#WaxOnly #GangStarr
One of the greatest albums in Hip-Hop history.
Aaron Starks amen
Nah not quite... I don't feel he found his grove yet. When he first came in the game with These are the words that I 'MANIFEST' (allah' Big Daddy Kane) that was dope but the overall early album was missing consistency to me. Moment Of Truth to me his best album.. other albums had hot multiple single tracks like Step In the Arena etc..---Was at his show in NYC with DJ Premier cutting live. Dope experience 1998/1999.. got off just talking right beside me to my college friend DJ Sugar Ray, Cool mellow smart dude. Guru. Video of club performance was on video music box (or name change) can see me and crew jumping hands in the air to Dwyck with Greg Nice & Smooth performing with him... Bumpy knuckles was there... crazy small club but man they killed it live. DJ Premier comes on stage in a mask to set up equipment before he starts. All scratch live. A Real skilled sick DJ...
Most definitely.
Contrary to Craig Henry, I think Gang Starr's earlier albums (No More Mr Nice Guy/Step In The Arena/Daily Operation, and Hard To Earn, were very consistent as individual works, and of the time they were released.
The Premo consistency Craig may be referring to in my opinion started around Moment Of Truth onwards, but definitely, the works prior to that were as consistent as it gets for a Hip Hop group that enjoyed the longevity that Gang Starr did until Guru's passing.
I would be hard pressed to find anyone from the era when Daily Operation dropped, who was rockin to those beats and rhymes, who would not rate that album as one of the greatest albums in Hip Hop history. Damn, Guru made me look up the meaning of the word 'soliloquy'!
East New York Brooklyn
true...its 2 deep 👌
step into the arena, daily operation, hard to earn, moment of truth, the ownerz. that was a great run for Gangstar.
Indeed bro. And go back and check out No More Mr. Nice Guy. I bet you'll appreciate how good that one was despite being put together hurriedly..
No More Mr Nice Guy?
@@marqueshunter695 Hell yeah! I was just going to say this! To hear how much Guru's voice changed, and the growth from that album to the next.
well said, Guru was grossly underrated! Gang starr is last of the good ole school groups!
premier is a genius with the sampling
My favourite song off the album is "Soliloquy of chaos". The beat, a fairy kind of melody, GURU's monotonous rapping, man... Pure magic. I often listened to this when i was a youngster. That's how a childhood sounds to me.
Preemo looped it nasty✊🏾❤️
Gives me goosebumps everytime that beat comes on. It's so smooth🔥
This is where preemo's gritty boom bap sound started compared to their first two albums 👊👊
I love 92 Interlude
definitely, the 24-7/365 interlude is dope too
Really short interludes but still solid
Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal
R.I.P. guru
Dj Premier is the illest.
Indeed 🙏🏿
My favorite Gang Starr album!
#RIPGuru
#OneOfTheBestYet
Blazin' #MomentOfTruTH! 💯
Same!
I never knew that was Grand Puba saying "Take it personal"!!!!
Daaaaaaaamn.. sure is.
R.I.P. Guru , Vinny you did it again ☺️
One of the best last rap band, with best rapper #ripguru and best DJ and producer DJ Premier #preemo. I miss this area #90s, the golden area of hip hop.
25 years! i remember when this came out! i've noticed thru this series a lot of producers and djs using the same samples, but Premiers samples were different, thats what set him apart from most.
RIP Guru, he spit some serious deep lyrics this album
I wants this man's vinyl collection
#RIPGuru
This was a crazy mix. Such a dope series. Daily Operation is one of the classic Hip Hop Albums one of my favorites. DJ Premier my personal favorite producer. Guru forever. What made this dope is how Preem flipped the original beats. A little 2-3 second sample on a part of the song most producers would have overlooked. The chopping skills were serious.
This album is classic on so many levels.
✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿✊🏿 imagine just being a fly on the wall, when these producers are creating these beats. DAMN!!!
RIP to one of the dopest mcs GURU forever!.!
Some of the most powerful music ever made.
Gang Starr May have the Best Catalogue in Hip Hop History....
LivingHipHop17 agree
A Tribe Called Quest, Jedi Mind Tricks and arguably MF DOOM have a better catalogue imo
Ronald Rockmann Nope
Huriel Romero Well, I know a lot of people will disagree but No More Mr. Guy was not fantastic, neither was Daily Operation and Step Into the Arena imo is overrated as well, yet still a great work. Atcq did not have any weak albums except for the Love Movement but I know that it is also personal preference
Ronald Rockmann Beats rhymes and life was a lil on the weak side too. Especially waiting so long after Midnight Marauders. I’ll give you No More Mr. Nice Guy, but the rest are classics. And their whole set up was pure, especially their live shows, very few DJs in 90s groups were cutting and scratching live like their records!!
RIP Guru
*2:06* PREMO USED THAT AGAIN ON 'SPEAK YA CLOUT' (FOR THE THIRD BEAT) OFF THE 'HARD TO EARN' ALBUM..
YES SIR!
Yo those Gang Starr mats are ill!

Gang Starr had a great run with their first 4 albums, and I think Preemo was at his creative best during that period...RIP GURU

Hahahaha, and just yesterday I was watching your DJ Premier beats video and was wishing there were more Daily Operation songs featured. I wasn't expecting a full on video but this is just as good!
GangStar B.Y.S. - maybe the most/best know track of the album!
🤯🔥👌🏾🙏🏾💾
I bought this album on tape in 1992. Ain’t No Shame in my Game was my favourite tune on it then and still is now. Love the intro with Jeru 🤌🏾 #RIPGuru, Salute to Preemo🫡👑.

No group ever will be able to match Gangstarrs samples.
This was definitely dope
Losing my mind, finding out the samples!!!! Always loved Guru for the jazz! YYYYO! 2 DEEP!!!!
Keep up the good work with the #waxonly series. You guys should do one with Pete Rock and CL Smooth Mecca and the soul brother album or MOP Firing Squad albums
The Ahmad Jamal - Misdemeanor sample on Soliloquy Of Chaos is sampled on It's Funky Enough by D.O.C
Rodney Williams that was a different "misdemeanor". That one was Foster Sylvers.
+docwonder hoffmann I prefer Foster Sylvers version better cuz that beat goes hard. Both versions are great though.
Vinrican, keep doin your thing bro. Much love and dopeness from the middle of nowhere aka Iowa.
Great! Thanks for this Vin much appreciated!
It's amazing how they find these hidden sounds and make them into hip hop classics.
CLASSIC. ....But can you please do Blackmoon ENTA DA STAGE????
