp things on this crazy, tumultuous and uncertain road of life.I'm now a solid-as- rock Believer because of what all I've seen and experienced. Not bragging, just sayin'😒

One of my FAVORITE courses ever was "The Gnostic Gospels," with one of my favorite professors, David Brakke. It was a small class, with perhaps a dozen of us, most of whom knew each other from other classes in the Religious Studies department. We had some of the COOLEST discussions and debates about the material. 25 years later, and I can still remember the course number (R425/565, combined graduate/undergrad).
Bentley Layton had recently published his seminal work, covering everything from Valentinus, Ireneus, Gospel of Thomas, etc. I don't remember whether Mary was in the book, but we DID cover it.
As an atheist who still finds religion to be both a source and chronicle of the evolution of the mind of mankind, discovering the Thomas and Mary gospels was a transformative moment, opening my mind to studying Christianity, both from an historical perspective, as well as the theological contemplation of its proferred wisdom. I truly wonder how the Church, and civilization itself, would be different if Thomas and Mary had been included among the canonical texts. It almost makes me sad.
Anyway, thank you so much for this great video

Briefly I had been with her for the last 3 days holding her hand, when she stopped breathing I reached down to give her a hug and was met with this beautiful force rising from her body, it went through me and out my back heading upwards. I looked down and immediately realized that this was the vessel that carried my Mother's soul, her suffering was over.
Your message here resonated with me for that reason.
My lecturer later told me that was my Mother's greatest gift to me, the confirmation that I always knew, what happens at death.
Mary is the only disciple that has ever captivated my attention, when I pray it is always to her.

    • @Georgia-Vic
      @Georgia-Vic Před 10 měsíci

@@jassimarsingh6505 I see what you are alluding to but for something to be "hidden" it cannotes secrecy and intentionally hiding something from someone's view in order to deceive them or to outright trick them. A better word, definition or description would be something like: not very well known, obscure, uncommon knowledge, unordinary, vague or anything else but "hidden!" These aren't semantics but a more clear way of relaying something to someone else without being ambiguous. Other people don't always know our biased and peculiar ways of talking. Jesus hides nothing from us. If by some chance we fail to see the message, it's only because we are unable to understand it. If we don't get the gist of a teaching it's only because we either have not had enough life experience under our belts OR we just are outright rebellious and childishly refuse to receive it, in which it's no ones fault but ours, not the person speaking, writing or conveying the message to us! If we say "well I didn't know about it, therefore I'm exempt from the consequences!" we then are irresponsible and a victim and that is unacceptable to God. We hold ourselves back from progress! God gives us free will and discernment, if we don't use them then that's our problem. God forces nothing on us and He hides nothing from us because we are His children. When the KJV Bible speaks of secrecy and things being hidden, that's the certain interpretation of the translator. Old English is a dead language. We don't call rabbits "Coneys".We don't call seals "Badgers". We don't say:" Thee" or "thou" and we don't speak like the people did in Great Britain 300 some odd years ago. King James hired William Shakespeare to copy the Bible. William then subcontracted 70 other men to do the research to make his job easier. Those men worked with candles and oil lamps in low light and the sources and resources were questionable at best. They were in a hurry to get their pay and the longer they took to translate the longer they went without money. We update our dictionary every 5 years!😏😳also when things are penned on paper, the translators' (and the Prophets) intentions were not like what we today think they are. We think that things are only one way; the way that we think that they should be without exception and that's closed minded, selfish and myopic because we take things out of context just to suit our own egos or to win an argument! There are different ways of looking at something. Sometimes if you'll turn it around you will see a different aspect of it and lastly things in Ancient Hebrew, Aramaic and ancient Greek cannot be translated into our modern English which is an amalgamation of various other borrowed languages! 🫤 And some words cannot be translated because they don't have those words and vice versa. Some cultures don't have words for "good bye" or "future" or "hidden"...so what does a translator do? They make up words, suppose, conject or find a suitable word to replace or fill in. Does that mean that it's wrong? By no means, it's just the only way that we can make something broken whole!

Similar ideas occur in the pistis sophia, and 1 obscure church father 'the lord always used to sit and listen to her wisdom' (from memory). together with the gospels, if you add this up it points to a significant tradition that's only now being recovered. i think her idea of the gospel may be found in the text, The Odes of Solomon

When you truly go silent within in total trust, you are in connection with him/God and your true nature. This can still be a process of discovery, but that is the essence of it. While I don't feel particularly drawn to belief of any sort (even calling myself agnostic is being charitable. I simply believe that if there is some omnipotent/omnipresent being, then it must be impossible to scientifically prove it disprove) I find it absolutely fascinating to see all the ways in which Christian teachings were interpreted and communicated in the early years before the development of the church as a monolithic entity.

Hi, I share the same background as you and appreciate your honest comment here. I'd like to share this: About 10 years after finishing college, I started reading a lot of non-religious philosophy on my own for like 6-7 years (Greek, German, British, etc). It was kind of incredible but these texts actually drew me back towards Christian philosophy and teaching, like Thomas Aquinas. In the past year I started going to church again and feel pretty good about it. I bring my young children as well. I guess one major takeaway after the life experiences I've had is that the church is a more wholesome and stable institution for my children than the tumultuous secular ones we have available. It took me years to arrive here and lots of consideration --and I don't "know" I'm right. Part leap of faith I suppose. Keep searching and reading!

Buddhism and Islam is something which almost never explored by contemporary Muslim scholars, parts of it can be blamed from Muslim Perennialists' overt focus to Rene Guenon's frameworks and similar late orientalist (or more of contra-orientalist) eras of Scholars, which Buddhism as the most latent Sramana Faith is discarded and even never historically dissected of both "Early", "Mahayana", "Vajrayana" and new age eras of Buddhism's history asides from non-Muslim Western Scholars whose brave enough to jump into said Depth of Emptiness in Buddhism
All of these despite Al Biruni's records of Buddhism can be very prevalent, with some Muslims at that time even believes about The Buddha and similar Mahayana Buddhist figures in the newly conquered Muslim era of Khorasan (basically Transoxiana to Western China) to be Prophets that taught Religious systems to "banish Satan', which directly references Buddha triumphs over Mara(s) figure in the Buddhist history of Gautama, this on top of the other possible theories of Prophet Dhul Kifl in The Qur'an might also refer to Arabised suffix term reference of Gautama Buddha birthplace origin in Kapilavastu alongside the Fig Tree in Surah At-Tin being a possible reference of Gautama achieving Nirvana under The Bodhi Tree
Another more personal findings given to how Prophet Ezekiel in The Tanakh also describes visions of Wheels at the Kavod (Glory) of God which happens to be incidental with Buddhism's concept of Turning Wheel of Dharma which represents Noble Eightfold Path, the number 8 also plays pivotal role in Orthodox Christianity, Sethian Gnostic and reference of Qur'an Rub El Hizb and Eight Doors to Paradise in Islam

I wonder if this is the earliest example of the Christian theory that the individual “soul” goes to heaven when a human being dies - as opposed to St Paul’s idea that the dead will all rise, transformed like Jesus, only when He returns in glory.
In my Catholic schooling, I was taught that BOTH were in store for us: When we die, our souls go to God for immediate judgment and an eternity in heaven or hell - or an unknown period of suffering and soul-cleansing in purgatory. Then when Christ returns, all the dead rise and there’s a “final judgment.”
That used to confuse me: Why TWO judgements? Wouldn’t the souls in purgatory all be released into heaven? And weren’t the souls in heaven and hell already judged for all eternity?
You’ve helped me understand that the competing theories go back to the beginnings of the church, which later went on, I surmise, to combine the two.
Even today, more recent Christian groups like Mormons and Jehovah’s Witnesses apparently propose more complex theories involving multiple heavens and the total extermination of the souls of the wicked.
“Quot homines, tot sententiae” the Romans said - There are as many opinions as there are human beings!

Mormons are not Christians and neither are Jahova witnesses. Mormons for example believe in many God's. They believe that God use to be a man who died and became our God. They believe Jesus and Satan are brothers and the litteral children of God and one of his many wives in heaven. They believe God is sexual. They believe when you die if you follow all the mormon ways you become a god of your own planet too. Those cultists believe nothing that actual Christians do. Their God Jesus and Holy spirt are not the same as our GOD (God Jesus and the holy spirt as 1.) None of their creation story is the same as ours. The fight between heaven and the followers of Satan is different. They do not believe Satan is a fallen angel. Mormon and Christian theology are two separate things two completely different stories.

I suggest you these topics which might interest you & are rather less discussed upon when it comes to speaking about Hinduism - Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Yoga, Samkhya & Purva-Mimamsa. Nyaya scholar Udayanacharya & Purva-Mimamsa scholar Kumarila Bhatta had played crucial roles in refuting Madhayamaka doctrine through debates & compositions. Samkhya is basically a Hindu version of sorts of the Taoist theory of Ying-Yang & is important to understand Shaktism in general. Like Tantra, Yoga has been heavily misinterpreted by the Western society but the Yoga espoused in Patanjali's Yoga-sutras are much more profound than mere physical exercises.
