      @@xcept1281 that makes sense... for me, I like this film because I’m in love with frozen 2 so the first frozen automatically is pretty alright to me, but it always felt pretty weak plot-wise. It makes much more sense now if they were kind of scrambling to find a new villain; maybe they couldn’t get it to quite the level they wanted it to be at because they had to rush production. :)

  • @icafed
    @icafed Před 4 lety +29

    the movie was actually heavily marketed towards Olaf and Anna at first, they didn't even show Elsa properly until the very last trailer released a few days before the movie came out. Then Elsa and her song blew up, everyone loved her more than Anna to the point that you couldn't find a single piece of merchandise with her in it for months. Since then they completely changed the marketing and it's all Elsa now. Frozen 2 is definitely Elsa's movie, both sisters are heavily in it and their screen time is roughly the same but the story is about her.

    • @lilliesinthegard32
      @lilliesinthegard32 Před 4 lety +16

      I see what you mean but "Helpless female had to be rescue by a prince"? As far as I remember Belle from Beauty and the Beast was the one to save the prince, or Pocahontas saving John, or Mulan saving China, that disney mold was broken long ago. People have that idea just because of the older disney princesses films

    • @rochelledunlap9993
      @rochelledunlap9993 Před 4 lety +8

      @@lilliesinthegard32 I guess I phrased that incorrectly. What I meant was in Frozen, the women stayed independent. They didn't have to have a man at their side in order to be fulfilled. They got their "happily ever after" by themselves.

    • @TwistedSynn
      @TwistedSynn Před 4 lety +4

      Yeah they weren't the first to do that, a lot of the princess's were strong, that wasn't what broke the mold, what did it was the whole falling in love having just met the person even though you know nothing about the, like most Disney movies, they meet the prince then fall instantly in love and get married. In this one they showed how Anna fell in love with someone she knew nothing about that turned out to be a bad person. Also the sacrifice of a act of true love at the end managed to be the true love Anna had for her sister and not the true love she had for someone she met that day. Making it more realistic than most Disney films of the past. Most Disney princess's were strong and didn't just helpless's get saved, at least the newer one's are Classic princess's is a different story. But Belle saved Beast from Gaston, Ariel and Eric fought Ursula, Tangled she fought a lot, Pocahontas he'd be dead if she didn't save him, Mulan defeated an Army with a firework and saved the nation, and so on.

    I think there’s a symbology in Frozen that makes me love it; i immaginate that elsa’s powers are like her emotions,what she has on the inside and if she can’t control them she’ll be overwhelmed by them. Is a great metaphore in my opinion,it means also Elsa had panic attacs and emotional instability and just in the end,when she realized she is loved and became more confident can control them and use them for common good. I love this message. Obliviulsy, music and the setting were awesome.Addicting that we have two sister totally different and a dinamyc not so distant;for some reason (the power in this case) the bigger sister/brother is so distant from the little one,who starts feeling lonely, sad and that he’s doing something wrong. I really liked this dynimic,it’s very real.Also i appreciate that the classical “true love“ of disney this time is totally upset, Hans (the “true love“) was the bad guy and also i liked that we have for the first time a diney prince who isn’t handsome. I wonder when we could get a disney princess not stunning....
    By the way,that’s what i like more about frozen,tell me your opinion about ly

    Many criticize Elsa for the display of control in Let it Go but it’s more than that. In the comments of this I’ll explain and talk about the drawbacks of killing Elsa in the movie that shouted at many who watched the movie.

    • @SL-lv8im
      @SL-lv8im Před 4 lety

      Control:
      Elsa had showed control in the beginning
      even if she was only a child. Reason? It’s been with her since birth thus cultivated
      it in comfort and freedom
      However, the darker aspects of her gift
      was revealed harshly to her with hurting
      her SISTER!! When only a child.
      This drowned in fear and self-hate. This
      was furthered with having to isolate the
      family, and HIDE her gift - now curse -
      even from her sister.
      When her curse grew stronger, so did her
      fear and feeling of being a monster. This
      caused Elsa to try and push down all her
      power. Like trying to push a lid down on
      a container of growing water. Thus made cracks and had drops seeping out.
      It’s obvious Elsa’s powers are based off
      her emotions base don my analysis
      Continuing, Elsa was no longer chained
      by the reasons of her fear and had the
      chance to be HER, to be free once again, with the reveal and running away to be truly isolated among the mountain
      With this, her powers were free as well
      and Elsa regained her control as a child
      now that her emotions and mental state
      East holding it back
      However, at the end of the day, it was the
      control she had as a CHILD, even if it’s a
      tenfold stronger. I say this as Elsa never
      had to reverse her ability and never had the chance to.
      As a child it was for fun
      Growing up, she locked it away
      This incapability to reverse the damage she caused. Said damage being a result
      of her lack of experience/control and is
      likely also the backlash of her pushing down her powers

    • @SL-lv8im
      @SL-lv8im Před 4 lety

      Death:
      Elsa’s powers are primarily internal and described it as having an “swirling storm inside”
      Did no one consider that if they killed Elsa, that the storm would get worse?
      I see Elsa as the vessel of a wild power
      inside her. Elsa is able to use it with an number of ‘controls’ like emotions and
      intent. If you take away the vessel, you
      know KILL here then the power is no
      longer subdued or control then it’s free
      - lashing wildly and uncontrollably

If any crash could transport their ship from presumably Norway to the jungles of Africa, I’d say it’s the enchanted forest. I say this knowing Disney will probably never make it canon, but it’s what I choose to believe. It makes too much sense and is way too good of an idea to just be chucked away by Disney. The Disneyverse has to live on.

    This reminded me a bit of Malificant and Penelope in that you think that the cure is a bit of Shirbert-like snogging. I think this makes sense for my niece's generation where most of her friend's parents are divorced. There is love, it exists, but in many forms besides romantic love. And romantic love comes from getting to know each other and still wanting to be with the person.
    Elsa loved Anna, it was her fear that kept her in that room. Fear made the magic hard to control.
    Made sure that any Frozen things I got for the future grandchild included Kristof - makes it gender neutral. The gender specific stuff can be gotten later. Though there is one glass that only has Olaf on it.

    The main problem with Frozen is they split focus between Anna and Elsa. They should have either stuck to a story about a princess overcoming her naivety or a princess overcoming persecution (the stronger of the two emotionally imo, and it's why Elsa is the face of Frozen). I think making both the main story made the film less coherent.

    So when I watched Frozen my best friend said her family had passed down a similar story, only bloody and no love interests or snowman, oh and the powers generally skip a generation and the trolls were actually the elders. Then an old woman who'd never seen it, same. Then I talked about it to a friend who loves all things Scandinavian to confirm. I got a yes, but (tragic part) we lost touch before I could get proof 😭. Even worse I suck at research in foreign languages. But long story short this is what I was told is a folk legend called the Ice Queen (not the snow queen but it wouldn't surprise me if it inspired Anderson's story even as a lot of writers did that, not even sure that's the title):
    Two princesses, one with ice powers accidentally hurt her sister. Parents panicked and went to the elders. Elders warned them not to make her afraid of herself or she'd go crazy and kill everyone. They didn't listen and as an adult she killed them at sea with ice waves (sound familiar yet?). Coming home she shut the Kingdom, a suspicious merchant discovers her secret, dies, sister learns her secret and she runs leaving the town in winter in her panic. The sister loved her so she went after her only to tragically be impaled in the heart with ice. This enraged her country and they started a war against the Queen. Many die, she is killed and the town stays frozen forever. The end.
    Someday I hope someone online can confirm/help with proof. It's the main reason I do this every chance I get. It would just be cool is all. I do think the two male characters are actually the two sides of Kai from the snow queen though. I think the reindeer is snow queen/Tangled horse and Olaf classic Disney.

      if true, what does that story tell you about the destructive nature of fear?

    • @barbarabaker1457
      @barbarabaker1457 Před 4 lety

      @@vaudreelavallee3757 Mostly that it can divide families and even self. What I love is that if it is true, Disney kept the same message intact. Fear, lack of acceptance of self or loved ones can have terrible consequences. I mean death is obviously higher stakes but, it's a kids movie and few know how to do that correctly, Lion King, Coco, Land Before Time, Bambi etc. It's rare to find people willing to say a kid can handle that kind of symbolism with death in spite of it being a trope to lose parents. Frankly it's still beautifully done if really taken from a folk tale. The snow man song is adorable too. And Olaf was a nice touch of her powers being a good thing. I don't think the original showed why they could be good. Though I might have put let it go where she decides to go back for her sister. Abandoning home vs accepting self and sisterly love/familial acceptance and all.
