  • This retrospective isn't so much about the history of the NES, but about all the memories we share about the system, commercials, movies cartoons, merchandise, and all the experiences we had with playing games. For this video I compiled archival news footage, commercials, gameplay, lots of shots, and home movies from my good friend Tyler at My Retro Life (see his channel link below) to really highlight all the idiosyncrasies of the Nintendo Entertainment System. I hope you enjoy!

It was even better to have been more than 1975. My age group was the one that drove the need for this system to be created because it was the first video game system that played a video game better than it was in the arcade. And they had never even duplicated the arcade. At that point, it was glorious.😂❤

I rewatch this video A LOT, sharing it with friends, as well as watching it just to stay trapped in my 80s kid bubble. For everyone that was there... for everyone that'd ever thought about those moments encapsulated in our hearts & minds, giving us something to smile about, even in the toughest times... we thank and salute you with NES controllers in-hand.
This video alone is of such high quality in both its descriptive elements, as well as its insights, that it may one day inspire later ages to go on their OWN journey in this confusing and dangerous world to either seek out an NES of their own... or treasure whatever entertainment they currently posess, if they haven't already.
I only wish I could meet you; one 80s kid to another. You're out there doing what I only wished I had the courage to... sharing and describing with lush detail... your memories and what they're worth, on a fabulous show that's not only popular... but all your very own.

All of this stuff from the 80s and early 90s now almost seem like heaven to me. I miss that whole era before the internet. It just seemed like a better and more innocent world.
Now that we have it we can't imagine not having it. But it was a lot less stressful... especially before social media and 24 x 7 news. People just lived their lives, interacted more, and didn't get so stressed out and caught up with everything going on in the world. The US just seemed so much more easygoing and balanced back in the 80s and 90s.
It is hard to even fathom how office workers functioned without email. They probably actually did more work and didn't get bogged down by so much ridiculous nonsense.

When I had my SNES and PS1 with the N64 later on,life was fantastic, not only cause the game system's,it was the fact that the world outside was a better place than it was now and these consoles remind us when the world was more laid-back

It was truly a great time to not only be a gamer but just be alive period. The 80s and 90s were so much fun. Every kid on the playground would be talking about what secret they had found the previous night in Zelda or metroid, or how close they came to finally beating Mike Tyson. I wouldn't trade my childhood for anything. I got my Nintendo for Christmas in 1988, and I've owned almost every Nintendo system since then. Sony and Microsoft really upped the industry graphics wise, but I almost always find myself playing my switch now more than my ps5

I will forever remember the day I discovered my now beloved nes in my grandma's shed. I had been searching for my old ds and when I moved stuff over in one of those plastic tubs there it was, I didn't understand what it was when I saw it at first, but it was sitting there as if it had been waiting for someone to uncover it again after all these years. I brung it inside and went through it, I was in awe like never before, it felt like Christmas came early. I spent hours carefully cleaning it, the game paks, and controllers. That night my grandma and I spent hours setting it up as it was on a newer tv and we got confused. The first game we got working was Dr. Mario, without the manual I was lost but determined to play so I spent a good couple of hours mastering it. My nes is my greatest treasure, I want to keep it in good condition so the next generation can enjoy it too!
