I read in a magazine article a few years back that during the making of the movie Misery, its director Rob Reiner was under constant pressure to cast a someone better know to play Annie Wilkes and among the names that were suggested were Kirstie Alley, Jamie Lee Curtis, Diane Keaton, Melanie Griffith, and even Madonna. But in a way to defy the status quo in Hollywood Reiner picked then unknown Kathy Bates to play the role. Reiner's gamble sure paid off in my opinion.
She is in a film. “At Play in the Fields of the Lord” about crooked missionary people in South America. She has a breakdown and ends up naked in the mud. Great film. Brave actor!
