That’s awesome. Those are the best CZcams moments.
@@LockettTech how do I release the yoke steering wheel from the airbag? It’s so much harder then the original wheel. Been trying for two hours
So many yoke haters. You either like it or you don’t. I personally want one for my Y because I like that it looks different. My kids think that my car is a spaceship, so why not make it fun and have a “spaceship” steering wheel? Teslas are fun to personalize and it’s one of the reasons why I love having one! Thanks for the video! 👍🏼
Thank you for having an install video that shows the heating feature. Have a heated yoke on order and it seems 99% of the install vids are for non-heated versions - so this was extremely helpful and eased all of my install fears.
Wow - THEE BEST steering yoke replacement How-To vid out there hands down! I've had my Hansshow yoke replacement sitting 'in a corner' for my Model S P100D because no one wants to 'touch it'. Well thanks to you, you gave me some good 'weekend homework' to do myself. Thank you so much for making this video...1,000 times better than others out there!
So glad I found your video. So much more thorough than the other videos I saw, and thank you for covering the heating differences!
Best yoke installation video there is hands down
Just installed mine, and this video was HUGELY helpful. My Model Y is newer and has the Lithium Ion battery so required taking the frunk out to take the air filter piece out that covers the battery, but otherwise was nearly identical step by step. And how you walked through taking out the inside parts and moving them to the yoke made all the difference. Thank you!!
Ok mine is newer as well, do I really need to disconnect the battery? Obviously there are videos out there that doesn't do it.
@@larryt1004 for me it was peace of mind since taking an airbag out makes me nervous. The extra few minutes to get to the batteries is better than the broken nose and recovery if I accidentally set off the airbag.
Thank you for a comprehensive install (including heated option!) ! Liked, subscribed and looking forward to your new videos.
I liked that because we got both your opinions. Thanks guys.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! It was extremely helpful and very detailed.
You are so good. I appreciate it. Thank you.
waiting on my yoke to come in, but definitely going to reference your video when i do my install. Thanks in advanced! Also, your wife is hilarious LOL
Don't encourage her....lol.
Great video very detailed. Thank you
Great camera angles.
Good install video. Thanks. I’m not a fan of the yoke but near to see it installed.

Great video! Did you get a gloss or matte carbon fiber finish?
Nice and sufficient information!
Just got a quick question. When putting the wheel back, you mentioned in the video that kind of feeling weird it does not go all the way back in. But wouldn't the 10mm bolt eventually push the wheel back into the very far end? Let me know if i am thinking in the wrong way.
Dang… first video that’s made me consider it! I’m a top of the wheel driver too. Stalks look easier to access too. Great vid guys! Instrument cluster on steering column next?
Great question…maybe if we can find one that looks oem enough. Any recommendations?
@@LockettTech Megawatts did a review on it a few months ago.
Good video. Did you adjust the yoke so you can rest your arm on the door arm rest instead of the window sill.
Nice job.
Intresting. All other videos makes it looks so simple but Heated one looks complicated to do it.
Just ordered with your code. Basically got the Heating add on for free! Hope you get a referral reward :)
Are you able to transplant the guts from the original wheels along with the metal scroll wheels to the yoke?
You GOT to be Yoking me man!
Is there any kind of capacitor in airbags ? That way even if power has been removed there is residual energy to deploy the airbag still ?
Chris my friend, the white leather ellipse yoke for my Model 3 Performance with white interior looks like it’d be stupidly sexy. Wasn’t aware they were available. My wife said to tell you her wallet doesn’t like you right now. She’ll be ok. Great video!!
Haha. All good man…the Tesla has camping mode! I agree…white leather would look sick!
Thanks so much! I’m curious- are you planning to install one of the instrument clusters now that you have the yoke steering wheel? Live the videos!
Thinking about it. Trying to find a good stock looking one though. Any suggestions?
@@LockettTech Hansshow has a new one with a smaller bezel and better graphics which looked pretty nice, it also supposedly reduces how much it blocks air flow. Top fit also has one, it attaches to the back of the steering wheel vs the dash. Top Fit is a simpler one that just displays basic car functions whereas the Hansshow one also supports Android/Apple Car Play. Love your videos!

Great review, I don’t think I’ll do the yoke!
Question.
If my model y don’t have heated wheel. Do I still need to unscrew those part from old steering wheel (minute 13.21 in video) and put into new yok wheel?? Or the new yok wheel have everything and we just need to put airbag in to make it complete?
Great video. Got my yoke installed but the electrical component for the airbag is clicking. Any thoughts on how to fix the clicking?

Torque specs for putting wheel back on?
12v check and main battery check but even I tried to remove air bag thing, but only two popped up, I feel tension on the bottom one. Please help me.
Hi Lockett, awesome videos, really helped another PA resident out :) Quick question, out of all the Yoke available out there, Aroram, Haanshow, etc. have you looked into whether which is better, best or are they all the same?

Did you re-install the three screws that you originally removed to take off the wheel? I didn't see that part. However, great review.
I had the same question
Nice video. What do you think the torque specs are for the center bolt?
Tight as...

Thanks for the detailed installed. I just skip the steps of disconnecting the battery but the other steps were really helpful. Thanks!
So I got mine installed and then when I did everything seems working fine except the heating it’s too weak like really weak
Great video!! Installed my yoke today. Only problem was the steering wheel lights no longer work. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?
they do not have the LED for the lights on the yolk
I just used the OEM parts on the yoke and it works fine
GREAT Video - How does this change/impact your warranty and insurance?
Doesn't impact either.
Great video just curious what about software update does it effect the functionality of the buttons? And how is leather on the steering hold up?
It's most likely the same wheel and same electronic inside of it they just cuted thr wheel around it and customized it.
Buttons still work fine with no issues. We actually have a review coming up on this very soon as we have learned a lot about it since having it...both good and bad.
@@LockettTech What are the bad things?
Do you like the Caron fiber on the side compared to the leather finish?
I actually did. It looks different and I thought gave it a nice touch. Made it look more sporty but not over the top.
Does this void the warranty? I just got my Y and love the look.

Thanks for the video. Do we need to apply glue to tighten the hex bolt?
NO!!! Do not glue the hex bolt.
@@LockettTech Thanks a lot!
I have probably a dumb question - I ordered an OEM look-alike yoke where the plate is not different aesthetically, do I need to swap everything out or can I simply put the old wiring case/plate in the new yoke?
If it has the heated wheel function then you'll likely need to swap it out but check with the manufacturer. Those internals all control the heating function.
@@LockettTech yah it's the Hansshow heated version. But it looks like the only reason you had to pull the guts out of the old wheel to put into the new yoke was because the plate was different on the yoke. And I don't know if it's different as in "just the looks" or its a different size to fit on the yoke. I could be wrong - we'll find out shortly. Hoping to install today or tomorrow!
Did you notice any increase/decrease in FSD warnings ie “keep hands on wheel” with the yoke?
Not at all. Actually, I find it easier to use with autopilot. The flat bottom surface makes it much more comfortable and natural to just rest my hand on it and satisfy AP's hand-on-wheel requirement.
Hi . Are you installing this yoke foe model Y .
Which year of this model Y please ? Thanks
Yes this is a 2021 model Y install.
Best video I’ve seen so far! 2 questions- did you plug the heater element from the new wheel in when you were installing the frame and wiring harness or after? And second question - how is the actual heating?
When I installed it and the heating has been great. It’s noticeable but not over the top.
@@LockettTech thanks for the follow-up!

Hello 👋 I have a very interesting question that I would like you to answer, so I bought the steering yoke with not heating capability but my Tesla does have the option so you think there would be any problem with it if I install it??
I don't think there would be an issue but I would ask the manufacturer.
No there was not any issue I already installed and works great 😃
How do you like the yoke heated steering wheel? I’d like to get it installed on my MYP. Do you know any installers that would install the Yoke heated steering wheel and the Hannshow 8 inch media screen for the rear passengers?
I liked it and would have kept it but we ended up removing the yoke. Michelle preferred the normal wheel and she drives it daily. If you are anywhere near us call EVolution Autosports...they do these upgrades.
Question. So my 2019 model 3 performance doesn't have a heated steering wheel. Is the OEM wiring already set up for this upgrade, or will this only work on models that already have a heated steering wheel? If the answer is that it will work on my car, then does the heated steering wheel on and off icon start to appear on the screen after the install. As in, the computer senses that the new heated steering wheel has been installed, thus it populates the icon somewhere where the temp controls are located? Thanks and sorry for the long question(s)
Yes it will work still. You just don’t have the transfer the inside wiring. The icon will not power anything but it is recognizing the wheel is capable.
Hey Chris, how much was the Yoke? It looks really cool and makes the Y unique! You made the install "Look" really easy!!
Ranges from $700-1,100 depending on the configuration you want. I am not an automotive guy AT ALL…it really is that easy of an install.
@@LockettTech Thanks, I'm sure you're gonna do a review down the road on this so I'll keep tuned in........
Some other CZcams videos suggest a torque wrench do you recommend it or do we go as tight as it can go
A torque wrench is always the safest way...I didn't have one though so went as tight as I could get it.
I got a torque wrench to take my wheels off for a wheel insulation install and I'm a 100lb female on a good eating day and 3 layers of winter gear. I got a 10 mm reducer bit to use it on the steering wheel replacement. I'm prepared to sit my entire weight on the torque wrench to loosen that bolt.
FYI that the service manual states to replace the hex bolt (it is torque-to-yield, so single use) and to tighten the new hex bolt to 59 ft. lbs. with a torque wrench. You mentioned “safety first” while tightening the old bolt without a torque wrench, so that should be called out.
Great video otherwise - thanks for documenting the process the entire way through.
Regardless of the safety manual, the original bolt is torqued WAY behond 59ft lbs. Around 130 I would estimate.
@@toddrichert2749 Mine certainly wasn't torqued beyond what I felt was stated in the service manual. II used a breaker bar and the bolt "cracked" and then loosened up with just one pull. There might be some variances on the assembly line - I'll give you that... but upon replacing the bolt - I went with what the service manual said and I used a torque wrench and put it right at 59 and called it done. That felt very, very tight when you are trying to put that much counter torque on the wheel to actually make the torque wrench click. 130lb ft would be tighter than most lug nuts, and they've got the weight of the wheel/car holding them stationary so you can get to that number... I don't see 130 on the steering column being feasible at all, IMHO.
@@eightbitwhit as an engineer I also see 130 being WAY too high. The lugnuts on my 2500 diesel are 100 for Gods sake.
@@MechInvent agreed. The wheel gets pressed into the splines as it's drawn down, so it truly doesn't need so much torque to hold it there. 130 is beyond overkill, IMHO.
I’m curious if you had to do all the “extra steps” because you were installing a yoke that wasn’t built with the heating function. Mine will be here in a couple of weeks from PimpMyEV and it was built as a heated yoke so I expect it to be just the airbag and control connections that are unplugged and reconnected.
Check the instructions provided but mostly likely you will. It seems to be the norm that the control box and horn harness all need to be moved over and are not provided in the new yokes.
Did you need to switch out ‘guts’?
Turns out I did need to use the original guts. I can’t believe how many install videos make it look like you just pull the old wheel off and pop the yoke on. Thanks for this detail so I now know exactly what I’m doing!
Oh, and FYI…absolutely no instructions included.
If we don’t disconnect power, will the airbag pop out ?
It shouldn’t but it still got power so…
Could I reuse the stock (non carbon fiber trims) with the arrows by the scroll wheel? I know you lose the lighted arrows if you use a carbon fiber trim.
Yes, you can reuse the stock scroll wheel assemblies. You will need to remove two T10 screws on each in order to remove them from the OEM wheel and then move them over to the new wheel/yoke.
I did just this on mine so as to retain the lighted arrows and keep a more subdued look.
@@eightbitwhit awesome. I saw videos of doing so but I wasn't sure if that was specific to certain yoke configurations. I didn't want carbon fiber as I don't like that look nor do I have that anywhere on my car. Ok I had no choice with the spoiler for my MYP but I prefer to use my stock.
@@larryt1004 totally understand. Just take your time, be deliberate and careful and you'll be fine.
@@eightbitwhit thanks it will be arriving next week so I think with all the videos I watch j feel like I have replaced 100 steering wheel lol.
Does this work for model x or is that different model steering wheel
The yoke will work on any but when you order just make sure it's for the MX. The fittings on the back may be different.
Ok I finally installed my yoke steering wheel. Loving it. Heating wise I don't know if it's supposed to be very light. I never used he heating on my original steering wheel so I don't have a comparison. Are your very hot or very noticeable. Mine is barely.
I wouldn't say it's strong heat but it's noticeable. Glad you like the yoke!
If you have a model 3 2020 (before the heating steering wheel was a thing), is it possible to do a retrofit for this yoke to work with heating somehow?
I have the Alcantara Yoke steering wheel. No heating, but better than leather.
Not that I'm aware of. Even if you buy the heated yoke the car still needs to be able to tell the heating components to turn on. You wouldn't have those components.
my handshow yolk was just bare also i will have to remove every part of my oem wheel and move it all over for the new yolk and install the carbon fiber parts also...only thing stoping me from installing it is the spine is rusty looking and quality dosent look same like yours and other channels i see on youtube
Unless it’s tesla I’m not adding anything but it looks cool
Way to many options!! I have a black interior 2022 Y Pro
What did you get why all the add-ons? What the H!! I thought I wanted one... Good video tho
Then the price is all over the map!!!
Worth the change besides it looks cool?
Michelle did not like it. I did. Split votes here.
Does that void warranty or insurance coverage by any chance?
No
What about the warranty
One day when Tesla decides to let me have my car… i plan to install this too… one day
is there yoke specific airbags? people say the airbag will fold over in an accident because the OEM one is made for round steering wheels and relies on the top steering wheel to support it. 🤷♂️
No. The steering column itself, which also includes the airbag housing, is the original Tesla part. The only difference is the wheel grip is altered. The airbag are still 100% functional.
@@LockettTech thanks for the response! People were saying the yoke on the S & X have special airbags but i couldn’t find any info to verify. so I’ll just enjoy my yoke! 🤙
Great video!
Is the torque spec anywhere to be found? Also, loctite or similar? It looked like there was some on that center bolt?
If I come to PA would you be able to install... charge me !!
Could you not just keep the lighted center guts together and install that from the old wheel to the new yoke wheel if one chooses to do so? That way one does not have to move the internals from old to new when they are happy with their existing matte & color there. Could not locate anything online for that clarity. Great video by the way.
I haven’t tried it but given the wheel assembly is a genuine Tesla part that should work if you are not changing the finish of the wheel trim.
@@LockettTech.... I'll give it a go when I get the part and provide feedback whether it works or not. Thanks for the response.
I just did the install and moved the entire center console from my old wheel to the new yoke with absolutely no problem. Thank you for great tutorial video you produced as it went flawlessly when following step- by- step.
@@michaelt1858 thank you for sharing as this is exactly what I want, no carbon fibre just matte black. Shame there is some on the outer edges of wheel.
Is the new yoke wheel the same thickness as the original wheel? Also what version yoke is this? looks like there are 3 different shapes on the site
The steering wheel bolt must be torqued to 80 nM
Thank you!!!
Looks cool but I would miss driving with my hand on the top of the steering wheel.
Not gonna lie...I do. And there is no more driving with your knee (like when you try to drive and eat at the same time).
@@LockettTech 😂😂😂 i thought i was the only one
I have a yoke on order and this is my worry as well. Have spent a few weeks trying to NOT hold any part of the top of the stock wheel just to "train my brain" in preparation. That said - holding the top of the wheel while driving is technically not safe... us older "10 and 2" drivers... nowadays that is actually unsafe with modern airbags. My daughters were both taught in driving school "9 and 3" wheel holding. Seems the yoke forces that. Not a bad thing?
Are you still using the yoke? Still liking it?
Yes. We are planning a follow up video on it soon for you guys.
bro can u put one on a masda lol
After installing the yoke I have to push really hard to have the horn go off. I had tesla look at it and they said they don’t know what the issue is. Anyone else having the same issue?
I haev the same issue, im pulling mine back off today and going to reinstall it. I'll let you know
I installed my new yoke for my model y 2020 and now it’s showing steering wheel scroll buttons and horn unavailable. Service required to restore functionality. I did not disconnect the 12v battery when installing and I believe that’s why the error code popped up. Now my horn doesn’t work or the scroll wheels. Can you help!?
Oh man. Sorry to hear. I would try disconnecting both the 12V and the main battery so it does a full system restart. Beyond that maybe try calling Hansshow for support?

Just ran across you because Im going to be installing a yoke on my model Y this week. The only question I have right now is when you took the main center screw out why did you cut the video not showing us how you broke the lock tight on the bolt? Than you.
It's just good ole fashion muscle and leverage. I used a pipe over the socket wrench to gain more leverage.
I figured you did but you clearly said you'll show us everything. Lots of edits and cuts in this one. But in the end I learned a lot. Thank you @@LockettTech
I have an older Model 3 without steering wheel heat and my main battery disconnect is under the rear passenger seat. But I need a video that showed the guts transfered. I have to transfer the balls and all.
LOL, I'll just check another video for the air bag transfer, hahaha!
Make sure you cuff the balls before moving them to the new yoke or they may not function well .
@@jhodges7041 I had access to a heated steering wheel, so I just took the entire ball assembly from that one and transfered them to the yoke.
For those considering in 2023... Hansshow DOES NOT use OEM parts anymore. They use (like every other reseller) Chinese copy parts that have a sturdy (seemingly) ABS base. Nothing in the current product they ship is OEM. They do still advertise images that show them using genuine OEM parts, but they in fact DO NOT. This really seems like a shady bait & switch, by sending all of these reviewers and influencers better versions of what they actually sell... got mine today and no OEM parts to be found.
We have some more recent videos about Hansshow in general. Left this one up though as a guide on how to install for those that still wish to purchase it.
Ive been perfectly happy with my Hansshow products.
They don’t work, my car was grinding and braking, it said my lane keeping was unavailable
l sense some increased fear of accidentally deploying airbags, while holding tools in your hand, in front of you.
Or just because I like you!!!
How many people live at your house that you need that many garbage cans! :)
Lol. We like to be prepared.
It is a juke!!!!!
Only owners that want the yoke are owners that don’t have the yoke.
As tight as you can. NO, 59 ft-lbs
I was scammed and so infuriated. My yoke stick came in but was not a Tesla yoke stick or just poorly built it took me about 5 hours to get it even together and when I went to snap in the horn and air bag it would not fit. Please if someone can help me escalate this and make hanshow accountable for this I would greatly appreciate the help. I waited 2-3 weeks just to waste 5-7 hours of my day and now spend anther 5-7 hours to put back the only one due to having work early in the morning tomorrow. This is just so disappointing and a waste of money .

Big price difference bro. Probably don’t want to spend that
But I don’t want to spend 50k on an x for slightly better range, slightly better room, and a yoke… a $400 yoke will do me good and I’ll save 50k 🤔
I think the opposite makes more sense. Why buy an S or X when you can have the fun of driving one by just installing the yoke.
