    No. You do not have to remove the top to replace the straps. I did that last week. It's a very simple install. It took about 15 minutes. The straps (spyder straps) are around $40 from a guy who has a video on CZcams. The replacement straps are 2 inches wide. OEM are an inch and a half. The top goes down smoother than when it was new. Money well spent.

      Where can I purchase the convertible top straps???

  • @dvrapant

    There are so many people getting scammed into buying new motors when this is the problem. Thanks a lot for posting this. My bands are worn and hanging like yours with the same two little holes on both sides. I’m lucky and don’t have rips in the back yet. I can repair the two little holes with a patch kit easily and I’ll probably find some good elastic and make a Velcro to fasten it. I’m not paying a shit ton just to have some Nissan strap put on just to watch it fail again in a few years. It always blows my mind that stuff like this. Cheap ass shit causing huge problems in a 40+ thousand dollar car.

    I had this problem also. My solution was to cut the two elastic bands that are between the two top bars. Went and got some elastic and wrapped it around the two bars and hand sewed it. Top works like a charm now. The elastic bands are important because the pull the bars when needed. You can see that his are sagging in the above video.

    Yes it's the straps my 2006 350z roadster did the same thing except not ripped but mine wouldn't go down except the last 4 inches. I had a local top guy replace my straps with some heavy duty ones and mine works fine now. I'm in Alabama.

    You shouldn't have to remove the top to replace the straps. I have heard of people going to Michael's and getting some Velcro straps and just putting those over the straps that are already there

    If you have to pay so much to repair it just buy the Smoothline hardtop. It's custom designed to replace the soft top and no maintenance worries

    The factory top is good for about 10 years. Don't just replace the straps. Replacement tops are about 600-700 bucks online and come with the straps or are extra. If you replace the top, you need to replace both straps AND the 2 spring cables.

    • @reeldriver
      @reeldriver Před rokem

    • @bnelson4575
      @bnelson4575 Před rokem

      @@reeldriver they run underneath the fabric on either side of the top. You can't see them until you begin removing the top.

      Loopdy Loop I have this exact problem. There is no problem with the top coming back up. What happens is the top does not fold correctly as it is going down and it won’t lay flat enough for the top compartment to close properly. That’s when those 2 little holes get put in your top on both sides. Putting it back up is no problem as that strap does nothing. It’s a terrible design flaw.
