    This album still holds up, always cool to see someone hear it for the first time. Actually a few great articles came out years later about the making of this album.
    Dre was talking about MC Ren in What's the Difference,
    Royce da 5'9 wrote the Message, and also wrote to what became Xxxplosive called "The way i be Pimpin"
    Hittman was supposed to be the next aftermath artist after this but never came out, supposedly because he didn't have any commercial appeal and also 50 came along and all the aftermath resources went to that. You can hear what was going to be Hittmans first single at the end of the "Forgot about Dre" video, it's called "last dayz"
    Hittman did end up putting a lot of that music out years later on a project called "Hittmanic Verses" it's dope
    Ho's a Housewife was actually on 3 albums, this, Kurupt's 2nd album Streetz iz a Mutha (definitely deserves a review) and Kurupts disappointing first album Kuruption
    Knoc'turnal wrote a lot of Dre's verses on this album, along w/ Em and Jay and Royce, check out Knoc's landing and Str8 Westcoast and Bad Intentions
    Definitely need to also review Restless by Xzibit

      @abdelmessiht Před 8 měsíci +1

      @@ChiefSiebs so many ways, the east coast disc had terrible features aside from Buckshot and Nore, and this is where you started to see Kurupt get real lazy with his raps. After Dogg Food and NY, NY he was considered one of the sharpest lyricists in the game. This album is a big drop off from where he was at with Dogg Food. The west coast cd is better but still left a lot to be desired. Thank God for Streetz is a Mutha after made everyone forget about kuruption

    My audio engineering instructor, Mr Peter Novak, mixed the songs F*ck You and Xplosive for this album. He told me Dre had the most amazing work ethic and vision about exactly what impact he wanted this album to have. He said working on this was like being on a movie set. He taught me a lot that Dre taught him and i still keep this album in mind when mixing and my ish sounds too big for some rappers. 😂

    I love the fact that Eminem wrote the first track, The Watcher, on Dr Dre's masterpiece. He was such a large part of his life at the time and he entrusted that track to Eminem to kick things off. You can tell it's written by Em, in terms of style and cadence, yet Dre spits it well as he always does when others write for him (very often). Always loved that intro to the album. Takes me back to when I picked the album up on release! Classic.

    I remember watching Saturday Night Live when this album came out and Dre was the musical guest and they did Forgot About Dre and EVERYONE was marking out over that hook, trying to spit it flawless the next week at school. This album is legendary.

    Please put the "all we got iz us" album by onyx on your list. Everyone please like this comment if you agree about how much if a masterpiece that album is... 2ndly, if you wanna hear godly bars that shaped big pun and em, listen to 1 of these 2 Kool G Rap albums... "Roots of Evil" or "Live and Let die." You will NOT be disappointed and you will see why he is better than Em, Jay and Pun. The lyrics, wordplay and pockets of flows are unmatchable. You will start swearing by him as I do as number 1 on the top 5 list.

    Timeless album from front to back and awesome reaction. Also fun fact on the song light speed hit man's retreat like Megatron part was sampled on a heltah skeltah song called never ending but it was at the very end of the track. Hope you can review it sometime

    Aa far as Bag Lady, they pretry much came out around the same time. I always assumed Dre sold to her for her use. There was never any suggestion that anything shady was going on as far as I knew.

    The cleanest production to this day! The Chronic back in 92 was the classic then the return 2001 just took it to the next level. The master of masterpieces of an album, if pac had lived he would of loved flowing over a DRE beat

    Chronic 2001!! Little trivia. The Original title of the album was supposed to be Chronic 2000: No Seeds but Suge Knight who owned royalties on Dre's music since he left Death Row came out with a compilation album called Chronic 2000: Still Smokin' before Dre could drop his. So Dre had to put a weed leaf symbol 2001 as the title. Thats why on Lightspeed you hear it say "you are now listening to the sounds of Chronic 2000" and then dude comes on going "One!!" because it wasnt originally 2001 it was Chronic 2000. Even Eminem says in Forgot About Dre "from here on out its The Chronic 2" so its supposed to have Chronic in the title. Because of that I always consider the title Chronic 2001 when talking about it.

    Shoutout to Houston legend Devin the Dude who does the hook and a part on "Fuck You". He's one of the GOATs in my book, and has been knocking out classics with his super unique and smooth style since the early 90s.
    Still kicking too. Can't recommend him enough, especially if you (but even if you don't) smoke weed.
