  • “We’ve got to put effort into building up the Ukrainian army to fight back.”

    Russia's economy is dire. Only changing the country over to a war footing has saved it, so far. But this is a vicious financial circle where the money within Russia circulates from the government to the manufacturers then to the workers then, in taxes, back to the government. There is little export income, and this is steadily decreasing.
    This is the most basic description. A great deal of Russia's need to switch to a war economy results from sanctions. These have been crippling to Russia. Even now the secondary sanctions are tightening the financial noose around Russia.
    Sanctions have been effective. Each Russian ploy to circumvent a particular sanction has been thwarted by the next tranche. Lack of Russian revenue has already adversely affected society. Lots of infrastructure needs trained personnel. There aren't enough. Imports are very, very expensive. This is partly the ruble (a) being weak and (b) being refused as payment. I repeat, secondary sanctions are working well.

      @lindabastable3021 Před měsícem

      @03056932 I'm afraid you don't understand how a country's economy is assessed.
      Russia is projected to be the fastest growing economy entirely because Putin has instituted a war economy. As I explained in my original comment, this is actually bad because the money is not being earned by trade or production. It is moving within a closed environment.
      I don't expect you to go to the source to verify my statement. However, that source is Russia's own published data.
