  • I was full of positive expectations for the Lava, having used some excellent fire Maple Stoves before. Sadly, this time, despite my best efforts, I could not get the stove to function with liquid fuel.
    i anticipate that Fire Maple will get this sorted soon, as they have got back to me and said that these first release issues are being resolved and there will be an updated version.
    so subscribe and keep an eye out for this playlist.

    I can't speak for this particular stove, but if this happened to me, I'd pull the jet, flush the line, prick the jet and make sure there are no chunks of crap to get forced back into the orifice and try again. At first look, it appears the pricker just pushed the obstruction back into the jet only to reclog it. Likely a bit of swarf from the machining process that didn't get blown out.

    One review mentions a leaky gasket, one says and shows they are really well made. That Soto looks great , thanks for the video. I look forward for a follow up video.

      Me too. Fire maple says that they are looking at some revisions and will get back to me. Will let you know. Thanks for commenting my friend.

    I've watched other reviews. The problem is they haven't used proper fuel-grade seal/oring at the regulator junction. What happens is it runs fine on butane. Then you switch to petrol/camp fuel and the oring gets swollen the moment it comes in contact with it, blocking the free flow of fuel.

      Yes, I saw that yesterday. I am going to try to fix it. It is a real shame that this inexpensive fix has caused so many problems. Thanks for the comment and pointer.

    White Gas Mode-You still have it half stripped down-you need the pre heat caps,muffler etc screwed on top. I imagine it supplies fuel then stops as a safety feature.

    I've been using this stove and I did find an issue with a seal. I'll be having a video come out in the next day or discussing the seal issue and a way to fix it. Hopefully FireMaple will offer a modified seal. I know how frustrating it can be man.

      Nice one Shane. Let me know how you get on. Should be up to fire maple to sort this.

    I would pull the nozzle to clean, by pricking it in the stove you are just pushing any obstructions down into the fuel line.

      It's been solved as an o ring expansion issue!

    Turn around 3 times and spit then divide by Pi?
    Looks complex.
    Appreciate the determination to make it work.

    Can you do a review of the firebox nano to see what gas burners can fit down and bolt into its base please? Particularly stoves that have preheat loops for liquid feed but if they don’t fit then what’s the best cold weather option?
    Eg Firebox blade 2 titanium ultralight, Whisperlite Universal, Soto storm breaker.
    Or even the Soto Fusion if it does almost as well in the cold as the liquid feed stoves?
    Thanks

    Liquid fuel stoves like that has always scared me, petrol under pressure and my luck just won’t end well 😂 I did get a Primus express spider some months back on sale as I was wanting a remote canister stove for gas that is not my trangia. Found out there is a conversion kit for it to use with liquid fuels, but not sure if I’m going to be trying my luck.

      I have always loved the latent roaring power and that delicious transition from licking yellow flame to the tight pure blue. Towards the end messing on with this stove though a little voice was saying that was enough of fiddling on with white gas with a tricky burn! 😳

      @AndrewParkOutdoors Před rokem +2

      Mmm, that's put me right off that type of stove, far too complex, too many parts to go wrong, I'll stick to my soto windmaster, even though the piezo lighter gave up on that too! Imagine you'd been on a sledding exp in the Arctic and that happened 😮

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  Před rokem

      @AndrewParkOutdoors I don't think they are any more complex on the whole, just appear that way as they are field serviceable. In really cold conditions white gas is great. Thanks for commenting A

    Twig stove and trangia I'll stick with them , no faff with them lol

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  Před rokem +1

      Well, to be fair you would probably have one fuel for each trip so less faff! I guess it's the right stove at the right time.

    Can’t beat a quality stove unfortunately
    There is no time to faff on,
    Soto, MSR, have never failed me even OEX do ok
    Cheers

    • @Fellmandave1
      @Fellmandave1  Před rokem +1

      Agreed. But my oex vulcan was well dodgy in the cold. Then when I burnt the hose, no parts support whatsoever. Cheap at the time but disposable. I have a soto stormbreaker waiting in the wings, which, to be honest, I do not need and cannot justify. But my Lord, it's beautiful. So, will be using that, just for the sheer pleasure of it's engineering. In fact, that's given me an idea for a video, "why wild campers jack off over their gear"! Disclaimer, I may of been drinking.
