- The Honda Grom and Kawasaki Z125 Pro are two of the most trending minibikes on the market currently. While they both have a lot of similarities to one another, they also have some differences that make them unique in their own way. So we decided to put them to the test at a local go kart track to figure out what makes these bikes so popular and fun!

Thou shalt not use a loud, distracting music track on a ten minute loop. Editing sin!
Let the church say AMEN
Seriously though why did they use the music they could of stopped or changed it
Preach!
Amen!
Amen
First glance the Grom looked better. The more I look at the Z125 the more I see all these beautiful lines and it’s starting to look better than the Grom.
Zed Runnner, like you I am into the looks. I ride down the street and look for people looking at me and the cool factor is most important. When I do not look cool I just feel awful, it is after all what people think of me because of my ride. I am 16 and that is the most important thing ever. Now, if I could get passing grades and move on to the 6th grade that would be really cool.
I like the older groms.. can't stand the new headlight
@@ohwell2790 16 in the 6th grade?!?!?! O'doyle rules! Lmfao I graduated high school soon after I turned 16 and that was 20 years ago.
@@smklvr69 He was being sarcastic boomer.
@@altongrey6472 you know this dude made a facebook post about “this generation” after reading that too
Music is annoying I want to hear the bikes
Comhghall Geraghty not much to hear.
@@mrpistonrecaro6483 Would still be better than mind numbing music.
Rather see them on the Streets and roads not a dumb race track.
NOBODY clicking on vehicle videos wants to hear someone’s choice of crappy music!
We want to hear revving, backfiring, and crashes (when/if applicable)!
Not to mention they made us watch them riding around the track, and not talking about the bikes
I couldn't hear anything because your socks were so loud
How about some technical stuff... like mpg, top speed, acceleration times, braking times... REAL DATA ! ???
Top speed is like 55-60, mpg is 120mpg. Braking is great 90front 10rear. Acceleration is faster then a moped.
ikr they had me crazy !
@@NatsumeKonno Thanks for the heads up before I wasted my time!
@@Odinist its fun little motorcycle. But most people who buy this only buy it for group rides.
If you think about it its just an upgraded moped that shapes like a naked bike. Your better off buying a 150cc scooter.
@@NatsumeKonno mpg is more like 60 not 130🤣
That Grom looks awesome. Thanks for the info.
They Both look like a lot of fun! My Honda experience includes: CB160, CL350, CB450, GL1100, and VT1300C. While Kawasaki has been: H1-500, VN900Classic, VN1600Nomad, and a VN900Custom.
Both companies make excellent dependable bikes! My son has a Grom thats a blast to ride. I'm sure the Z-125 is fun as well
Thanks guys. Thinking of getting one of them for my daughter. Much help.
That looked super fun! Really enjoyed the video thoroughly! Keep up the good work!
Thank you! Will do!
I love that Toce exhaust! Mine came today for my Grom! Thanks TST guys!
Hey thanks for the video. Just curious for the taller rider if the kaw really made that big of a difference with the seat height? Thanks in advance.
The first 8 seconds of this video i can feel how fun these bikes are without even riding them, the middle finger killed me 😂 exactly what I'd be doing with my friends lol
Do you guys know if there are any off road suspensions for the z125, because I was looking into getting one, but I wanted o modify it to a dirt bike for Arizona; recommendation to go there for any gear heads because they don't require you to have a drivers license or a registered vehicle in specific areas of public land.
So im looking forward to purchase a bike I have seen one in person driven about and it interested me in having one just because im a local person living and working in a local area, so I don't have much room for speed at all and seems matching for the liking.
Does the z125 have great aftermarket support to or no
A grown person on these looks absolutly stupid, and still i want one! 😁
You mean normal to taller riders, ya it looks ridiculous because it's meant for shorter rider, they looks normal.
I though looking silly was the whole point
should have said: A grown person on these looks absolutely stupid, and this is why i want one.
steffenramso Go for it man, I’m 6’2 and I look ok on it. Hahaha my wife hates my grom 😂
I’m 5 foot nine and sit on one yesterday and the sales person told me I look great. I’ll let him know he was a nice guy, but full of shit. I still bought it.
How tall are you on the grom and weight? I would have included more information on MPG, Instrumentation, fuel capacity etc.
Which bike is better im looking to buy one in 2 weeks.
Thanks for the vid.

I currently own a Hayabusa and a classic GSXR 1100 and have owned many other big modified bikes. Most of the time I would rather ride my Z125. It's the most fun bike I've ever had. I don't imagine there's much difference between the Z and the Grom. Biggest modification upgrade I did would be wider tires. They made the Z feel like a big bike. Either way you can't go wrong!
Front is 120/70/12 and rear is 140/60/12 Pirelli Synergy. They are the only tire where you can go wider on the back but keep the same height. Stock wheels, no problem. MPG is around the same at 1OOmpg. Safety is not an issue running this tire. The width is not that much different, but you do notice more stability and less flickability. It makes the bike way more stable at speed, which to me is safer. The wheel width is irrelevant.
I have a r6 and vtx1800 and thinking about picking one of these z125s up tomarrow, worth it?
Wtf is with those socks!
It's about the 9-0-9 yo!
Rick Pires there riding socks to where under their boots
They’re part time soccer coach
Shush. It's about clout
at 5'1", these bikes are perfect for me although they are limited on the roads they can take. with that said, I learned on an old 'Zuki T125 but these seem soo much better. 45mph limits and under, there is nothing better. you can ride them at 10/10 and not feel guilty. Appreciated the video. Honda Grom for me all day long, because I like it better and there is a Honda dealer 1000' from the house. Cheers.
Very nice information on these bikes thanks!
Our pleasure!
I remember seeing it in person when purchasing some parts for my r3 i personally like the grom better because of the color and the way the exhaust sits under the seat instead of the side
Bryantrincon413 FAM the license plate would go where though?
TheAlex0903 good question probably near the tire hugger
That's an aftermarket exhaust. Not the normal placement.
@@Jeff_the_ApocalypticGameCat mk1 grom had their stock exhaust near the seat tho :p
Great lil commuters. I just might pick one up. But which one?
🤔 I'm with the Grom. And TST your product lineup is awesome.
Thank you.
the toce on the grom is absolutely adorable haha
This look fun gear head we’re u find them at and how can I get one
How much is the bike tire size
hey where did you get the windscreen for the Z?
It was purchased off of another Z riders through Facebook. We're not entirely sure of the brand but it's similar to the one found at the link below.
www.ebay.com/itm/For-Kawasaki-Z125-2015-2016-Pare-Brise-PVC-Windshield-Windscreen-Cover-/272494189432
I'm doing this exact comparison for a first bike and after some practice become something I would daily ride. I have an extremely short commute at 5.4km one way. I have a couple of slightly longer routes I could take that have some nice bendy bits and hills so I would like to have a nice sporty ride to work on something small and easy to learn on. I found your video quite informative thank you. I am curious if you tried some very mild off roading on either of the bikes. Gravel maybe some mud and a bit of grass with a few hills nothing major.
they definitely can't offroad, at least while stock.
Fallin love with gromm
Within the last two weeks I have too
what music is that in the bgm?
I'm looking for a beginner bike for non-riding friends & family. Not sure these are what I'd want or not. PitsterPro has a 190cc version which should be a lot peppier. I'll check & see if there are any CZcamss comparing them to the Grom.
Great video , you are a Honda guy just like we are
Bryan looks like he is ready for some soccer and golf.
Im 5’4 which is better for me??
Where can i get that Exhaust on the grom.
Hmmmmm....perhaps from the company that made this video...
They look great fun!
They sure are.
The exhaust pipe is customized or find at the shop?
Both bikes had off the shelf exhaust systems.
Great video guys! Let's do a Grom Day at Bushnell?
I think we can work something out. Let's continue this conversation through email buddy!
im looking at getting one of these for the city.. leaning slightly toward the grom tho
They are both capable little machines.
I like how you said video ... are you from the north east?
I'd love to do a 250cc 4 stroke conversion for it. Do they sell conversion kits
Graham is a 125 it is needed for that specific cubic inches size motor you cannot then go and put a 250 mL which equals a much higher or excuse me but more in area the point is is that a 125 four stroke bike cannot fit a 250 motor in it they’re both four strokes one motor is bigger than the other that’s like taking a 125cc two-stroke you put in a 250 two-stroke motor in it or taking it 250 F and putting a 500 motor or even 450 It’s apples and oranges if it was a two-stroke I would understand
Tom Spaulding for the grom they make conversion kits to put in a cbr 250 motor. It is a 250 4 stroke 6 speed.
do all grom riders wear their socks like that?
Yes
Greg Anderson lolololololololololol
Well it's mini bike or pants, you gotta choose

Poxa eu queria uma moto dessa, um dia eu vou trabalhar e vou comprar uma xj6, porém queria agora uma dessas
Porq nao tem essas motos no brasil?
I'm saying for travel purpose these are light and get you around town they are both cheap and good bang for your buck for a boat bike transportation in town. ...
great vid, Id like a bit more tech info.
What does the fact that there is padding on the pegs have to do with it being a single cylinder bike?
Quite a bit, but mainly the fact that single cylinder motors tend to be more "thumpy" and the rubber on the rearsets lessens the vibrations felt in your feet by a lot. But again, what do I know? 😂😘
I can’t find that windscreen for the Z anywhere on your site. Can you provide a link if it’s third party? P.s. ordered some levers, led lights, and axel sliders for mine. Can’t wait to put them on!!
I can't remember where that part was from. The bike belonged to Mark in the video and he has since sold it. I'm glad to hear that you got youreself some goodies from our store. Enjoy!
for my first motorcycle should i get the grom or 125? i know how to ride though ive ridden scooters dirtbikes and motor bikes. which one handles better snd is safer?
They are pretty equivalent bikes. Small nuances between the two really make it a personal preference thing.
Neither. It depends on the rider's skill.
Went to school in Bushnell lol finally on the map
What shield on Z125?
It was purchased from a private seller and it is not branded. You can try Ebay and stick to USA based sellers.
What bike sounds the best guys
I've not seen a single Z125 in my area but seen Grom almost every day 😁
I'm pretty sure I have the only z125 in my town, but I do see a Benelli 135 cc here and there..
Never seen one of these in person but that could be due to my middle of no where Alaska life :-)
Having a lot of fun researching them and wouldn't mind having one just for fun since no one else appears to have one. Maybe people in Anchorage rides them.
These things are super popular in mainland. Someone must have one in Alaska
@@TSTindustries - I am sure they are but have never seen one in person in my location. I went to Anchorage last month (worst place in the state) and didn't see any then nor the times before, but that does not mean they are not there. I think it would be a lot of fun to make these into a mini ADV bike and ride the Alcan. Say from Big Sky MT through Canada into Fairbanks then into Denali and if someone is really feeling froggy ending the Trip in Seward or Homer AK.
does the kawasaki have a dohc 4 valve like the benelli tnt 125
No sir. It is a two valve setup articulated by a single cam.
Dcr cam you can add to the z125 and make more power. There is a video on it
czcams.com/video/si8sIokqzS8/video.html
Does the grom come.stock with.the. under seat tail.pipe
It does not. We are using the Toce undertail exhaust on this bike. We have anothre video showcasing this exhaust here: czcams.com/video/tJkKxnt8hdI/video.html
That's what I thought I seen people in the comments talking about how the grom looks better with that exhaust but I was pretty sure it didn't come stock with it.
Fun video!
Who makes the levers on the Z1?
We do!
can you ride these bikes if you are 6 foot 3?
Sure, why not?
where is that z125 windscreen from
That windscreen does not have a brand but typing in "Z125 Windscreen" on Google yields great results in finding similar products at a low price.
I have a Z125 pro and it’s up and down with liking it. I have ridden a grom and it’s decent but they’re mini motos so it’ll definitely make you want a bigger bike.
I think they are equivalent bikes. One lacks where the other shines, and vice versa. Both nice mini bikes though.
Which one you feel has the more solid clutch/transmission?
The Z for sure.
Hey, so I'm a taller guy, wondering if the Grom would be comfortable. How tall are you exactly for reference??
John Hutchinson I am neither of the two guys in the video but I own the yellow Grom portrayed. I am 6'0" and I am comfortable on the Grom. I use it as a pit bike at races, use it as a drift/dirt bike at track events in between sessions, and give rides to my daughter around my neighborhood. The Grom is a great fun bike in a compact size.
Would you recommend either of these for my first starter bike or should I go to something like a Ninja 250?
That is a very subjective question. What I can offer is this. The small 125 bikes in this video are extremely user friendly, and tolerant of mistakes. They burn very little fuel. When you crash them they take on minimal damage, parts are very inexpensive, and you aren't going very fast therefore minimizing bodily injury potential. They are not allowed on the fast highways so that keeps you out of big trouble. I believe that the choice will have to be yours, just get all the facts in so you can make an educated one.
You can also check out one of our latest videos where we discuss some of the best beginner bikes.
I’ve only ridden and own HONDA’s not to put anything down on different brands, just never had or rode anything else. But the Kawi is as nice.
My local honda dealer wanted to give me $400 less on a trade in that I purchased from his dealership...so, I went to Kawasaki and got a Z400.
Sounds like you should broaden your horizons...
Enjoyed the review about the nuances of the two. I’m a z125 pro owner and it’s all in all a fun machine truly it is. The construction is solid and they do take a beating. BUT I’ll go on to say that they were not designed to be ridden on major highways with high speed limits where the engine is being subjected to long periods of time at top end driving. City and neighborhood yes for sure. At 4400 miles my Z125 required a total rebuild on the block from crank to valves it was beaten to death from top end abuse and burned. Also the 02 sensor wore out. All is now new again and Kawasaki paid the bill but also said they wouldn’t do it again if it happened which kind of shook me but the 1 year warranty expired anyway. Beyond that I like both bikes lots of mods for them and like was stated parts for the Kawasaki were tough to get at first but now they are plentiful. I’ve retained my bike 100% stock and haven’t changed it. Thanks for sharing the video guys I enjoyed watching it and will look at what other content you have too!
Thank you for sharing your experience.
Eles podiam mandar essas motos para o Brasil
I have the Z125. The only mod I have made is I put on one inch of handle bar lift. I'm 5'11" and I like to set further back on the seat and I wanted the bars to come back to me.
So before the handlebar lift, was hitting your knees a problem, or did you just do that so you could sit further back in the saddle?
@@2gunz122 I had to lean forward too much. It's only an inch higher and 1/2 back but it helps a bit. The bars were also tilted to an odd angle that made me learn further forward. The wiring to the turn signal switch and horn switch won't allow a 2 inch lift. It's just too short.
@@krisgreenwood5173 thanks, and stay safe out there
Which one is better to learn to wheelies ?
They are most likely equivalent in that purpose.
Anybody know the price diffrence
The price difference is minimal except when the manufacturers run some kind of a rebate. During those times I have seen the Kawi 1000 bucks cheaper than Grom. This of course varies by region so pricing in your area may differ.
hi im mark from tst industries heres the diffrence ........... the brand
In fact, one of these bikes is made by Honda, and the other is made by Kawasaki! Holy shit! lol I do want one though
All goes down to which style you like better to me the grom looks better and love the undertail exhaust
The undertail exhaust is an aftermarket item... I personally think underbody exhaust has a much cleaner look to it, and helps to keep weight centered and lower. But of course that is just my personal taste :P
It's funny how Kawasaki increased the fuel capacity on the Z125. I owned a Kawasaki eliminator 125, and that bike held more fuel than any other bike in it's class at almost 3.5 gallons!
And that the Honda has oiling problems and isnt safe to wheelie
What are the two of you wearing?
The suits used in the video are made by RST. The normal outfits are of the riders own choosing including the undersuits/socks.
This is a bike reviews. Why are people caring so much about their socks? Great review guys!
The socks make it easier to jump in and out of a suit quickly. I too don't understand them being the focal point.
I saw a Canadian review that said the Z125 has a speed limiter (to something like 56 MPH). Is that true in the U.S?
This is in fact true.
Thanks for the reply. So, is the Grom significantly faster for highway travel?
@@rob_9876 I believe the grom only reaches 60mph
Cool video
What's better i want to buy one of them
You really have to judge for yourself. The bikes are very similar with only small nuances that make them different.
I'm 5 ft 8 and 220 lb. How fast could it go?
Around 60mph
Where did u get the windscreen for the z125
That was a long time ago. I think Mark got that on Ebay.

I was thinking of getting a bmw r1250r but now im.not sure . 🤔
Where is that track
This is Bushnell Motorsports Park in Bushnell, Florida.
I am 59 this year do you think a grom is good for older riders?
Absolutely! The Grom and Z125 are great for riders all ages with all types of riding experience.
I'm 67 and I use it for commuting 2 miles to work. I can park it in very little space and even on the back patio without anyone complaining.
What is a “newence”?
The difference is that Honda will never be beat.
M 310 idk every honda motorcycle gets smoked by every competitor.
trash can hahahahaha yes
Never be beat up Honda 🤩
@@trashcan9615 not necessarily true . Ever heard of a cr500af ?
trash can yeahhhhhh no I’ll use this thing for 3 years and still sell it for almost what I paid can’t say that about any other brand
Brasil na area tudo bem com vcs showww
Pk... the reason I ask is that traditionally the small 4 stroke Honda motors seem to have a little more power than their competitors.
I think the best form of research you can do on the subject is going through SFLminiGP results and see which bikes are the winningest (if that's a word).
At 5.6 does his knees hits the bars on the z125
Do another video with both bikes and 15 or 20 riders, and put it to a vote. Subjectively, which bike wins in a small sample group?
Mike Thompson we can surely do that if you get us funding.
What’s top speed on the grom?
63-65
Dual piston caliper front on the Grom.
It's a grom.... Doesn't need super good brakes... A shimano bicycle brake would stop these little things just fine XD
Bike Life Motovlogs I have disks on my bicycle they aren't hydraulic buy those exist
Do you have to have a license for these...?
Check your local laws as they vary quite a bit.
Cut the music out please!
Not a good comparison video. 1st half with Brian was great having a non biased rider who does not own either bike. Mark obviously is going to go with the Z since he owns it. There is not many aftermarket parts for the Z being the engine and ecu are so held back. How about you get 2 non biased riders next time you do a comparison video TST
Point taken. Thanks.
What happened with z125? Its no longer the same bike

Eh top demais podia ter no Brasil
I did my motorcycle test on a grom but have owned a Z125. Not sure if I was already too used to mine or what but I found the kawasaki is much more comfortable. I’m a small guy at 5’9 and 140 pounds so either bike is perfect size for me really. Ride them both and make your own judgement. They’re basically the same just depends on your own opinion.

Would you recommend either of these for my first starter bike or should I go to something like a Ninja 250?
I’m 5’5 will I make the bike look normal on me lol?
Did you guys state how tall y’all are
From memory these guys are 5'8" and 5'11"
About motorcycles I don't even own a license at the moment any information about using one of those on the street I do know they are street legal, but purchasing one out the blue will it give an alarm to police officers by chance, just because all of a sudden there is something new be brought out and about, so a license and insurance still needed even for a bicycle like this one.
y don't u go turbo on each or change the cog wheel to a 16 teeth and then ull get insane speed
Maybe a Sneaky Pete nitrous shot too?
